Undoubtedly, Ludwig Wittgenstein (1889-1951) is considered one of the most famous philosophers. In contrast to other 20 th century philosophers, who arranged to have their complete works published while still alive or after their deaths, Wittgenstein’s works are still incompletely published with only part of them being in print. He wasn’t concerned with the issue of notoriety nor was he concerned with fame. However, his lectures and publications would very early be recognized by his Spanish colleagues and were reviewed as (...) early as in 1933. This volume is designed to present new ideas and approaches to analysis to open up a new perspective in the reception of Wittgenstein’s works. This volume of essays has a unity and bears throughout the imprint of Wittgenstein’s powerful and original mind. The authors have published most of their contributions in international journals. Following the bloodshed of 11th March 2004 in Madrid, a number of questions have arisen, questions that, according to our continental understanding of democracy, require prompt answers. A number of these questions have not even been asked yet by the intellectuals of Europe in general and those of Spain in particular. How can a democracy fight terrorism? This is deliberately referred to as the continental-European tradition in contrast to the Anglo-Saxon tradition. The latter has, yet again, embraced Hobbes’s old question (...) and pleads for security at the expense of freedom in all uncertain cases. 11th March in Madrid demonstrated that the terrorist scene has been organising its finances through the trafficking of drugs and arms. Can the systems of democracy with their policies that rest on careful management measures control this black market at all? All these questions are linked closely to the good old question of the limits of freedom. How do we define freedom in a society that must arm itself for the fight against all forms of arbitrary acts of terror, authoritarian rules and various forms of fanaticism? (shrink)

Depuis les attentats du 11 mars 2004 de Madrid se sont imposées quelques questions qui, d’après notre appréhension continentale de la démocratie, exigent des réponses urgentes. Certaines questions n’ont pas encore été formulées par les intellectuels en Europe et en Espagne. Comment peut-on combattre contre le terrorisme dans une démocratie? Celui-ci est intentionnellement désigné sous le nom de tradition continentale européenne, en opposition à la tradition anglo-saxonne. Cette dernière a de nouveau formulé la question de Hobbes et dans un cas (...) douteux plaide pour la sécurité au détriment de la liberté. Les événements du 11 mars ont prouvé que la scène terroriste est financée par le trafic d’armes et de drogue. Les systèmes démocratiques dont la politique repose sur des mesures d’économie peuvent-ils contrôler le marché noir? Toutes ces questions se rapportent à la vieille question notoire des limites de la liberté. Comment définir la liberté dans une société qui doit se pourvoir d’armes pour lutter contre les actes terroristes arbitraires, contre toute forme de gouvernement autoritaire et contre les différents aspects du fanatisme? Seit den Attentaten am 11. März 2004 in Madrid haben sich einige Fragen aufgedrängt, auf die nach unserem kontinentalen Demokratieverständnis dringend Antworten erwartet werden. Einige dieser Fragen haben sich die Intellektuellen in Europa und speziell in Spanien noch nicht einmal gestellt. Wie kann Terrorismus innerhalb einer Demokratie bekämpft werden? Es sei absichtlich die kontinental europäische Tradition in Abgrenzung zur angelsächsischen Tradition genannt. Letztere hat die alte Fragestellung von Hobbes wieder aufgegriffen und im Zweifelsfall für Sicherheit auf Kosten von Freiheit plädiert. (...) Der 11. März hat in Madrid gezeigt, dass sich die Terrorszene ihre Finanzierung durch den Schwarzhandel mit Drogen und Waffen organisierte. Können demokratische Systeme durch eine Sparmaßnahmenpolitik diese Schattenwirtschaft überhaupt in den Griff bekommen? All diese Fragen berühren die altbekannten Fragen nach der Grenze der Freiheit. Wie bestimmt man die Freiheit innerhalb einer Gesellschaft, die sich gegen jegliche Form willkürlicher Terrorakte, autoritärer Herrschaft und Formen des Fanatismus zur Wehr setzen muss? (shrink)

This article is divided into introduction andd three section. In the first section we examine Leibniz’ termini necesitas-possibilitas. In the second section we propose a minimal modal logic, LLM, arise from the addition of modal priciples. Finally in the last section we examine his complex studie towards the interpretation of modal language in the possible worlds. The resulting interplay between the minimal modallogic and the possible worlds perspective is one of the main charms of semantics.

In Logische Syntax der Sprache von Camap (1935) spielen die metalogischen Untersuchungen von 1931 eine wesentliche Rolle. Seine Metalogik von 1931 besteht in der Beschreibung und Erforschung des formalen Systems. Dazu mußte er eine sogenannte „Erläuterungssprache" entwickeln. Bezüglich des Charakters dieser Sprache haben Tarski, Gödel und Camap verschiedene Auffassungen vertreten. In den metalogischen Untersuchungen werden u.a. die Begriffe „Aussage" und „Folgerung" analysiert und bei beiden Begriffen zeigen sich die unterschiedlichen Auffassungen von Camap und Tarski. Camap definiert mit dem Folgemngsbegriff weiter (...) die Begriffe „analytisch" und „kontradiktorisch", wogegen Tarski einwendet, daß Camap seine Erklämng auf den Begriff „kontradiktorisch" verlagert und die metalogischen Untersuchungen dadurch unnötig verkompliziert. Paradoxes arises in self-referential language if a new perception cannot be adequately described. A solution is only possible by revising the categorical system as well as the language. This work focuses on the second aspect. The non-standard, modal proposals for the above-mentioned semantic paradoxes fall to completely satisfy both aspects since, as we still demonstrate, the language becomes self-restricting, which then bears serious consequences.

Summary This paper is intended to discuss the problems occurring in the relation between the notion of truth and the question of self-reference. To do this, we shall review Tarski's (T) convention and its related terminology. We shall clarify the relation between truth and extension in order to lead into the question of semantic paradoxes appearing in the theoretical models concerned with truth. Subsequently, we shall review the logical system which develops in the reformulation of the modal proposal of the (...) (T) convention. In closing, we shall critically examine Kripke's interpretation from the proposals made by Tarski. (shrink)

Es, por lo tanto, un libro sistemático, y de ahí su debilidad, al no haber asumido el origen de determinadas corrientes que aquí se exponen. Por esta razón, ha de indicarse de entrada que lo que el lector no encontrará será una reconstrucción crítica (...) de la basta bibliografía sobre el tema, ni una conclusión amplia de los senderos que ha tomado la investigación. El libro recompila pues, las tendencias más importantes y nos libera de la búsqueda infructuosa por las revistas como Studia Logica, el The Journal of Symbolic Logic, y demás revistas matemáticas especializadas en el tema. Por lo tanto, en resumidas cuentas, estamos ante un excelente modo de introducir pero con un deficiente aparato crítico. (shrink)
