Ce qu'il s'agit d'analyser, d'ausculter, c'est ce que Walter Benjamin, en 1929 déjà, décrivait comme un espace chargé à cent pour cent d'images. Autrement dit : cette visibilité saturée qui nous arrive de partout, nous entoure et nous traverse aujourd'hui. Un tel espace iconique est le produit d'une histoire : celle de la mise en circulation et de la marchandisation générale des images et des vues. Il fallait ébaucher sa généalogie, depuis les premiers ascenseurs ou escalators (ces travellings avant la (...) lettre) jusqu'aux techniques actuelles de l'oculométrie traquant les moindres saccades de nos yeux, en passant par le cinéma, grand chef d'orchestre des regards. Mais, sous-jacente à cette innervation du visible, il y a une économie propre aux images : ce qu'on tente d'appeler leur iconomie. Deleuze l'avait entrevue lorsqu'il écrivait, dans des pages inspirées par Marx : "l'argent est l'envers de toutes les images que le cinéma montre et monte à l'endroit". Une phrase que l'on n'entendra dans toute sa portée ontologique qu'à condition de se souvenir que "cinéma" veut aussi dire ici : "l'univers". C'est pourquoi, tout en se laissant guider par des séquences d'Hitchcock, de Bresson, d'Antonioni, de De Palma ou des Sopranos, ces pages voudraient frayer la voie qui conduit d'une iconomie restreinte à ce qu'on pourrait nommer, avec Bataille, une iconomie générale. Beyond the only text Jean-Luc Nancy explicitly dedicated to it (‘Rumoration’ in La Ville au loin), rumor lurks in the background — under the surface — of any discourse on community, or on being-with. Following closely Nancy’s thought process in ‘Rumoration’ (Nancy presents himself as walking, wandering in the city), this article interweaves fragments of a genealogy of rumor, from the ancient Greek logopoios to today’s ‘fake news’. But rumor is precisely what evades genealogy, so although it can be thought (...) of as an archimedium (pure mediality, as Maurice Blanchot suggests), its floating texture, made up of references to references, turns it into a kind of anarchistructure. This roundtable discussion is based on an online symposium – The Promise of Photography: Scale, Measure and Proportion in a Conflicted Visual Milieu – which took place on 17 September 2021. Since its inception, photography has promised to set things to scale, to grant them measure and proportion, a series of promises that have also entailed moments of irrationality or conflict that persist in and continue to shape the era of global networked digital imaging technologies. The symposium started out from (...) the diagnosis that, whilst photography continues to promise an ordered, proportionate and measured world in which things can be set to their proper scale, it also acts in many ways as an agent of dismeasure, disproportion and the unscalable. In light of this, the roundtable discussion presented here examines a range of different meanings that scale, measure and proportion have accrued in the photographic context and sets out to explore conceptual frameworks and research methodologies through which the current situation might be understood. We start with Plato’s cave myth and the dynamic between the interior and the exterior of the cave. Then we look at the relationship between the voice-echo and the exterior. The exterior is analyzed from a series of literary, musical, and cinematographic works. Conspiracy has probably become one of the key notions—or fantasies—of our times. Conspiracy, in the modern acceptation of the word, as in "conspiracy theory," has not only filled the mediasphere in which we live and breathe but it has also overshadowed—maybe we should say repressed—its ancient meaning. Surprisingly, this forgotten sense was revived on a poster lithographed by Andy Warhol in 1969 for a group exhibition in a Chicago gallery. Iconomie est un mot-valise dans lequel on entend d’une part l’icône ( eikôn, c’était l’un des noms grecs pour l’image) et d’autre part l’économie, cette oikonomia qui désignait la bonne gestion des échanges. Mais l’iconomie dont il sera question ici s’inscrit dans ce que, après et d’après Marx, il faut bien décrire comme un supermarché esthétique, en y repérant ce que Walter Benjamin nous a aidé à concevoir comme une sensibilité innervée.

L'écoute de la musique : on la pratique, on en parle beaucoup ; on la pense peu dans ses enjeux ou dans son histoire. Or bien au-delà des question de genres ou de styles musicaux, l'écoute a connu, au XXè siècle, des mutations radicales. L'écoute est-elle donc inscrite dans les Œuvres musicales? Qui est celui qui écoute? Est-il un sujet à l'écoute? Et si oui, comment est-il sujet de ou à cette activité étrangement passive qui l'affecte?

As the problem of debt grows more and more urgent in light of the central role it plays in neoliberal capitalism, scholars have analyzed debt using numerous approaches: historical analysis, legal arguments, psychoanalytic readings, claims for reparations in postcolonial debates, and more. Comment entendre le projet d'une écologie des images? Lorsque Susan Sontag l'ébauche pour la première fois à la fin de son ouvrage de 1977 sur la photographie, il résonne comme une exhortation à la vigilance face au débordement d'images qui menace d'engloutir notre capacité de voir. Plus récemment, derrière ce souci d'une économie de l'attention, une autre inquiétude a percé, concernant cette fois les retombées environnementales de la circulation et du stockage des images numériques. Cet essai tente d'explorer une troisième (...) voie : sous l'immédiateté du visible, il s'agit de laisser affleurer les temporalités dissonantes et les vitesses contrastées qui font la tension, le ton des images dans leur venue à l'apparaître.
