If we read Ludwig Wittgenstein's works and take his scientific formation in mathematical logic into account, it comes as a surprise that he ever developed a particular interest in anthropological questions. The following questions immediately arise: What role does anthropology play in Wittgenstein's work? How do problems concerning mankind as a whole relate to his philosophy? How does his approach relate to philosophical anthropology? How does he view classical issues about Man's affairs and actions? The aim of this book is (...) to investigate the anthropological questions that Wittgenstein raised in his works. The answers to the questions raised in this introduction may be found on the intersection between forms of life and radical translation from another culture into ours. En la ’metateoría de las teorías científicas’ se exhibe una especie de catálogo de los problemas más destacados de la filosofía de la ciencia. La metateoría científica analiza la teoría de las formas con las que opera el lenguaje científico. Así pues, es una teoría descriptiva de determinadas estructuras científicas. En esta monografía analizamos la metateoría de la ciencia, el papel que juegan los condicionales contrafácticos en las teorías científicas, los problemas vinculados a los términos teóricos, el análisis de la (...) incomensurabilidad y los cambios estructurales que aparecen con los cambios teóricos. Das problem der welt, nach der auffassung der moglichen welt-semantik, ist nur implizit vorhanden. bis heute gibt es nur eine allgemeine auffassung der welt im einverstandnis mit der intuition der moglichen welten. die fragestellung ist: wie kann ein gegenstand identifiziert werden und warum kann von dessen existenz gesprochen werden? der logisch-semantische streit geht quer durch das verfahren der universellen "instantijerung" und der existenziellen generalisation. das problem der eigenschaften in der kausalen namenserklarung wird durch die bestimmung des kunftigen, durch vergangenes, also (...) durch die these der starrheit gelost. unserer meinung nach, ist hier das verfahren der "moglichen welten" eine art kaleidoskop der referenz der eigennament. dies fuhrt dazu, dass entitaten sich verveilfachen und in verschiedenen "welten" alle gleich erscheinen. daruber hinaus mussen eigenschaften bei der beschreibung eines objekts wesentlich sein. dadurch werden grade der diskriminalitat eingefuhrt, die nicht akzeptierbar sind. Ludwig Wittgenstein’s writings inspired contemporary philosophical thinking and advanced many issues that had been addressed by traditional philosophy. The questions raised by the Viennese philosopher initiated debates on a reconsideration of philosophical terminology. This is especially true for a term that has generated at least three significant controversies since its creation and will probably generate more disputes in the following years. It is the expression “form(s) of life” which translates into German as “Lebensform(en)” and “Form des Lebens”. For some time now we have noticed an increasing scepticism regarding the effectiveness of democracy, and its ability to represent citizens through elections. Elections are the central mechanism of political decision taking. However, there is a clear tendency to exploit electo­ rial processes by populist politicians. The ancient ideal of paideia was to educate citizens by following a civic program. Its aim was to enable the citizen to exercise the civil rights and duties. Since the 1970s, however, we had observed (...) two contrasting tendencies: a growth of individualization, and a ecrease of the level of civic education. In the 1990s populist politi­ cal parties entered the political scene of European democracies, some of which have man­ aged to establish a mob rule or ochlocracy (ὀχλοκρατία). Since then, ochlocratic parties have systematically intended to win the votes of politically less educated citizens by offering them a simplified political discourse. In fact, these parties have managed to neutralize the two­party system in many European countries. Thus they managed to block majority­based governments, forcing parties to form coalitions with ideologically opposing smaller parties. This has created a situation in which the “punishment vote” becomes the mean to gain the votes of undecided people who may be characterized as rebels without political culture. (shrink)

La teoría semántica de la verdad se ha vuelto a reconciliar con la lógica, con el gusto por plantear cuestiones vinculadas al concepto semántico de verdad mediante estructuras lógicas. Y en la teoría de la verdad vuelven a plantearse los temas semánticos desde una vertiente formal. La teoría de la verdad propuesta recientemente ha reencontrado las estructuras formales, los temas vinculados a la lógica, los vínculos (...) entre las estructuras formales y las cuestiones semánticas, etc., y lo hace en coincidencia, acentúo, con un análisis formal paralelo que se viene proponiendo desde hace algún tiempo. The aim of this article is to reconstruct the contributions that Wittgenstein made to the field of aesthetics. The focus of interest lies on the theory of sensory perception. This theory is characterized as a program of “minimal visibilia” and will be analyzed by employing the phenomenological method. Three problems are addressed in the context of the visual space, such as blurredness, indistinctness and sensory impressions. A distinction between the visual space and the Euclidean space can only be made by (...) comparing their respective typical structures. We will particularly analyze the relation that exists between the perceiving human being on the one hand and the visual space on the other hand. In order to get a deeper insight into this problem the visual space shall be compared to a two-dimensional picture. Moreover the role and function of the colours have to be clarified to establish a “minimum visibilia”. (shrink)

En este artículo se proporciona una pormenorizada lectura del pasaje del Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus que Wittgenstein dedica al análisis de la clase de oraciones que expresan una actitud epistémica de un sujeto hacia una proposición (de 5.54 a 5.5423). Se argumenta que en dicho pasaje Wittgenstein pretende mostrar que el valor de verdad no depende de las partes constituyentes sino del todo. Se analiza cada una de las partes de las que consta un enunciado de creencia. Wittgenstein demuestra que el valor (...) de verdad del enunciado de creencia no depende del valor de verdad del enunciado insertado en la oración subordinada. Tampoco depende del sujeto lingüístico. El valor de verdad recae sobre el complejo y se debe de entender como tal. (shrink)

Certain events are identified as intentional actions when they are considered as being rationalized by reasons. The linguistic description of such events enables us to reveal the structure of intention. The mental and the linguistic constitute irreducible ways of understanding events. Among the topics discussed are intentionality, actions, the linguistic (...) form to talk about intentionality and actions, Brentano’s view of intentionality, the phenomenological approach to intention and Wittgenstein's proposals. Cílem tohoto článku je rekonstruovat Wittgensteinův příspěvek na poli estetiky. Ohnisko zájmu spočívá v teorii smyslového vnímání. Tuto teorii lze charakterizovat jako program "minimálně viděného"; bude analyzována fenomenologickou metodou. V souvislosti se zorným prostorem zkoumám tři problémy: rozostřenost, neurčitost a smyslový dojem. Rozdíl mezi zorným prostorem a euklidovským prostorem může být vymezen srovnáním jejich typických struktur. Budu analyzovat vztah mezi vnímáním lidských bytostí na jedné straně a jejich zorným prostorem na straně druhé. Zorný prostor lze srovnat se dvoudimenzionálním obrazem. Dále (...) je třeba vyjasnit roli barev v programu "minimálně viděného". (shrink)

Undoubtedly, Ludwig Wittgenstein (1889-1951) is considered one of the most famous philosophers. In contrast to other 20 th century philosophers, who arranged to have their complete works published while still alive or after their deaths, Wittgenstein’s works are still incompletely published with only part of them being in print. He wasn’t concerned with the issue of notoriety nor was he concerned with fame. However, his lectures and publications would very early be recognized by his Spanish colleagues and were reviewed as (...) early as in 1933. This volume is designed to present new ideas and approaches to analysis to open up a new perspective in the reception of Wittgenstein’s works. This volume of essays has a unity and bears throughout the imprint of Wittgenstein’s powerful and original mind. The authors have published most of their contributions in international journals. Following the bloodshed of 11th March 2004 in Madrid, a number of questions have arisen, questions that, according to our continental understanding of democracy, require prompt answers. A number of these questions have not even been asked yet by the intellectuals of Europe in general and those of Spain in particular. How can a democracy fight terrorism? This is deliberately referred to as the continental-European tradition in contrast to the Anglo-Saxon tradition. The latter has, yet again, embraced Hobbes’s old question (...) and pleads for security at the expense of freedom in all uncertain cases. 11th March in Madrid demonstrated that the terrorist scene has been organising its finances through the trafficking of drugs and arms. Can the systems of democracy with their policies that rest on careful management measures control this black market at all? All these questions are linked closely to the good old question of the limits of freedom. How do we define freedom in a society that must arm itself for the fight against all forms of arbitrary acts of terror, authoritarian rules and various forms of fanaticism? (shrink)

To what extent can we doubt certainties? How are certainties expressed in words? Which language games convey certainty? To answer these questions we have to recall the method Wittgenstein used in his investigations. When we look at language games and forms of life as inseparable phenomena, do forms of life then provide any certainty? On the other hand, do we automatically relapse into relativism once we doubt certainties? Which formal structures underlie certainty and doubt? The book is intended to answer (...) these questions. Depuis les attentats du 11 mars 2004 de Madrid se sont imposées quelques questions qui, d’après notre appréhension continentale de la démocratie, exigent des réponses urgentes. Certaines questions n’ont pas encore été formulées par les intellectuels en Europe et en Espagne. Comment peut-on combattre contre le terrorisme dans une démocratie? Celui-ci est intentionnellement désigné sous le nom de tradition continentale européenne, en opposition à la tradition anglo-saxonne. Cette dernière a de nouveau formulé la question de Hobbes et dans un cas (...) douteux plaide pour la sécurité au détriment de la liberté. Les événements du 11 mars ont prouvé que la scène terroriste est financée par le trafic d’armes et de drogue. Les systèmes démocratiques dont la politique repose sur des mesures d’économie peuvent-ils contrôler le marché noir? Toutes ces questions se rapportent à la vieille question notoire des limites de la liberté. Comment définir la liberté dans une société qui doit se pourvoir d’armes pour lutter contre les actes terroristes arbitraires, contre toute forme de gouvernement autoritaire et contre les différents aspects du fanatisme?
