Impact Factors of Empathy in Mainland Chinese Youth.Qing Zhao, Qiaoyue Ren, Yuanmiao Sun, Li Wan & Li Hu - 2020 - Frontiers in Psychology 11:517074.
Empathy was investigated in 592 Mainland Chinese youth using the Interpersonal Reactivity Index. Participants’ empathy-related information covering demographic traits, emotional wellness, as well as academic and social problems were recorded. Results of Classification and Regression Tree (CART) analysis showed that emotional empathy, cognitive empathy, and empathy-related personal distress was impacted by inherited traits (e.g., sex), acquired traits (e.g., study major), and a combination of both aspects, respectively. Moreover, empathy was found to be higher in youth in a vulnerable social position (...)

Research on the Relationship between Business Cycle and Industrial Fluctuations in Northeast China Based on Complete Ensemble Empirical Mode Decomposition with Adaptive Noise.Yinan Zhou, Guofeng Gu & Qiushuang Ren - 2021 - Complexity 2021:1-16.
The Chinese economy has developed rapidly since the reform and opening up, but economic growth in Northeast China has declined dramatically after the 21st century. In this context, exploring the characteristics of economic and industrial fluctuations in the northeast of China and their relationship is beneficial to alleviating economic fluctuations and promoting stable economic development from the perspective of industrial development. The relationship between economic and industrial fluctuations in the three provinces of Northeast China was reexamined from the angle of (...)

A Decision-Making Model Using Machine Learning for Improving Dispatching Efficiency in Chengdu Shuangliu Airport.Yingmiao Qian, Shuhang Chen, Jianchang Li, Qinxin Ren, Jinfu Zhu, Ruijia Yuan & Hao Su - 2020 - Complexity 2020:1-16.
Due to the increasing number of people traveling by air, the passenger flow at the airport is increasing, and the problem of passenger drop-off and pickup has a huge impact on urban traffic. The difficulty of taking a taxi at the airport is still a hot issue in the society. Aiming at the problem of optimizing the allocation of taxi resource, this paper is based on the cost-benefit analysis method to determine the factors that affect the taxi driver’s decision-making. The (...)

When word frequency meets word order: factors determining multiply-constrained creative association.Wangbing Shen, Bernhard Hommel, Yuan Yuan, Qiping Ren, Meifeng Hua & Fang Lu - forthcoming - Thinking and Reasoning.
Creative association is inherent and essential to creativity and insight. Here we utilised a Chinese compound Remote Associates Task (cRAT) to identify the potential impact of word order (i.e., solution position hereinafter) and word frequency on creative association across two behavioural experiments. Experiment 1 identified the effects of (a) word order and word frequency on cRAT-induced association without considering the specific strategies used during solving such problems and (b) their interaction not only on performance in solving the cRAT, including solution (...)

Ethical Considerations for Volunteer Recruitment of Visual Prosthesis Trials.Yu Xia & Qiushi Ren - 2013 - Science and Engineering Ethics 19 (3):1099-1106.
With the development of visual prostheses research from the engineering phase to clinical trials, volunteer recruitment for the early visual prosthesis trials needs to be carefully considered. In this article, we mainly discuss several issues related to volunteer recruitment that had posed serious challenges to the visual prosthesis trials, such as low rates of participants, high expectations and underlying motivations to participate in the visual prosthesis trials as well as the importance of informed consent. When recruiting volunteers for visual prosthesis (...)

Differentiation of Parkinson’s disease and Parkinsonism predominant multiple system atrophy in early stage by morphometrics in susceptibility weighted imaging.Qingguo Ren, Yihua Wang, Xiaona Xia, Jianyuan Zhang, Cuiping Zhao & Xiangshui Meng - 2022 - Frontiers in Human Neuroscience 16.
Background and purposeWe previously established a radiological protocol to discriminate multiple system atrophy-parkinsonian subtype from Parkinson’s disease. However, we do not know if it can differentiate early stage disease. This study aimed to investigate whether the morphological and intensity changes in susceptibility weighted imaging of the lentiform nucleus could discriminate MSA-P from PD at early stages.MethodsWe retrospectively enrolled patients with MSA-P, PD and sex- and age-matched controls whose brain MRI included SWI, between January 2015 and July 2020 at the Movement (...)

    Delayed Spiking Neural P Systems with Scheduled Rules.Qianqian Ren & Xiyu Liu - 2021 - Complexity 2021:1-13.
Due to the inevitable delay phenomenon in the process of signal conversion and transmission, time delay is bound to occur between neurons. Therefore, it is necessary to introduce the concept of time delay into the membrane computing models. Spiking neural P systems, as an attractive type of neural-like P systems in membrane computing, are widely followed. Inspired by the phenomenon of time delay, in our work, a new variant of spiking neural P systems called delayed spiking neural P systems is (...)

Food justice in Vermont’s environmentally vulnerable communities.Qing Ren, Bindu Panikkar, Teresa Mares, Linda Berlin & Claire Golder - forthcoming - Agriculture and Human Values:1-15.
In this study, we examine cases of food insecurity and food justice issues in Vermont’s environmentally vulnerable communities. Using a structured door-to-door survey (n = 569), semi-structured interviews (n = 32), and focus groups (n = 5), we demonstrate that: (1) food insecurity in Vermont’s environmentally vulnerable communities is prominent and intersects with socioeconomic factors such as race and income, (2) food and social assistance programs need to be more accessible and address vicious cycles of multiple injustices, (3) an intersectional (...)

Evaluating Cortical Alterations in Patients With Chronic Back Pain Using Neuroimaging Techniques: Recent Advances and Perspectives.Li Zhang, Lili Zhou, Qiaoyue Ren, Tahmineh Mokhtari, Li Wan, Xiaolin Zhou & Li Hu - 2019 - Frontiers in Psychology 10.
Chronic back pain (CBP) is a leading cause of disability and results in considerable socio-economic burdens worldwide. Although CBP patients are commonly diagnosed and treated with a focus on the ‘end organ dysfunction’ (i.e., peripheral nerve injuries or diseases), the evaluation of CBP remains flawed and problematic with great challenges. Given that the peripheral nerve injuries or diseases are insufficient to define the etiology of CBP in some cases, the evaluation of alterations in the central nervous system becomes particularly necessary (...)
