Advocating for Abolition in Health Law: A Theory and Praxis to Liberate Black Incarcerated Women.Hala Baradi - 2023 - Journal of Law, Medicine and Ethics 51 (1):196-207.
The prison-industrial complex has historically operated as a mechanism for social control generally and as a tool to restrict women’s reproductive capacities specifically. Reproductive justice is a domain within the practice of health law. However, health law as currently practiced is ill-equipped to understand how the carceral state functions as a structural determinant of health or how legacies of oppression have facilitated the abridgment of incarcerated women’s reproductive capacities.

Ask: building consent culture.Kitty Stryker - 2017 - Portland, OR: Thorntree Press.
Have you ever heard the phrase "It's easier to ask forgiveness than permission?" Violating consent isn't limited to sexual relationships, and our discussions around consent shouldn't be, either. To resist rape culture, we need a consent culture--and one that is more than just reactionary. Left confined to intimate spaces, consent will atrophy as theory that is never put into practice. The multi-layered power disparities of today's world require a response sensitive to a wide range of lived experiences. In Ask, Kitty (...)

Balancing Good Intentions: Protecting the Privacy of Electronic Health Information.Kitty McClanahan - 2008 - Bulletin of Science, Technology and Society 28 (1):69-79.
Electronic information is a vital but complex component in the modern health care system, fueling ongoing efforts to develop a universal electronic health record infrastructure. This innovation creates a substantial tension between two desirable values: the increased quality and utility of patient medical records and the protection of the privacy of the information they contain. This article discusses related U.S. legislation, policy, and law—including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996. This article offers an inclusive, equilibrium model to (...)

Safe Spaces for Refugee Women: Towards Cultivating Feminist Solidarity.Hala Nasr - 2022 - Feminist Review 131 (1):10-25.
Over the last decade, growing concern over Syrian refugee women and girl’s gendered displacement experiences, including gender-based violence, has led to the proliferation of women and girl safe space interventions across neighbouring countries affected by the Syrian conflict. Though diverse in their design and implementation, some of these safe spaces aim to mobilise aspirations for feminist solidarity and collective action, where women recognise their collective power and work together to transform their gendered social conditions. Drawing on feminist ethnographic research in (...)

Appeals to authority in journalism.Alexandra Kitty - 2003 - Critical Review: A Journal of Politics and Society 15 (3-4):347-357.
More than most information‐gathering professions, journalism depends on authorities as legitimate sources of information. Ironically, the journalistic appeal to authority is used to bolster the credibility of a reporter's story, even though the substitution of authoritative pronouncements for first‐hand investigation makes reporters vulnerable to hoaxes and bias.

Fault lines of modernity: the fractures and repairs of religion, ethics, and literature.Kitty Millet & Dorothy Matilda Figueira (eds.) - 2019 - New York: Bloomsbury Academic.
This state of the art collection offers fresh perspectives on why intersections between literature, religion, and ethics can address the fault lines of modernity and are not necessarily the cause of modernity's 'faults.' From a diverse cohort of scholars from around the world, with appointments in comparative literature and other disciplines, the essays suggest that the imagined hegemony of a Judeo-Christian Western project is neither exclusively true nor productive. However, the essays also suggest that elements of the Western religious traditions (...)

Projective geometries of algebraically closed fields of characteristic zero.Kitty L. Holland - 1993 - Annals of Pure and Applied Logic 60 (3):237-260.
Fix an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero and let G be its geometry of transcendence degree one extensions. Let X be a set of points of G. We show that X extends to a projective subgeometry of G exactly if the partial derivatives of the polynomials inducing dependence on its elements satisfy certain separability conditions. This analysis produces a concrete representation of the coordinatizing fields of maximal projective subgeometries of G.

Verletzende Worte: Die Grammatik sprachlicher Missachtung.Steffen Kitty Herrmann, Sybille Krämer & Hannes Kuch (eds.) - 2007 - transcript Verlag.

Commutative basic algebras and non-associative fuzzy logics.Michal Botur & Radomír Halaš - 2009 - Archive for Mathematical Logic 48 (3-4):243-255.
Several investigations in probability theory and the theory of expert systems show that it is important to search for some reasonable generalizations of fuzzy logics (e.g. Łukasiewicz, Gödel or product logic) having a non-associative conjunction. In the present paper, we offer a non-associative fuzzy logic L CBA having as an equivalent algebraic semantics lattices with section antitone involutions satisfying the contraposition law, so-called commutative basic algebras. The class (variety) CBA of commutative basic algebras was intensively studied in several recent papers (...)

The role of the body in descriptions of emotions.Maïa Ponsonnet & Kitty-Jean Laginha - 2020 - Pragmatics and Cognition 27 (1):20-82.
This article presents the first systematic typological study of emotional expressions involving body parts at the scale of a continent, namely the Australian continent. The role of body parts in figurative descriptions of emotions, a well-established phenomenon across the world, is known to be widespread in Australian languages. This article presents a typology of body-based emotional expressions across a balanced sample of 67 languages, where we found that at least 30 distinct body parts occur in emotional expressions. The belly is (...)

Mix & stir: new outlooks on contemporary art from global perspectives.Helen Westgeest, Kitty Zijlmans & Thomas J. Berghuis (eds.) - 2021 - Amsterdam: Valiz.
Mix & Stir', this book's aim is an endeavour to understand art as being a panhuman phenomenon of all times and cultures; to steer away from the persistent Eurocentric/Western-centric viewpoint towards a transcultural and transnational interconnected model of exchange and processes of interculturalization. Mix & Stir wants to expand this landscape by bringing to the fore new, recalcitrant, queer, idiosyncratic practices and discourses, theories and topics, methods and concerns that open up ways to approach art from a global perspective. Analogous (...)

    Constructing ω-stable structures: Rank 2 fields.John T. Baldwin & Kitty Holland - 2000 - Journal of Symbolic Logic 65 (1):371-391.
We provide a general framework for studying the expansion of strongly minimal sets by adding additional relations in the style of Hrushovski. We introduce a notion of separation of quantifiers which is a condition on the class of expansions of finitely generated models for the expanded theory to have a countable ω-saturated model. We apply these results to construct for each sufficiently fast growing finite-to-one function μ from 'primitive extensions' to the natural numbers a theory T μ of an expansion (...)

Exploring Perceptions of Advertising Ethics: An Informant-Derived Approach.Haseeb Ahmed Shabbir, Hala Maalouf, Michele Griessmair, Nazan Colmekcioglu & Pervaiz Akhtar - 2019 - Journal of Business Ethics 159 (3):727-744.
Whilst considerable research exists on determining consumer responses to pre-determined statements within numerous ad ethics contexts, our understanding of consumer thoughts regarding ad ethics in general remains lacking. The purpose of our study therefore is to provide a first illustration of an emic and informant-based derivation of perceived ad ethics. The authors use multi-dimensional scaling as an approach enabling the emic, or locally derived deconstruction of perceived ad ethics. Given recent calls to develop our understanding of ad ethics in different (...)

The finite rank bicolored fields of Baldwin and Holland 371; Notre Dame J. Formal Logic , to appear) are model complete. On the political aspects of Agnes Heller’s ethical thinking.Vlastimil Hála - 2020 - Human Affairs 30 (1):60-71.
The author describes Heller’s concept of ethics as a “quasi-sphere” intersecting with various fields relating to human relationships. Special attention is paid to the axiological aspects of her concept of ethics and the relationship between virtues and responsibility. The author also seeks to show how Heller integrated a traditional philosophical question—the relationship between “is” and “ought to be”—into her concept of “radical philosophy” at an earlier stage in the development of her philosophy. She initially considered the relationship between “is” and (...)

Considerable evidence supports that preschool education is a milestone stage for children. Nonetheless, systematic preschool gifted education programs rarely exist in public elementary schools. The current study explored the perceptions of 16 preschool teachers from seven public schools in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates regarding their views about various components of gifted education for preschool children. Qualitative analyses, using the inductive data analysis method, revealed several themes such as the concept and identification of giftedness, characteristics of gifted preschoolers, preschoolers’ problem-solving (...)
