Diverging by Gender: Syrian Refugees’ Divisions of Labor and Formation of Human Capital in the United States.Heba Gowayed - 2019 - Gender and Society 33 (2):251-272.
In this article, I examine how Syrian refugee men and women shifted their household divisions of labor in their initial years of resettlement in the United States. I combine and extend relational approaches from gender theory and economic sociology to examine how men’s and women’s behaviors shifted, the resources engendered by behavioral shifts, and how they interpreted and compensated for new behaviors and resources. I show that shifts in Syrian household divisions of labor occurred at the intersection of inequalities in (...)

Transformation of Ideology as Fault Line in State Structure of Pakistan.Saleem Raza Baig - 2018 - Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities 57 (2):65-76.
The development of ideologies in re-construction and transformation of the Indian subcontinent during and after its division into new nation states in 1947emerged as the fault lines in its structural and organizational imbalances, which is an interesting phenomenon and at times led to the violent and radical political discourses. This ideological transformation became imbalanced, due to the exploitation by opportunists in state and political elements, through consciously planned attitude especially in dogma, religious traditions, ethnicity and political/state governance thereby fulfilling ulterior (...)

A Hybrid Grey Wolf Optimiser Algorithm for Solving Time Series Classification Problems.Heba Al Nsour, Mohammed Alweshah, Abdelaziz I. Hammouri, Hussein Al Ofeishat & Seyedali Mirjalili - 2019 - Journal of Intelligent Systems 29 (1):846-857.
One of the major objectives of any classification technique is to categorise the incoming input values based on their various attributes. Many techniques have been described in the literature, one of them being the probabilistic neural network. There were many comparisons made between the various published techniques depending on their precision. In this study, the researchers investigated the search capability of the grey wolf optimiser algorithm for determining the optimised values of the PNN weights. To the best of our knowledge, (...)

  18. The Erasure Of A Mad And An Infamous Mother In Jean Rhys’s Wide Sargasso Sea.Mirza Muhammad Zubair Baig - 2014 - Pakistan Journal of Gender Studies 9 (1):23-35.
The character of Bertha Mason has been stereotyped as a “madwoman in the attic” in Charlotte Bronte’s novel “Jane Eyre.” Jean Rhys in her novel “Wide Sargasso Sea,” has tried to re-inscribe her character as Antoinette by analyzing how the imperialist and patriarchal forces led a woman from the wide world of Sargasso Sea to the attic of Thornfield Hall England. My contention to this corrective process of rewriting as rerighting is that, in an effort to authenticate Antoinette’s character, this (...)

The First World War was the scenario that led to the invention and systematic use of military camouflage techniques. Between them, the two fundamental modes of static or pictorial camouflage: mimetic, known as Disruptive Pattern Material, and the naval, called Dazzle Painting. Avantgarde artists contributed to their birth. Immediately, there was the transfer of these techniques to the civilian sphere, revealing that its essentially practical essence did not prevent the exploitation of its aesthetic potential by contemporary visual culture. Throughout the (...)

Operator Calculus: The Lost Formulation of Quantum Mechanics: A Mathematical Reconstruction.Gonzalo Gimeno, Mercedes Xipell & Marià Baig - 2020 - Archive for History of Exact Sciences 75 (3):283-322.
Traditionally, “the operator calculus of Born and Wiener” has been considered one of the four formulations of quantum mechanics that existed in 1926. The present paper reviews the operator calculus as applied by Max Born and Norbert Wiener during the last months of 1925 and the early months of 1926 and its connections with the rise of the new quantum theory. Despite the relevance of this operator calculus, Born–Wiener’s joint contribution to the topic is generally bypassed in historical accounts of (...)

  22. Can Compression Garments Reduce Inter-Limb Balance Asymmetries?Frédéric Noé, Kévin Baige & Thierry Paillard - 2022 - Frontiers in Human Neuroscience 16.
Sensory cues provided by compression garments can improve movement accuracy and potentially reduce inter-limb balance asymmetries and the associated risk of injury. The aim of this study was to analyze the effects of CG wearing on inter-limb balance asymmetries. The hypothesis was that CG would reduce inter-limb balance asymmetries, especially in subjects with high level of asymmetries. Twenty-five sportsmen were recruited. They had to stand as motionless as possible in a one-leg stance in two postural tasks, while wearing CG or (...)

Prospects of Traditional and Non-Traditional Security Concerns in Indian-Pakistani Rivalry.Saleem Raza Baig - 2016 - Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities 55 (2):115-134.
Security has always been a force multiplier to concentrate over the traditional military stockpile for the perceived threats in the modern days of nation states focused on the conceptualization of non-traditional security dwelling into integration, like European Union’s regional cooperation rather than towards diverting assets on further devolutions or disintegrations over the phenomenon of ‘security dilemma’ as is the case of India and Pakistan. Indeed, the later phenomenological conceptual framework had never diminished in its essence which forced the welfare states (...)

Microseismicity-Derived Fracture Network Characterization of Unconventional Reservoirs by Topology.Ellie P. Ardakani, Adam M. Baig, Ted Urbancic & Katie Bosman - 2018 - Interpretation: SEG 6 (2):SE49-SE61.
The advent of horizontal drilling technology, combined with multistaged hydraulic fracturing to create a complex fracture network within the relatively impermeable rock mass, has made natural gas production from tight reservoirs economically feasible. Understanding of the generated fracture network properties, such as its spatial distribution, extension, connection, and ability to percolate, plays a significant role in evaluation of the stimulation efficiency, optimizing analytical frac models, and ultimately enhancing completion programs. We have developed a unique approach to understand the influence of (...)

The Muslim Conquest of the City of Al-Ubulla.Irsan Ramini & Heba Al-Zuraiqi - 2020 - Journal of Islamic Studies 31 (2):173-184.
This paper discusses the dating of the Muslim conquest of the southern Iraqi port city of al-Ubulla. Arab historians give two conflicting accounts of the event: one puts it in the year 14 ah; the other in the year 16 ah. Modern scholars for their part have made no serious attempt to reconcile the two accounts. They have linked the disagreement with the traditional rivalry between Basran and Kufan historians and, generally, tended to prefer the latter account. This paper takes (...)
