CSR Institutionalized Myths in Developing Countries: An Imminent Threat of Selective Decoupling.Navjote Khara, Peter Lund-Thomsen & Dima Jamali - 2017 - Business and Society 56 (3):454-486.
This article examines joint action initiatives among small- and medium-sized enterprises in the manufacturing industries in developing countries in the context of the ascendancy of corporate social responsibility and the proliferation of a variety of international accountability tools and standards. Through empirical fieldwork in the football manufacturing industry of Jalandhar in North India, the article documents how local cluster-based SMEs stay coupled with the global CSR agenda through joint CSR initiatives focusing on child labor. Probing further, however, also reveals patterns (...)

Coding Psychological Constructs in Text Using Mechanical Turk: A Reliable, Accurate, and Efficient Alternative.Jennifer Tosti-Kharas & Caryn Conley - 2016 - Frontiers in Psychology 7:191179.
In this paper we evaluate how to effectively use the crowdsourcing service, Amazon’s Mechanical Turk (MTurk), to content analyze textual data for use in psychological research. MTurk is a marketplace for discrete tasks completed by workers, typically for small amounts of money. MTurk has been used to aid psychological research in general, and content analysis in particular. In the current study, MTurk workers content analyzed personally-written textual data using coding categories previously developed and validated in psychological research. These codes were (...)

Ethics and the Future of Meaningful Work: Introduction to the Special Issue.Evgenia I. Lysova, Jennifer Tosti-Kharas, Christopher Michaelson, Luke Fletcher, Catherine Bailey & Peter McGhee - 2023 - Journal of Business Ethics 185 (4):713-723.
The world of work over the past 3 years has been characterized by a great reset due to the COVID-19 pandemic, giving an even more central role to scholarly discussions of ethics and the future of work. Such discussions have the potential to inform whether, when, and which work is viewed and experienced as meaningful. Yet, thus far, debates concerning ethics, meaningful work, and the future of work have largely pursued separate trajectories. Not only is bridging these research spheres important (...)

Empowering Employee Sustainability: Perceived Organizational Support Toward the Environment.Cynthia E. King, Jennifer Tosti-Kharas & Eric Lamm - 2015 - Journal of Business Ethics 128 (1):207-220.
This paper contributes to the ongoing discussion of sustainability behaviors by introducing the construct of perceived organizational support toward the environment. We propose and empirically test an integrated model whereby we test the association of POS-E with employees’ organizational citizenship behaviors toward the environment as well as to job attitudes. Results indicated that POS-E was positively related to OCB-E, job satisfaction, organizational identification, and psychological empowerment, and negatively related to turnover intentions. We also found that psychological empowerment partially mediated the (...)

Anthony’s Death: Opera under the Condition of Žižek.Goyós Kharálampos - 2017 - International Journal of Žižek Studies 11 (3).
The paper attempts to trace the relevance of the work of Slavoj Žižek in the field of practical opera composition, taking as example the Greek contemporary opera Anthony’s Death, which dramatizes a multitude of Žižekian topics and concludes with a sung Žižek text. The paper argues that the tension between the dimensions of Meaning and Voice is constitutive of the genre of opera itself, and exhibits the strategies used by Anthony’s Death to thematize this disjunction. The work’s structure is then (...)

Social attention need not equal social intention: From attention to intention in early word learning.Kathy Hirsh-Pasek, Elizabeth Hennon, Roberta M. Golinkoff, Khara Pence, Rachel Pulverman, Jenny Sootsman, Shannon Pruden & Mandy Maguire - 2001 - Behavioral and Brain Sciences 24 (6):1108-1109.
Bloom's eloquent and comprehensive treatment of early word learning holds that social intention is foundational for language development. While we generally support his thesis, we call into question two of his proposals: (1) that attention to social information in the environment implies social intent, and (2) that infants are sensitive to social intent at the very beginnings of word learning.

What Role Does Regulation Play in Responsible Innovation of Nanotechnology in Food and Agriculture? Insights and Framings from U.S. Stakeholders.Jennifer Kuzma, Maude Cuchiara, Khara D. Grieger & Ashton W. Merck - 2022 - Bulletin of Science, Technology and Society 42 (3):85-103.
Historically, market regulation has played an important role in shaping the trajectory of scientific and technological innovation in food and agriculture. However, regulators’ traditional focus on safety and efficacy may be insufficient to address more complex ethical, legal, and social implications of novel products, such as the use of nanotechnology and nanomaterials in food and agriculture. One solution might be to implement the principles of responsible innovation to challenge innovators and policymakers to better anticipate risks further upstream and be responsive (...)

Responsible Innovation Definitions, Practices, and Motivations from Nanotechnology Researchers in Food and Agriculture.Adam E. Kokotovich, Jennifer Kuzma, Christopher L. Cummings & Khara Grieger - 2021 - NanoEthics 15 (3):229-243.
The growth of responsible innovation scholarship has been mirrored by a proliferation of RI definitions and practices, as well as a recognition of the importance of context for RI. This study investigates how researchers in the field of nanotechnology for food and agriculture define and practice RI, as well as what motivations they see for pursuing RI. We conducted 20 semi-structured interviews with nano-agrifood researchers from industry and academia in the USA, where we asked them to describe their RI definitions, (...)

Translating Chinese Tradition and Teaching Tangut Culture: Manuscripts and Printed Books From Khara-Khoto.Imre Galambos (ed.) - 2015 - De Gruyter.
This book examines Tangut translations of secular Chinese texts excavated from the ruins of Khara-khoto. After providing an overview of Tangut history and an introduction to the emergence of the field of Tangut studies, it presents four case studies grouped around different themes. A central concern of the book is the phenomenon of Tangut appropriation of Chinese written culture through translation and the reasons behind this.
