Prayers for the departed: A white elephant in the hymnal of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania.Kim S. Groop & Nehemia Moshi - 2019 - HTS Theological Studies 75 (1):10.
The aim of this article is to study the general and contextual issues related to prayers for the departed with a focus on the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania (ELCT). In 2012, the ELCT published a new hymnal, which included a number of prayers for those mourning their deceased friends and relatives, as well as prayers for the deceased individuals themselves. As a result of considerable criticism, this hymnal was replaced by a new edition in 2017, in which the prayers (...)

Be-Ron yahad: studies in Jewish thought and theology in honor of Nehemia Polen.Nehemia Polen, Ariel Evan Mayse & Arthur Green (eds.) - 2019 - Boston: Academic Studies Press.
The present volume honors Rabbi Professor Nehemia Polen, one of those rare scholars whose religious teachings, spiritual writings, and academic scholarship have come together into a sustained project of interpretive imagination and engagement. Without compromising his intellectual integrity, his work brings forth the sacred from the mundane and expands the reach of Torah. He has shown us a path in which narrow scholarship is directly linked to a quest for ever-broadening depth and connectivity. The essays in this collection, from (...)

“I Desire Sanctity”: Sanctity and Separateness among Jewish Religious Zionists in Israel/Palestine.Nehemia Akiva Stern - 2015 - Anthropology of Consciousness 26 (2):156-169.
This article expands on anthropological understandings of affect and emotion to include certain theological and religious concepts that structure and give meaning to the daily lives of religious nationalists in areas of ethnic and political conflict. In doing so, it will ethnographically explore the relationship between theological notions of sanctity and the way those notions manifest themselves in the context of contemporary Jewish religious Zionism in both Israel and the Occupied West Bank. I will argue that analyzing mystical conceptions of (...)

    Mathematical models of foreign policy decision-making: Compensatory vs. noncompensatory.Alex Mintz, Nehemia Geva & Karl Derouen - 1994 - Synthese 100 (3):441 - 460.
There are presently two leading foreign policy decision-making paradigms in vogue. The first is based on the classical or rational model originally posited by von Neumann and Morgenstern to explain microeconomic decisions. The second is based on the cybernetic perspective whose groundwork was laid by Herbert Simon in his early research on bounded rationality. In this paper we introduce a third perspective — thepoliheuristic theory of decision-making — as an alternative to the rational actor and cybernetic paradigms in international relations. (...)

Transformational Leadership of Nehemia in Spirituality, Integrity and Visioner to the Contemporary Leaders.David Ming, Paulus Sentot Purwoko, Sri Wahyuni & Daniel Suharto - 2021 - European Journal of Theology and Philosophy 1 (6):12-18.
The book of Nehemiah provides a remarkable example of transformation leader motivated by, and acting for, God's ends: God's glory and the good of those served. It also provides an example of the use of godly means: the pursuit of spirituality in leadership, integrity and visioner focus upon achieving desirable results. The Transformational leaders in organization and communication is very important. The formulation of the problems that the author raises in this scientific paper are: First, is the character of (...) the most dominant character modeled by the contemporary leaders? Second, which background category most dominantly determines the transformational leadership based on the book of Nehemiah for the contemporary leaders. The writer uses a quantitative descriptive method with a correlational survey type explanation method. From the results of the data analysis: First: “The transformational leadership based on the book of Nehemiah for the contemporary leaders are in the sufficient category” in this research is proven. Second, “The dimension of Spirituality as the character of Nehemiah who is most dominant in the role modeled by the transformational leadership based on the Book of Nehemiah” is proven to be true. The Hasidic Moses: a chapter in the history of Jewish interpretation.Aryeh Wineman - 2019 - Eugene, Oregon: Pickwick Publications.
In The Hasidic Moses, Aryeh Wineman invites readers to join him on a journey through various eighteenth- and nineteenth-century Hasidic texts that interpret the life of Moses. Such texts read their own accent on spirituality and innerness along with their conceptions of community and spiritual leadership into the biblical account of Moses. Wineman reveals the ways in which historical Hasidic voices interpreted both the Exodus from Egypt and the scene of Revelation at Sinai as statements concerning what occurs constantly in (...)
