    Taehan Minʼguk ŭn todŏkchŏk inʼga.Kwang-gi Kim & Mi-suk Kim (eds.) - 2009 - Sŏul-si: Tong Asia.

Motor Area Activity During Mental Rotation Studied by Time-Resolved Single-Trial fMRI.Wolfgang Richter, Randy Summers, Seong-Gi Kim & Carola Tegeler - unknown
& The functional equivalence of overt movements and dynamic imagery is of fundamental importance in neuroscience. Here, we investigated the participation of the neocortical motor areas in a classic task of dynamic imagery, Shepard and Metzler's mental rotation task, by time-resolved single-trial functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI). The subjects performed the mental-rotation task 16 times, each time with different object pairs. Functional images were acquired for each pair separately, and the onset times and..

Typification in Society and Social Science: The Continuing Relevance of Schutz’s Social Phenomenology.Kwang-ki Kim & Tim Berard - 2009 - Human Studies 32 (3):263-289.
This paper examines Alfred Schutz’s insights on types and typification. Beginning with a brief overview of the history and meaning of typification in interpretive sociology, the paper further addresses both the ubiquity and the necessity of typification in social life and scientific method. Schutz’s contribution itself is lacking in empirical application and grounding, but examples are provided of ongoing empirical research which advances the understanding of types and typification. As is suggested by illustrations from scholarship in the social studies of (...)

    The biphasic behavior of incoherent feed‐forward loops in biomolecular regulatory networks.Dongsan Kim, Yung-Keun Kwon & Kwang-Hyun Cho - 2008 - Bioessays 30 (11-12):1204-1211.
An incoherent feed‐forward loop (FFL) is one of the most‐frequently observed motifs in biomolecular regulatory networks. It has been thought that the incoherent FFL is designed simply to induce a transient response shaped by a ‘fast activation and delayed inhibition’. We find that the dynamics of various incoherent FFLs can be further classified into two types: time‐dependent biphasic responses and dose‐dependent biphasic responses. Why do the structurally identical incoherent FFLs play such different dynamical roles? Through computational studies, we show that (...)

Interaction and Everyday Life: Phenomenological and Ethnomethodological Essays in Honor of George Psathas.Christina Papadimitriou, David Rehorick, Hwa Yol Jung, Lester Embree, Ilja Srubar, Martin Endress, Thomas Eberle, Jochen Dreher, Kwang-ki Kim, Thomas Wilson, Lenore Langsdorf, Kenneth Liberman, Tim Berard, Lorenza Mondada, Aug Nishizaka, Peter Weeks, Hisashi Nasu & Frances Chaput Waksler (eds.) - 2012 - Lexington Books.
Through a wide-ranging international collection of papers, this volume provides theoretical and historical insights into the development and application of phenomenological sociology and ethnomethodology and offers detailed examples of research into social phenomena from these standpoints. All the articles in this volume join together to testify to the enormous efficacy and potential of both phenomenological sociology and ethnomethodology.

Optimal Feedback Control of Cancer Chemotherapy Using Hamilton–Jacobi–Bellman Equation.Yong Dam Jeong, Kwang Su Kim, Yunil Roh, Sooyoun Choi, Shingo Iwami & Il Hyo Jung - 2022 - Complexity 2022:1-11.
Cancer chemotherapy has been the most common cancer treatment. However, it has side effects that kill both tumor cells and immune cells, which can ravage the patient’s immune system. Chemotherapy should be administered depending on the patient’s immunity as well as the level of cancer cells. Thus, we need to design an efficient treatment protocol. In this work, we study a feedback control problem of tumor-immune system to design an optimal chemotherapy strategy. For this, we first propose a mathematical model (...)

Dynamic network rewiring determines temporal regulatory functions in Drosophilamelanogaster development processes.Man-Sun Kim, Jeong-Rae Kim & Kwang-Hyun Cho - 2010 - Bioessays 32 (6):505-513.
Cover Photograph: Resolving developmental genetics in the fourth dimension: an illustration (by Kwang‐Hyun Cho himself) of the principle of dynamic network motifs in Drosophila development. Hitherto largely considered in terms of time‐invariant networks, drosophila development is viewed in the article by Man‐Sun Kim, Jeong‐Rae Kim, and Kwang‐Hyun Cho as the result of networks of gene interactions that change during the course of development. Using this paradigm, pivotal developmental events can be correlated with particular changes from one constellation of (...)

Dynamic network rewiring determines temporal regulatory functions in Drosophila_ _melanogaster development processes.Man-Sun Kim, Jeong-Rae Kim & Kwang-Hyun Cho - 2010 - Bioessays 32 (6):505-513.
The identification of network motifs has been widely considered as a significant step towards uncovering the design principles of biomolecular regulatory networks. To date, time‐invariant networks have been considered. However, such approaches cannot be used to reveal time‐specific biological traits due to the dynamic nature of biological systems, and hence may not be applicable to development, where temporal regulation of gene expression is an indispensable characteristic. We propose a concept of a “temporal sequence of network motifs”, a sequence of network (...)

Coupled positive and negative feedback circuits form an essential building block of cellular signaling pathways.Dongsan Kim, Yung-Keun Kwon & Kwang-Hyun Cho - 2007 - Bioessays 29 (1):85-90.
Cellular circuits have positive and negative feedback loops that allow them to respond properly to noisy external stimuli. It is intriguing that such feedback loops exist in many cases in a particular form of coupled positive and negative feedback loops with different time delays. As a result of our mathematical simulations and investigations into various experimental evidences, we found that such coupled feedback circuits can rapidly turn on a reaction to a proper stimulus, robustly maintain its status, and immediately turn (...)
