Ethics of the fiduciary relationship between patient and physician: the case of informed consent.Sophie Ludewigs, Jonas Narchi, Lukas Kiefer & Eva C. Winkler - forthcoming - Journal of Medical Ethics.
This paper serves two purposes: first, the proposition of an ethical fiduciary theory that substantiates the often-cited assertion that the patient–physician relationship is fiduciary in nature; and second, the application of this theory to the case of informed consent. Patients’ decision-making preferences vary significantly. While some seek fully autonomous decision-making, others prefer to delegate parts of their decision. Therefore, we propose an ethical fiduciary theory that allows physician and patient to jointly determine the physician’s role on a spectrum from fiduciary (...)

COVID-19 Pandemic and Student Reading Achievement: Findings From a School Panel Study.Ulrich Ludewig, Ruben Kleinkorres, Rahim Schaufelberger, Theresa Schlitter, Ramona Lorenz, Christoph König, Andreas Frey & Nele McElvany - 2022 - Frontiers in Psychology 13.
Since 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic had an impact on education worldwide. There is increased discussion of possible negative effects on students’ learning outcomes and the need for targeted support. We examined fourth graders’ reading achievement based on a school panel study, representative on the student level, with N = 111 elementary schools in Germany. The students were tested with the Progress in International Reading Literacy Study instruments in 2016 and 2021. The analysis focused on total average differences in reading achievement (...)

Das Bild der Jüdischen Mutter zwischen Schtetl und Großstadt.Anna-Dorothea Ludewig - 2012 - Zeitschrift für Religions- Und Geistesgeschichte 64 (1):48-58.
The Jewish Mother, or Jiddische Mamme, is one of the most popular images of the Jewess in mid-19th and 20th century. Linked to the biblical Jewish women and mothers, arises a complex negative-grotesque stereotype, which is connected to the traditional image of the Jewess as,,home-keeper“ and was developed by the Shtetl-literature into a bitter and inapproachable,,family provider“. Finally, the overprotective and manipulative Jewish Mother is an integral part of American literature, film and comedy. The paper will trace these changes of (...)

,,Ein Vorhof zum Paradies". Das Czernowitz-Bild in der deutsch-jüdischen Literatur.Anna-Dorothea Ludewig - 2006 - Zeitschrift für Religions- Und Geistesgeschichte 58 (3):216-226.
The present research on Czernowitz focuses mostly on the 20th century and on the works and memoirs of Holocaust survivors. But Czernowitz was at its cultural and economical height at the end of the 19th century, and it was during that time that the myth of the,,ideal city" was established. This essay stresses the importance of that time period for understanding the,,Czernowitz myth," and it analyzes the relationship between the,,real" place Czernowitz and the literary topos of a,,sunken city".

  12. 'Ludewig' Molina and Kant's Libertarian Compatibilism.Wolfgang Ertl - 2014 - In Matthias Kaufmann & Alexander Aichele (eds.), A Companion to Luis de Molina. Brill. pp. 405-445.
Elaborating on the substantial parallels between Molina’s and Kant’s attempts to reconcile human freedom with divine foreknowledge and natural causal determinism respectively, my aim is to establish a proper historical connection as well. Leibniz is shown to be the crucial mediator in two respects: (i) Kant knew Molina’s account of divine knowledge in general in its Leibnizian version through Baumgarten’s Metaphysica. In this work, scientia media plays no role in the explication as to how God knows absolute future contingents. (ii) (...)

Inventing the archive.Kasper Risbjerg Eskildsen - 2013 - History of the Human Sciences 26 (4):8-26.
This article investigates the emergence of the archive as the primary venue for the production of historical knowledge in the 19thcentury. The turn to archival research, the article argues, may be considered as a response to the discussions about the problems of testimony that dominated 18th- and early 19th-century German writings on the methodology and epistemology of historical research. These discussions, especially regarding the epistemic virtues of witnesses, also helped create the particular culture of knowledge-making within German historical scholarship that (...)

History of Rational Philosophy among the Arabs and Turks.Mehmet Karabela - 2021 - In Islamic Thought Through Protestant Eyes. New York: Routledge. pp. 181-194.
In his disputatio, Johann Peter von Ludewig provides a history of rational philosophy among the Arabs and sets out to contextualize the Turks’ attitude to it. Like many Lutheran scholars of the time, Ludewig believed that Islam, as a religion, impeded the development of rational philosophy in the Arab world. However, unlike those philosophers, he examines external influences that may have fed the interest of Arab Muslims in rational philosophy, especially dialectic. Unlike Orthodox Lutherans, such as Pfeiffer and (...)
