The aim of the study was to compare the acute effects of traditional resistance training and superset training on training duration, training volume and different perceptive measures. Twenty-nine resistance-trained participants performed a whole-body workout traditionally and as supersets of exercises targeting different muscle groups, in a randomized-crossover design. Each session was separated by 4–7 days, and consisted of eight exercises and three sets to failure. Training duration and number of repetitions lifted were recorded during the sessions. Rate of perceived exertion (...) for effort, rate of perceived exertion for discomfort, session displeasure/pleasure, and exercise enjoyment were measured 15 min after each session. Forty-eight hours after the final session participants reported which session they preferred. The superset session led to significantly higher values for RPE and RPD and tended to be higher for sPDF, i.e., more pleasurable, compared to the traditional session. There was no difference in EES. The traditional session led to significantly increased training volume and lasted 23 min longer than the superset session. Eighteen of the participants preferred the superset session, while 11 preferred the traditional session. In conclusion, performing a whole-body workout as a superset session was more time-efficient, but reduced the training volume and was perceived with greater exertion for effort and discomfort than a traditional workout. The aim of this study was to compare the acute effects of performing a lower body resistance training program in one long or two shorter sessions in 1 day on training volume and affective measures. Employing a randomized-crossover design, 23 resistance-trained women performed two training days consisting of one long or two short sessions separated by 3.5–5 h. Each training day was separated by 4-6 days and consisted of three sets to failure for six exercises. Training volume were recorded during (...) the sessions. Rating of perceived exertion for effort, rating of perceived exertion for discomfort, session displeasure/pleasure and exercise enjoyment were measured 10 min after each session. Participants also completed a readiness to train questionnaire, 24 h after each session, and which training protocol they preferred, 48 h after the last session. The long session led to higher RPE, RPD and sPDF compared to the short sessions. There was no difference in EES. The short sessions had 3% higher training volume than the long session. There were no differences in perceived readiness to train 24 h after the sessions. Twenty-two participants preferred the long session, while one preferred the short sessions. In conclusion, performing a longer, lower body, resistance training session led to greater perceptions of effort, discomfort and session pleasure than splitting the same program into two shorter sessions among resistance-trained women. However, two shorter sessions led to a greater training volume. (shrink)

Plato’s pronouncements about political freedom in the Laws have sparked renewed interest in the literature. The present paper takes a new angle on that vexed question. It focusses on Plato’s account of the birth of unlawful freedom, or ‘theatrocracy’, at the end of book 3. By studying the transition from moderate to excessive freedom, it wishes to shed light on what sets the two apart. The paper provides a causal analysis of the key passage, suggesting four compatible and complementary explanations (...) for the process it describes. The phenomenon of information conflict at the moment is an actual research object of many social and humanitarian disciplines. On the other hand, there is a lack of fundamental theoretical, primarily philosophical and methodological, research on this issue. This is expressed, inter alia, in the absence of philosophical and methodological grounds for isolating an information conflict from the totality of all objectively observed communications, i.e. demarcation of the phenomenon. The problem of finding criteria for an information conflict is of key (...) importance in the formation of the methodological foundations and categorical apparatus for studying this phenomenon. In this regard, the need to develop theoretical foundations for the demarcation of information conflict is an urgent research task. The object of this work is the phenomenon of information conflict as part of the communicative process. The subject of the research is the problem of demarcation of information conflicts from all aggregate communications. The purpose of the study is to describe and substantiate the existing object-oriented methodologies that allow for the demarcation procedure. The following tasks are adequately formulated for the purpose of the study: 1) describe the problem of demarcation; 2) identify the communicative grounds of the information conflict; 3) analyze and highlight the main approaches to the problem of demarcation of information conflict. The novelty of the work lies in the systematic description and structuring of methodological approaches to the problem of demarcation of information conflicts, as well as analysis of the boundaries of methodologies and approaches. In the course of the work, it was determined and proved that, relying solely on the theory of communication, it is impossible to adequately carry out the demarcation procedure; it is necessary to use additional, non-communicative demarcation criteria, which is due to the variety of demarcation approaches in various studies. In conclusion, conclusions are formulated about the limitations of object-oriented approaches for solving the problem of demarcation of information conflicts. (shrink)

Late antique political Platonism was not unoriginal in its thought. The paper takes as an example the Justinianic dialogue On Political Science (ca. 550), which creatively engages with Plato’s political works. It shows that the dialogue tries – and manages, as I argue – to combine two apparently inconsistent Platonic models: what I call the “divine” model, in which a philosopher-king endowed with divine knowledge rules unhindered by civic laws; and the “human” model, characterized by the rule of law. The (...) divine model comes mostly from Plato’s Republic and Statesman; the human one, from the Laws. On Political Science demonstrates that its (anonymous) author was acquainted with these three Platonic texts, in addition to other texts. That is philologically noteworthy, but also philosophically interesting: the dialogue manages to integrate the two models into a common framework. It puts forward an original political model, in which a philosopher-king, although endowed with divine knowledge, still has to be bound by civic laws because of his human frailty. The article concludes by discussing the polemical import the dialogue could have had in its Justinianic context. (shrink)

Der in Leipzig lehrende Philosoph und Theologe Christian August Crusius (1715-1775) ist bisher vorwiegend im Rahmen der Kant-Forschung berücksichtigt worden. Dabei war Crusius einer der ersten ernstzunehmenden Kritiker der Philosophie von Christian Wolff, der entscheidende Impulse von Christian Thomasius aufgriff, philosophisch vertiefte und bis in die zweite Hälfte des 18. Jahrhunderts wirkungsvoll tradierte. Der Sammelband nimmt die unterschiedlichen Aspekte des philosophischen und theologischen Schaffens von Crusius in den Blick und rekonstruiert die eigenständige Kontur eines Denkers, der einerseits auf allen Gebieten (...) der Philosophie tätig war und andererseits nach seiner Berufung zum Professor der Theologie ausschließlich an seinem theologischen OEuvre arbeitete. Auf der damit greifbaren Spannung zwischen Philosophie und Theologie liegt ein Hauptaugenmerk des interdisziplinären Sammelbandes. (shrink)

As discussões contemporâneas em teoria democrática estão marcadas pelo debate acerca da crise da representação. Importa a tal discussão ressignificar a tensão entre participação e representação, o que, a meu juízo, pode ser elaborado a partir da chave da deliberação. Ou seja, uma antiga tensão entre modelos representativos e participativos estaria superada. Restaria, portanto, redefinir os sentidos da representação, cuja análise, no campo da teoria democrática, foi dominada durante boa parte do século XX por teóricos schumpeterianos ou neoschumpeterianos. Tal orientação (...) intelectual tem como pressuposto fundamental interpretar o fórum à luz das categorias forjadas pelas ciências econômicas para examinar as interações no mercado. Grosso modo, a oposição fórum e mercado foi estruturada a partir da tensão entre os seguintes pares conceituais: argumentação pública vs. barganha, deliberação vs. agregação e, no limite, racionalidade comunicativa vs. instrumental. No texto a seguir, tenho por objetivo recuperar duas concepções articuladas pelos utilitaristas clássicos: os princípios da harmonia natural vs. identificação artificial dos interesses, cujas definições podem contribuir na compreensão de temas subjacentes àquele das discussões contemporâneas. Indicarei como o primeiro princípio apresenta-nos uma representação do arquétipo do social como mercado ; o ideal duma sociedade automática onde interesses concorrentes e conflitantes são harmonizados exclusivamente a partir de barganhas particulares cuja natureza revelar-se-á incompatível com uma concepção forte de representação política. Este artigo, redigido em tom ensaístico, trata da identidade infantil presente na obra Emílio ou Da Educação, de Jean-Jacques Rousseau. Nesse sentido, procura vislumbrar aquilo que existe por detrás da escrita do autor de Emílio, ou seja, o Eu de sua própria escritura. Utiliza ferramentas conceituais da filosofia de Friedrich Nietzsche, a fim de avaliar a constituição valorativa de tal obra no que concerne à infância. Uma infância que se estabelece como o polo condutor de toda a pedagogia moderna, pois (...) supera as narrativas anteriores como a Didática magna, de Comenius. Em relação à moral, a obra de Rousseau instaura um novo momento na civilização ocidental, aquele que faz do ser infantil o sujeito cidadão da modernidade. Portanto, desenvolvese no artigo a textura de uma máscara que encontra na linguagem a fórmula pulsante de sua expressão. (shrink)

O presente artigo trata do conceito schopenhauriano de Vontade. Nesse sentido, utiliza a obra O mundo como vontade e representação como uma espécie de mapa filosófico para abordar tal conceito. Interessa as transformações desse conceito na obra do jovem Nietzsche até se completar naquilo que ele chama de Vontade de Potência ( Wille zur Macht ). A partir disso, esse artigo lança o desafio de pensar uma Pedagogia da Vontade, inspirada no pensamento trágico de Nietzsche-Schopenhauer. Desse modo, observa as ressonâncias (...) das ideias, mas também a diferença de posturas entre os filósofos. Assim, situa o papel do educador nessa pedagogia, analisa a função do Estado e da cultura, procurando destacar a necessidade de se repensar o paradigma ético-estético na educação. . (shrink)

O presente artigo trata da filosofia do jovem Nietzsche e, de maneira específica, da extemporânea conhecido por Wagner em Bayreuth. Por meio dessa obra, percorre os conceitos de arte, vida e música na obra do filósofo, assim como a importância de Richard Wagner para os escritos da mocidade. Também utiliza a estética nietzschiana como pano de fundo para refletir acerca da Pedagogia do teatro trágico, da condição docente e da prática pedagógica.

Este ensaio trata da infância, de certa forma, das infâncias. E, por isso, pensa-acomo uma experiência estética do escritor. Um escritor que oscila entre a escrita e a leitura, a ficção e o real, o presente e o passado. Ou seja, mergulha na experiência formativa da infância a partir do texto das “Confissões”, reconstruindo fragmentos de subjetividade. Em tais fragmentos, as leituras da criança-aluno proporcionam o reencontro com o mundo-outro da imaginação. Nesse espaço, o exercício da escritura encarna-se no outro (...) da vontade, o corpo do escritor. Assim, o texto das “Confissões” é pensado por graus de intensidade,por afecções, de forma que a percepção da noção deinocência proporciona a compreensão daobra.This essay comes from childhood, in a sense, of childhoods. And, therefore,think it as an aesthetic experience of the writer. A writer who oscillatesbetween writing and reading fiction and reality, past and present. That is,delves into the formative experience of childhood from the text of"Confessions", reconstructing fragments of subjectivity. In such fragments, thereadings provide the student-child reunion with the other-world of theimagination. In this space, the exercise of writing is embodied in the other'swill, the body of the writer. The current work tests different theoretical models of belongingness and acceptance as fundamental needs for human motivation. In the current study, 372 participants were presented with 52 different items measuring five different theoretical models of belongingness and three different theoretical models of acceptance. In a first step, Confirmatory Factor Analysis failed to provide support for these eight theoretical models. In a second step, we therefore applied Exploratory Factor Analysis yielding three factors, which we interpreted as communicating: Belongingness, Emotion-Acceptance, and Social (...) Self-Representation. In a third step, these three factors were corroborated by a CFA. We discuss how these two factors of “belongingness,” “emotion-acceptance” respond to the literature on the need to belong and be accepted, and we reflect on how ‘social self-representation’ seems to be an alternative motivation for how we present ourselves to our social relations to fulfill our needs. IntroductionCouple violence (CV) affects many, and the consequences of those actions are grave, not only for the individual suffering at the hand of the perpetrator but also for the other persons in the family. Violence often happens among more than just the adults within one family. Even if CV has been thoroughly investigated in the general population very few studies have investigated this objective on a clinical sample, and none of these have included family violence.AimThis article identifies and describes the (...) group of clients that have issues of physical couple and family violence. It analyses a model that can help to discover physical violence and help therapists to assess what actions to take in therapy to prevent further physical violence.MethodologyDescriptive analysis, t-tests, and structural equation modeling (SEM) are used on a sample of clients receiving couple and family therapy (CFT) in Norway (N = 830). Family violence is modeled by the partner’s expectations toward each other, levels of anger, sexual satisfaction, and self-control.ResultsOne-in-five clients experienced physical CV in their current relationship and one-in-four experienced physical family violence. The group of clients who experienced CV differed from those without such experiences in having lower income, more prior experience with psychotherapy, more experience with alcohol abuse in childhood, and far more physical family violence in their current family. Christoph Meiners (1747–1810) zählte zu den wohl ungewöhnlichsten Mitgliedern der Göttinger Universität, der er von 1767 bis 1810 als Student und Professor angehörte. Dabei bestand das Ungewöhnliche seines Schaffens einerseits in dem schon früh zu verzeichnenden enormen Lektüreumfang, andererseits in der über 40 Jahre anhaltenden Publikationstätigkeit auf nahezu allen Feldern der wissenschaftlichen Philosophie und Historiografie, auf vielerlei Gebieten der zeitgenössischen Popularphilosophie sowie überaus erfolgreich als Reiseschriftsteller. Neben der aus seiner empiristischen Sicht grundlegenden Psychologie und Anthropologie (einschließlich einer umfangreichen Geschlechteranthropologie) bearbeitet (...) Meiners auch die Religions- und Geschichtsphilosophie, die politischen Philosophie und Ethik, die Ästhetik und Philosophiegeschichte. Historiografisch arbeitet er von der Antike über das Mittelalter bis in die unmittelbare Vergangenheit des 17. und 18. Jahrhunderts und dabei ebenso politik- wie kulturgeschichtlich. Die Popularphilosophie bedient er mit Reflexionen zur attischen Liebe ebenso wie zu Epikurs Charakter oder zu den Eleusinischen Geheimnissen. Heinrich Friedrich von Diez war eine der schillerndsten Figuren der deutschsprachigen Spätaufklärung. Als Philosoph und Publizist schon in frühen Jahren ein Freidenker mit großen Ambitionen und ungewöhnlichen Ansichten – so zu Spinoza oder der Emanzipation der Juden – avancierte er ab den 1780er Jahren zum preußischen Geschäftsträger in Konstantinopel. Hier entwickelte er eine rege politische Tätigkeit, begann aber auch mit orientalischen Studien und der Anlage einer umfangreichen Handschriften- und Büchersammlung. Als Berater Goethes bei dessen Arbeiten zum West-Östlichen Divan konnte er (...) noch im Alter seine umfangreichen Kenntnisse einflussreich vermitteln. Christian Grave zählte zu den prägenden Philosophen, Übersetzern und Publizisten der europäischen Aufklärung zwischen 1770 und 1800, und zwar sowohl innerhalb gewichtiger Teilbereiche der Fach- oder Schulphilosophie, wie der Moralphilosophie und Politik, als auch im Zusammenhang literarischer und populärphilosophischer Diskurse der sich entwickelnden und an Dynamik gewinnenden Öffentlichkeit. Grave nahm entscheidenden Einfluss auf wichtige Debatten, Kontroversen und Forschungsentwicklungen seiner Zeit; so entwickelte er Vorformen soziologischen Forschens und Argumentierens. Seine durch Friedrich II. angeregte Neuübersetzung und Kommentierung von Ciceros 'De officiis' war (...) nicht nur ein großer Verkaufserfolg, sondern hatte auch immensen Einfluss auf die Debatten zur Moralphilosophie und deren pädagogische Umsetzung im späten 18. Johann Gottlob Krüger’s Experimental psychology is commonly considered as one of the first empirical anthropologies in the German-speaking space. On closer examination, however, the foundations of his psychology appear to be both Wolffian rationalism and an epistemological empiricism of Lockean origins. His methodical conception of experimentalism, thus, expands Wolffian empirical psychology. On this basis, Krüger also supplies a quite precarious defence of materialism, and a view of experiments on humans that conflicts radically with present standards.
