    Heart Robot was a public engagement project funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council.     In this article we discuss the question of whether a robotic carer could every really care. We argue that care is largely a matter of expressive and performative states rather than internal cognitive or emotional ones. We address the question of "authenticity" in caring and care work.
