    Cardinal sequences.István Juhász & William Weiss - 2006 - Annals of Pure and Applied Logic 144 (1-3):96-106.
In this article we characterize all those sequences of cardinals of length ω1 which are cardinal sequences of some compact scattered space . This extends the similar results from [R. La Grange, Concerning the cardinal sequence of a Boolean algebra, Algebra Universalis, 7 307–313] for such sequences of countable length. For ordinals between ω1 and ω2 we can only give a sufficient condition for a sequence of that length to be a cardinal sequence of a compact scattered space. This condition (...)

Discrete subspaces of countably tight compacta.I. Juhász & Z. Szentmiklóssy - 2006 - Annals of Pure and Applied Logic 140 (1):72-74.
Our main result is that the following cardinal arithmetic assumption, which is a slight weakening of GCH, “2κ is a finite successor of κ for every cardinal κ”, implies that in any countably tight compactum X there is a discrete subspace D with . This yields a confirmation of Alan Dow’s Conjecture 2 from [A. Dow, Closures of discrete sets in compact spaces, Studia Math. Sci. Hung. 42 227–234].

    Erasmus’ Apophthegmata in Henrician England.Ágnes Juhász-Ormsby - 2017 - Erasmus Studies 37 (1):45-67.
_ Source: _Volume 37, Issue 1, pp 45 - 67 The sudden surge in English translations of Erasmus’ _Apophthegmata_ during the later years of Henry VIII ’s reign can be partly attributed to the gradual introduction of the new standards set by the humanist educational agenda and partly to the profound political and religious changes brought about by the English Reformation that was codified in the Act of Supremacy in 1534. Richard Taverner’s _The garden of wysdom_ and _The second booke (...)

The Hill equation and the origin of quantitative pharmacology.Arpad Tosaki, Bela Juhasz, Balazs Varga, Adam Kemeny-Beke, Judit Zsuga & Rudolf Gesztelyi - 2012 - Archive for History of Exact Sciences 66 (4):427-438.
This review addresses the 100-year-old Hill equation (published in January 22, 1910), the first formula relating the result of a reversible association (e.g., concentration of a complex, magnitude of an effect) to the variable concentration of one of the associating substances (the other being present in a constant and relatively low concentration). In addition, the Hill equation was the first (and is the simplest) quantitative receptor model in pharmacology. Although the Hill equation is an empirical receptor model (its parameters have (...)

Contempler l'infini.

The Immediacy of Mystical Experience in the European Tradition.Anikó Daróczi, Enikő Sepsi & Miklós Vassányi (eds.) - 2017 - Cham: Imprint: Springer.
This volume examines mystical experiences as portrayed in various ways by "authors" such as philosophers, mystics, psychoanalysts, writers, and peasant women. These "mystical authors" have, throughout the ages, attempted to convey the unsayable through writings, paintings, or oral stories. The immediate experience of God is the primary source and ultimate goal of these mystical expressions. This experience is essentially ineffable, yet all mystical authors, either consciously or unconsciously, feel an urge to convey what they have undergone in the moments of (...)

A Deep Evolutionary Approach to Bioinspired Classifier Optimisation for Brain-Machine Interaction.Jordan J. Bird, Diego R. Faria, Luis J. Manso, Anikó Ekárt & Christopher D. Buckingham - 2019 - Complexity 2019:1-14.
This study suggests a new approach to EEG data classification by exploring the idea of using evolutionary computation to both select useful discriminative EEG features and optimise the topology of Artificial Neural Networks. An evolutionary algorithm is applied to select the most informative features from an initial set of 2550 EEG statistical features. Optimisation of a Multilayer Perceptron is performed with an evolutionary approach before classification to estimate the best hyperparameters of the network. Deep learning and tuning with Long Short-Term (...)

Circadian Variation of Migraine Attack Onset Affects fMRI Brain Response to Fearful Faces.Daniel Baksa, Edina Szabo, Natalia Kocsel, Attila Galambos, Andrea Edit Edes, Dorottya Pap, Terezia Zsombok, Mate Magyar, Kinga Gecse, Dora Dobos, Lajos Rudolf Kozak, Gyorgy Bagdy, Gyongyi Kokonyei & Gabriella Juhasz - 2022 - Frontiers in Human Neuroscience 16:842426.
BackgroundPrevious studies suggested a circadian variation of migraine attack onset, although, with contradictory results – possibly because of the existence of migraine subgroups with different circadian attack onset peaks. Migraine is primarily a brain disorder, and if the diversity in daily distribution of migraine attack onset reflects an important aspect of migraine, it may also associate with interictal brain activity. Our goal was to assess brain activity differences in episodic migraine subgroups who were classified according to their typical circadian peak (...)

The needs of the many do not outweigh the needs of the few: The limits of individual sacrifice across diverse cultures.Mark Sheskin, Coralie Chevallier, Kuniko Adachi, Renatas Berniūnas, Thomas Castelain, Martin Hulín, Hillary Lenfesty, Denis Regnier, Anikó Sebestény & Nicolas Baumard - 2018 - Journal of Cognition and Culture 18 (1-2):205-223.
A long tradition of research in WEIRD (Western, Educated, Industrialized, Rich, Democratic) countries has investigated how people weigh individual welfare versus group welfare in their moral judgments. Relatively less research has investigated the generalizability of results across non-WEIRD populations. In the current study, we ask participants across nine diverse cultures (Bali, Costa Rica, France, Guatemala, Japan, Madagascar, Mongolia, Serbia, and the USA) to make a series of moral judgments regarding both third-party sacrifice for group welfare and first-person sacrifice for group (...)

Ziel (...)
