Process Thought, Education, and the Environmental Crisis: A Tribute to John B. Cobb, Jr.John Becker & Wm Andrew Schwartz - 2022 - Buddhist-Christian Studies 42 (1):53-67.
Abstractabstract:John B. Cobb, Jr., is one of the most influential Christian theologians of the past fifty years. Having written from an interdisciplinary lens, engaging economics, education, biology, and beyond, Cobb is not the typical theologian. One of Cobb's earliest concerns is the environmental crisis, having written the first single-author book on the subject in 1972. Cobb recognized early on that the environmental crisis was systemic, pervading modernity in both thought and culture, and sought to approach (...)

    Memory in a Whiteheadian perspective.Jr John B. Cobb - 2008 - World Futures 64 (2):116 – 124.
Whitehead does not provide us with a systematic account of the various types of experience to which the word “memory” is applied. Nevertheless, he does provide us with a way of understanding the world, and living creatures who inhabit it, that places the discussion in a different context from the usual one: the diverse features of human experience that we call memory are developed forms of basic patterns of relationship that characterize all actual entities. I will first review the relevant (...)

    Natural Causality and Divine Action.John B. Cobb Jr - 1973 - Idealistic Studies 3 (3):207-222.
The idea of God’s action in history was prominent in the Biblical theology of the past generation. This theology was generally opposed to philosophic explication of its doctrine of God, and consequently it is difficult to say just what it meant by divine action. In any case, that movement faded and, with it, talk of God’s acts.

Because so little work in most fields of thought has been done from a Whiteheadian perspective, bringing that perspective to bear often highlights what has been little noticed. This essay seeks to contribute to the understanding of the financial crisis and to propose responses from a Whiteheadian perspective. At the same time it reflects explicitly on the difference that this perspective makes as well as the continuing dependence on the work of those who have approached matters from other perspectives.

A Christian natural theology, based on the thought of Alfred North Whitehead.John B. Cobb - 1965 - Philadelphia,: Westminster Press.
  43. A Christian natural theology.John B. Cobb - 1966 - London,: Lutterworth P..
When the first edition ofA Christian Natural Theologyappeared in 1965, it was a groundbreaking work that incorporated Alfred North Whitehead's metaphysical philosophy as a framework for developing a Christian natural theology. The work was so significant it helped to launch process theology as a leading alternative to neo-orthodox theology and has since become a classic in the literature of process theology. This new edition by one of America's preeminent theologians is an essential work for all those interested in process theology.

Whitehead had a place for God in his comprehensive cosmological vision, and his theism has long attracted interest from some Christian theologians. But Whitehead's ideas have much wider use. Some Buddhists have found help in articulating their nontheistic vision and relating it to the current world of thought and action. In this book religious writers in seven different traditions articulate how they can benefit from Whitehead's work. So this volume demonstrates that various features of his thought can contribute to many (...)

Panentheism and the Conception of the Ultimate in John B. Cobb’s Process Philosophy.Oliver Li - 2019 - Sophia 58 (4):631-643.
The concept of ultimate reality has an important role in the metaphysics of religious pluralism. John B. Cobb—a process philosopher in the Whiteheadian tradition—has suggested not only two ultimates, like other process philosophers, but three ultimates: God, creativity, and the cosmos. Based on this, I argue, firstly, that Cobb’s tripartite conception of the ultimate offers greater conceptual resources for inter-religious dialog than, for example, John Hick’s conception of ultimate reality or ‘the Real’. In support of this (...)
