Authority and theodicy in Hobbes's leviathan.George Wright - 2004 - Rivista di Storia Della Filosofia 1.

The key distinction between human and divine authority is captured in the differing positions of the slave and the hired man, as these were known in antiquity. The author then links authority to theodicy by way of the distinction that Hobbes consistently (...)

    Tuck's Grotius: De Iure Praedae in Context.George Wright - 2007 - Grotiana 26 (1):366-378.
This paper explores Richard Tuck's account of Grotius as the key innovator in the history that leads to the invention both of the free individual, protective of his or her rights, and of the modern liberal state, respectful of individuals' rights.
