Contemporary virtue theorists, Michael Slote feels, have not provided sufficiently systematic accounts of virtue theory. As a consequence it is difficult to see how a virtue-theoretic approach might deal with topics such as self-other asymmetries and moral luck that have attracted attention in recent discussions of the major alternatives, deontology, utilitarianism, and intuitionism. In From Morality to Virtue Slote provides a systematic version of virtue theory specifically designed to respond to such topics.
