    A Phenomenological Analysis of the Psychotic Experience.A. -C. Leiviskä Deland, G. Karlsson & H. Fatouros-Bergman - 2011 - Human Studies 34 (1):23-42.
Six individuals with experience of psychosis were interviewed about their psychotic experiences. The material was analyzed using the empirical phenomenological psychological method. The results consist of a whole meaning structure, a gestalt, entailing the following characteristics: The feeling of estrangement in relationship to the world; the dissolution of time; the loss of intuitive social knowledge; the alienation of oneself, and finally; the loss of intentionality/loss of agency. In brief, the results show that an altered perception of the self and the (...)

  3. Delineating paternalism in pediatric care.John H. Sorenson & Garrett E. Bergman - 1984 - Theoretical Medicine and Bioethics 5 (1).
Paternalism in the medical care of children is appropriate and ethically justifiable. However, dilemmatic disagreement by paternalistic agents as to which clinical choice is in the child's best interest may occur because of the underlying conflict between two rival standards for the moral value of life: longevity versus quality. Neither standard is unreasonable. Either could be the basis for choice of medical care by the parents or by the pediatrician. Having the child choose between options disputed by his parents and (...)

The Jewish philosophy reader.Daniel H. Frank, Oliver Leaman & Charles Harry Manekin (eds.) - 2000 - New York: Routledge.
The Jewish Philosophy Reader is the first comprehensive anthology of classic writings on Jewish philosophy from the Bible to postmodernism. The Reader is clearly divided into four separate parts: Foundations and First Principles, Medieval and Renaissance Jewish Philosophy, Modern Jewish Thought, and Contemporary Jewish Philosophy. Each part is clearly introduced by the editors. The readings featured are representative writings of each era listed above and are from the following major thinkers: Abrabanel, Baeck, Bergman, Borowitz, Buber, Cohen, Crescas, Fackenheim, Geiger, (...)

    The Bergman‐Shelah preorder on transformation semigroups.Zak Mesyan, James D. Mitchell, Michał Morayne & Yann H. Péresse - 2012 - Mathematical Logic Quarterly 58 (6):424-433.
Let equation image be the semigroup of all mappings on the natural numbers equation image, and let U and V be subsets of equation image. We write U≼V if there exists a countable subset C of equation image such that U is contained in the subsemigroup generated by V and C. We give several results about the structure of the preorder ≼. In particular, we show that a certain statement about this preorder is equivalent to the Continuum Hypothesis. The preorder ≼ (...)

S.h. Bergman on the relation between philosophy and religion.Ze'ev Levy - 1986 - In Abraham Zvie Bar-On (ed.), Grazer Philosophische Studien. Distributed in the U.S.A. By Humanities Press. pp. 115-134.
The relations between philosophy, science and religion preoccupied S.H. Bergman for many years. He wanted to corroborate, by belief, a personal God to whom, and not only about whom, one can speak. This should follow from authentic religious experience, making it independent from philosophy. Furthermore, according to Bergman, religion can do what philosophical reasoning is incapable of doing since he considers belief to be stronger than knowledge. A criticalscrutiny of these assumptions involves some interesting implications concerning toleration, freedom-of-thought (...)

    S.H. Bergman.A. Zvie Bar-On - 1985 - Grazer Philosophische Studien 24 (1):1-2.
Two stages are discernible in S.H. Bergman's philosophical development. The early Bergman differs from the later Bergman as much in the philosophical method as in the choice of the fields of research and problems to deal with. The early Bergman acted predominantly as a philosopher of science, focussing his attention on the ultimate presuppositions of scientific thinking. In the second stage this gave way to speculations of a rather anthropological character. The laterBergman sought to solve the (...)

    Cruelty: A dispositional or a situational behavior in man?Mika Haritos-Fatouros - 2006 - Behavioral and Brain Sciences 29 (3):230-230.
Presentation of evidence from multiple disciplines is the most impressive feature of Nell's article. I have observations and objections, however, about the following issues: (1) violence as a by-product of cruelty; (2) the equation of animal and human cruelty; (3) social psychological evidence contrary to the biological model; (4) whether prevention of cruelty best arises from predispositional or situational factors.

    Epistularum Byzantinarum Initia, conscripsit Michael Grünbart.Georgios Fatouros - 2004 - Byzantinische Zeitschrift 96 (1):293-295.

Researching Emotion in Courts and the Judiciary: A Tale of Two Projects.Sharyn Roach Anleu, Stina Bergman Blix & Kathy Mack - 2015 - Emotion Review 7 (2):145-150.
The dominant image of judicial authority is emotional detachment; however, judicial work involves emotion. This presents a challenge for researchers to investigate emotions where they are disavowed. Two projects, one in Australia and another in Sweden, use multiple sociological research methods to study judicial experience, expression, and management of emotion. In both projects, observational research examines judicial officers’ display of emotion in court, while interviews investigate judicial emotional experiences. Surveys in Australia identify emotions judicial officers generally find important in their (...)
