Cet entretien revient sur l’histoire des oppositions de gauche en URSS (notamment trotskystes, mais pas uniquement) et sur l’évolution actuelle de la Russie post-soviétique. Il critique les approches considérant l’URSS comme un « capitalisme d’État » et analyse les transformations à l’œuvre de la Russie contemporaine, notamment en terme de rapports de propriété. La nomenklatura joue un rôle contradictoire, tenant à conserver le contrôle de l’État tout en impulsant une vague de privatisations sous pression internationale.

The genetically manipulated organism crisis demonstrated that technological development based solely on the law of the marketplace and State protection against serious risks to health and safety is no longer a warrant of ethical acceptability. In the first part of our paper, we critique the implicitly individualist social-acceptance model for State regulation of technology and recommend an interdisciplinary approach for comprehensive analysis of the impacts and ethical acceptability of technologies. In the second part, we present a framework for the analysis (...) of impacts and acceptability, devised—with the goal of supporting the development of specific nanotechnological applications—by a team of researchers from various disciplines. At the conceptual level, this analytic framework is intended to make explicit those various operations required in preparing a judgement about the acceptability of technologies that have been implicit in the classical analysis of toxicological risk. On a practical level, we present a reflective tool that makes it possible to take into account all the dimensions involved and understand the reasons invoked in determining impacts, assessing them, and arriving at a judgement about acceptability. “La Poésie Comme Exercice Spirituel” first appeared in a 1942 issue of Revue Fontaine edited by Jacques and Raissa Maritain and was subsequently republished in Wah’s 1948 text Poésie, Pensée, Perception, published by Calmann-Lévy. The following is a translation of the Fontaine version. I have noted all of the variations from the latter version in the notes. As I emphasize in my commentary, the piece is a notable display of Wahl’s eclectic range of influences. Most importantly, it shows the (...) extent to which his interest in radical empiricism and process metaphysics informs his creative approach to the intersection of poetics and metaphysics. These interests are not explicitly named in the essay, and yet their influence is pervasive. This article attempts to sort out the misunderstandings between Jacques Derrida and Jean-Luc Nancy surrounding the question of the animal as they come to the fore in the conversations published in For Strasbourg. While Derrida finds the lack of animals in Nancy’s world puzzling, Nancy criticises Derrida’s blurring of the border between the human and the animal for inadvertently reinstating a scale or a difference, if not between humans and animals, at least between the living and the non-living. Though this criticism appears misguided at first, I argue that Nancy’s recasting of finitude in terms of the limit as the place of exposure undoes the phenomenological, or more precisely Heideggerian, understanding of sense and world, which Derrida still attributes to Nancy. Ultimately, what we have in both thinkers is a radically different account of plurality. Whereas Derrida emphasises the abyss between singularities and places faith, engagement, and responsibility at the origin of the world, for Nancy the edges between singularities always already hold any inside in contact with an outside, any one in contact with the other. In this essay, I focus on the community of thinking between Jacques Derrida and Jean-Luc Nancy. The relationship between those two thinkers is far from unambiguous: if they can be said to be thinking together, it certainly does not simply mean that they think the same thing or that they think it in the same way. I show that, because of its insistence on separation, Derrida's thinking is still a thinking of the one and the other and retains (...) a Levinasian flavour that is absent from Nancy's. Nancy's thinking insists on plurality, on the 'explosion of presence in the manifold of its partition'. It insists, in other words, on the world. If Nancy prefers the fabric of the world to the Other, it is because it only allows one to think a plurality that doesn't sacrifice the gift that each singularity is. (shrink)

In this paper, I read Jean-Luc Nancy's work on community in relation to Jacques Derrida's uneasiness with both the word "community" and the thing itself. in doing so, I underline a key difference, maybe even an opposition, in their way of thinking the singular plural, the singular in the plural, or the plurality of singularities. As a result, I oppose what I call Derrida’s politics of sacrifice to Nancy’s ontology of offering.

L'oeuvre de Gaston Bachelard (1884-1962) explore les deux versants de la culture moderne : la connaissance scientifique dans ses formes les plus innovantes et l'expérience poétique, de la rêverie spontanée aux grandes créations de la littérature dans ses expressions les plus immémoriales. Au-delà de ces rapports entre science et poésie, entre théorème et poème, ne pourrait-on pas trouver aussi, en filigrane, les lignes profondes d'une philosophie pratique, d'un humanisme et d'une sagesse? Les ouvrages de Bachelard livrent une mine de positions (...) et propositions, sous forme d'innombrables éclairs et éclairages sur l'être humain, toujours en devenir entre l'être et le devoir-être, entre l'être et le néant. Mais en dégageant une éthique de la connaissance et une autre de la création poétique, Bachelard dévoile une double dimension éthique, l'une plutôt marquée par la tradition chrétienne et kantienne, l'autre plutôt par un eudémonisme aristotélicien. Faut-il voir dans ce double discours éthique une contradiction, une incohérence, une négligence? Ou ne pourrait-on pas, de manière inattendue, conclure que pour Bachelard l'homme est double jusque dans sa vie morale? Contre l'éthique unidimensionnelle classique, Bachelard plaiderait donc pour une éthique plurielle. Jamais un philosophe n'avait osé s'aventurer dans pareille direction, et nous n'avons pas fini de méditer cette double racine morale de l'homme, et les conséquences théoriques et pratiques de cette proposition singulière.
