Emotions and Instructed Language Learning: Proposing a Second Language Emotions and Positive Psychology Model.Kaiqi Shao, Laura J. Nicholson, Gulsah Kutuk & Fei Lei - 2020 - Frontiers in Psychology 11.
Although emotion research and positive psychology have recently gained strong momentum in the field of second language acquisition, theoretical models linking language emotion and PP research, which offer insights for both research and intervention practice are lacking. To address this gap, the present article first introduces the origin, concept, and research around PP. Next, it summarizes recent research on PP and emotions in SLA. Finally, by triangulating emotion theories and research in the fields of psychology, education, and SLA, we propose (...)

Exploring Environmental Ethics: From Exclusion of More-than-Human Beings Towards a New Materialist Paradigm.Gülşah Göçmen - 2023 - Avant: Trends in Interdisciplinary Studies 14.
Environmental ethics deals with discussing the ethical framework of environmental values, their organization and regulation, and their ethical premises. One of the main cul-de-sacs that environmental ethics has is its anthropocentrism that can be observed through its diverse ethical approaches—even ecocentric ones, developed as non-anthropocentric egalitarian alternatives. This article aims to question the exclusiveness of Anthropos, the practices, values, and discourses that determine the scope and course of environmental ethics, and the exclusion of nonhuman animals or more-than human beings from (...)

The Role of Parents, Siblings, Peers, Relatives and Other Agents in Turkish–Muslim Emerging Adults’ Religious Socializations.Gözde Özdikmenli-Demir & Birsen Şahin-Kütük - 2012 - Archive for the Psychology of Religion 34 (3):363-396.
In this exploratory qualitative study, the open-ended responses of 71 Turkish–Muslim university students regarding their religious socialization experiences were coded by NVivo 8. Results indicate that both parents play a major role in their offspring's religious socialization. However, participants perceive their same-sex parents in particular as being more influential. Parents’ methods for transmitting religious values and practices include having religious talks with their children, answering their questions about Islam, sending them to mosques, reinforcing and/or punishing their behaviours. Peers, siblings, and (...)

    The nuclear import machinery is a determinant of influenza virus host adaptation.Patricia Resa-Infante & Gülsah Gabriel - 2013 - Bioessays 35 (1):23-27.
After viral entry into the cell, the nuclear envelope poses a major cellular barrier that needs to be overcome upon adaptation of highly pathogenic avian influenza viruses (HPAIV) to the new host. To ensure efficient viral transcription and replication in the nucleus of the host cell, the viral polymerase complex of avian influenza viruses needs to switch from recognition of avian to mammalian components of the nuclear import machinery. Recent evidence suggests that influenza viruses have evolved different mechanisms to utilize (...)
