The Quantum Mechanics of Minds and Worlds.Lon Becker - 2001 - Philosophical Review 110 (3):482.
There has been a lot of interest over the last fifteen years or so in no-collapse interpretations of quantum mechanics. The Bohm interpretation of quantum mechanics has received several thorough accounts, perhaps most notably by Bohm himself.

  6. The liar, context and logical form.Lon A. Berk - 2004 - Journal of Logic, Language and Information 13 (3):267-286.
This essay attempts to give substance to the claim that the liar''sparadox shows the truth predicate to be context sensitive. The aim ismodest: to provide an account of the truth predicate''s contextsensitivity (1) that derives from a more general understanding ofcontext sensitivity, (2) that does not depend upon a hierarchy ofpredicates and (3) that is able to address the liar''s paradox. Theconsequences of achieving this goal are not modest, though. Perhapssurprisingly, for reasons that will be discussed in the last section (...)

That Von Neumann did not believe in a physical collapse.Lon Becker - 2004 - British Journal for the Philosophy of Science 55 (1):121-135.
Many works intended to introduce interpretive issues in quantum mechanics present John von Neumann as having a view in which measurement produces a physical collapse in the system being measured. In this paper I argue that such a reading of von Neumann is inconsistent with what von Neumann actually says. I show that much of what he says makes no sense on the physical collapse reading, but falls into place if we assume he does not have such a view. I (...)

Why the liar does not matter.Lon Berk - 2003 - Journal of Philosophical Logic 32 (3):323-341.
This paper develops a classical model for our ordinary use of the truth predicate (1) that is able to address the liar's paradox and (2) that satisfies a very strong version of deflationism. Since the model is a classical in the sense that it has no truth value gaps, the model is able to address Tarski's indictment of our ordinary use of the predicate as inconsistent. Moreover, since it is able to address the liar's paradox, it responds to arguments against (...)

In Defense of Radical Empiricism: Essays and Lectures.Roderick Firth & John Troyer - 1998 - Rowman & Littlefield Publishers.
Roderick Firth's writings on epistemology amount to an exceptionally careful and cogent defense of an account of perceptual knowledge in the tradition Firth called 'radical empiricism.' This important book collects all of Firth's major works on epistemology; it also contains his only publication in ethics, the extremely influential essay on 'Ethical Absolutism and the Ideal Observer.' In addition, the book includes a number of important previously unpublished essays. Together, these writings constitute the most finished and compelling version of traditional empiricist (...)

Aquinas on the Inferiority of Woman.Francisco J. Romero Carrasquillo & Hilaire K. Troyer de Romero - 2013 - American Catholic Philosophical Quarterly 87 (4):685-710.
Aquinas has been accused of being a sexist for making the following four claims about woman: (1) woman is a deficient male; (2) woman was created only for the purpose of procreation; (3) woman is inferior to man; (4) woman must submit to man. Some scholars, notably Michael Nolan, have attempted to defend Thomas, and a few have even gone so far as calling him a feminist. The aim of this paper is to show that Aquinas did hold these four (...)

This volume includes the complete texts of two of John Stuart Mill's most important works, Utilitarianism and On Liberty, and selections from his other writings, including the complete text of his Remarks on Bentham's Philosophy. The selection from Mill's A System of Logic is of special relevance to the debate between those who read Mill as an Act-Utilitarian and those who interpret him as a Rule-Utilitarian. Also included are selections from the writings of Jeremy Bentham, founder of modern Utilitarianism and (...)

Maternal Socioeconomic Status Influences the Range of Expectations During Language Comprehension in Adulthood.Melissa Troyer & Arielle Borovsky - 2017 - Cognitive Science 41 (S6):1405-1433.
In infancy, maternal socioeconomic status is associated with real-time language processing skills, but whether or not this relationship carries into adulthood is unknown. We explored the effects of maternal SES in college-aged adults on eye-tracked, spoken sentence comprehension tasks using the visual world paradigm. When sentences ended in highly plausible, expected target nouns, higher SES was associated with a greater likelihood of considering alternative endings related to the action of the sentence. Moreover, for unexpected sentence endings, individuals from higher SES (...)

    Human and other natures.John Troyer - 2000 - Journal of Consciousness Studies 7 (1-2):1-2.
While I agree with the main theses put forward by Flack and de Waal, I am sceptical about whether we learn much about human morality by looking at the behaviour of other primates or our own evolutionary history. I am especially doubtful about attempts to use such data as a base for conclusions about ‘human nature'. More direct methods of studying human nature indicate that our genotype is compatible with a very wide range of behaviours, including all those required by (...)
