Emotional and attentional predictors of self-regulation in early childhood.Arkadiusz Białek, Marta Białecka-Pikul, Magdalena Kosno, Karolina Byczewska-Konieczny, Irmina Rostek & Małgorzata Stępień-Nycz - 2015 - Polish Psychological Bulletin 46 (3):421-432.
The development of self-regulation in early childhood is related to development of emotional regulation and attention, in particular executive attention. As the ability to self-regulate is crucial in life, it is important to reveal early predictors of self-regulation. The aim of the paper is to present the results of longitudinal studies on the relationships between the functioning of attention, regulation of emotion and later self-regulatory abilities. 310 children were assessed at three time points. At 12 months of age emotional regulation (...)

Epiphenomenalism and the Epistemic Argument.Jan Rostek - forthcoming - Acta Analytica:1-19.
The epistemic argument against epiphenomenalism aims to prove that even if epiphenomenalism is true, its adherents are not able to justify their inferential beliefs. This would mean that they cannot know that they are right which is a self-stultifying consequence. I elaborate on this problem and then present an updated version of epiphenomenalism based on property dualism. I argue that this position is capable of refuting the conclusion of the epistemic argument even in spite of accepting its essential assumptions. This (...)

    Kompatybilistyczna odpowiedź na problem wykluczenia przyczynowego.Jan Rostek - 2019 - Filozofia Nauki 27 (1):73-93.
The causal exclusion problem, as presented by Jaegwon Kim, is aimed to show that non-reductive physicalism is self-contradictory, as it is impossible for effects already having a sufficient physical cause to have a distinct mental cause. One possible reply to Kim’s argument is compatibilism — a view within non-reductive physicalism that states that psychophysical supervenience is able to sustain the coexistence of efficacious mental and physical causes. The aim of this paper is to describe the currently most popular compatibilist strategy, (...)
