The article has the aim to show that Kant’s “standard” conception of the highest good does not represent his last word about the problem. Kant moves from a conception of the highest good close connected with the metaphysical tradition and with the aim of a new, moral justification of traditional metahysical concepts such as God and immortality of the soul. This view does find many difficulties and oscillations in the Critiques, looking for different formulations of a moral “proof” for the (...) metaphysical concepts, grounded upon the need of justice and of a rational solution to the question of theodicy. The failure of this project is apparent with the essay on theodicy. In the last decade of Kant’s intellectual activity, the expression “highest good” occurs few times and the concept looses its systematic relevance, as shown by the last works up to the Opus postumum. This paper examines the terminological history and the conceptual ambiguity of 'optimism' in the philosophical discussion of the European Enlightenment. 'Optimism' is in fact a neologism of the XIIIth century which arises in the discussion on the concept of the best possible world and spreads rapidly from France to all the European countries. The concept of 'Optimism' has not a unique meaning. Several forms of optimism can be isolated in connection with the crisis of the philosophical theodicy, i.e. with the (...) discussion about the sense of the universe, the value of human life, the ethical disposition of human nature. In der zehnten Vorlesung der Grundzüge des gegenwärtigen Zeitalters schreibt Fichte: »Ueber nichts ist, ganz besonders in der Zeitepoche, die wir durchlebt, mehr geschrieben, gelesen und gesprochen worden, als über den Staat.« Diese Aussage Fichtes klingt autobiographisch, da der Philosoph seit den ersten Jahren seiner geistigen Tätigkeit den Problemen der Staatstheorie eine starke Aufmerksamkeit gewidmet hat. Das könnte leicht bewiesen werden, auch mit Hilfe der reichen Sekundärliteratur über dieses Gebiet der Fichteschen Philosophie: das Interesse für das politische Denken Fichtes war (...) aus verschiedenen Gründen auch in Zeiten lebhaft, als das Interesse für andere Gebiete der Transzendentalphilosophie gering war. Trotzdem scheint mir das Problem, welches ich hier kurz behandeln will, relativ vernachlässigt worden zu sein. (shrink)

Este artículo trata de la distinción entre órdenes y consejos en la filosofía práctica moderna como doctrina de deberes. La distinción juega un papel esencial en el pensamiento cristiano de Thomasius por su diferenciación entre las distintas esferas de la vida práctica, iustum, honestum y decorum, por ejemplo, las esferas de la ley , ética correcta e incoercible comportamiento externo —con significado ético—, incluyendo las buenas maneras . En la filosofía práctica de Kant, la distinción entre mandatos y consejos corresponde (...) a la distinción entre moralidad y prudencia como búsqueda de la felicidad. La vida moral está regida por la ley moral y por la idea del deber, que organiza en su propia perspectiva los otros aspectos de la actividad práctica y los diferentes tipos de deberes. Según pasó el tiempo, Kant estaba cada vez más interesado en la realización histórica de la moralidad como Moralisierung a través de la promoción de sus condiciones externas como la coexistencia pacífica a través de la ley jurídica y el desarrollo de las relaciones intersubjetivas a través de Zivilisierung y buenas maneras. La doctrina de los deberes de Kant y del siglo dieciocho no deja espacio para una moralidad más allá del deber como supererogation, un concepto que ha recibido una nueva atención en el debate contemporáneo moral y puede seguir siendo discutido en una perspectiva kantiana. The article deals with the relationship between morality and religion in Kant’s and Fichte’s thought. These two spheres are carefully distinguished by Kant: the knowledge of moral law as genuine conviction has a completely different status than religious faith, and the certainty of faith is just a “moral” certainty, which derives from a need. In the years of Jena Fichte stresses the immediate, active dimension of conviction, which characterizes also the conscience. In the writings of the dispute concerning atheism this (...) conviction of the conscience implies the absolute certainty of the faith: the voice of the conscience is identified with faith.Der Aufsatz behandelt die Beziehung zwischen Moralität und Religion im Denken Kants und Fichtes. Diese zwei Sphären werden von Kant mit Aufmerksamkeit unterschieden: das Wissen des Moralgesetzes als eigentliche Überzeugung hat einen ganz anderen Status als das Glauben der Religion, und die Gewissheit des Glaubens ist eine nur „moralische“ Gewissheit, die aus einem Bedürfnis entsteht. In der Jenaer Zeit betont Fichte die unmittelbare, tätige Seite der Überzeugung, die auch das Gewissen kennzeichnet. In den Schriften des Atheismusstreit bringt diese Überzeugung des Gewissens die absolute Gewissheit des Glaubens mit sich: die Stimme des Gewissens wird mit dem Glauben identifiziert. (shrink)
