It is known that in differentially closed fields of characteristic zero, the ranks of stability $RU$, $RM$ and the topological rank $RH$ need not to be equal. Pillay and Pong have just shown however that the ranks $RU$ and $RM$ coincide in a group definable in this theory. At the opposite, we will show in this paper that the ranks $RM$ and $RH$ of a definable group can also be different, and even lead to non-equivalent notions of generic type.

We give a reduction of the function field Mordell–Lang conjecture to the function field Manin–Mumford conjecture, for abelian varieties, in all characteristics, via model theory, but avoiding recourse to the dichotomy theorems for Zariski geometries. Additional ingredients include the “Theorem of the Kernel”, and a result of Wagner on commutative groups of finite Morley rank without proper infinite definable subgroups. In positive characteristic, where the main interest lies, there is one more crucial ingredient: “quantifier-elimination” for the corresponding [Formula: see text] (...) where [Formula: see text] is a saturated separably closed field. Ce livre, a travers une mise en perspective historique et conceptuelle globale, remet en question cette evidence. Non pas qu'il rejette la notion de phenomene, mais il essaie de comprendre d'abord de quel type de decision philosophique elle (...) est le produit et quel type de montage elle suppose. Sur cette base, il met en lumiere sous quelles conditions on peut effectivement parler de phenomenes et dissipe la mythologie liee a un emploi inconditionne de ce terme, frequent dans la philosophie contemporaine. In this paper we propose a new semantics, based on the notion of a "contextual model", that makes it possible to express and compare — within a unique formal framework — different views on the roles of various notions of context in knowledge ascriptions. We use it to provide a logical analysis of such positions as skeptical and moderate invariantism, contextualism, and subject-sensitive invariantism. A dynamic formalism is also proposed that offers new insights into a classical skeptical puzzle.

Rapprocher langage et musique, ou "logos" et "meios", peut apparaître comme une entreprise à la fois banale et périlleuse. En effet, le sens commun hésite d'emblée entre deux thèses opposées et apparemment irréconciliables : par certains aspects, la musique parle à tout auditeur, fût-il peu averti, elle parle aux émotions et elle est même souvent présentée comme un langage universel ; mais la musique semble également inaccessible aux mots, impossible à décrire ou à paraphraser, parce qu'elle serait justement apte à (...) exprimer - le plus souvent sans mots - "l'indicible" ou "l'ineffable". O isolamento social para a contenção da contaminação pela COVID-19 impactou o processo educacional, resultando em efeitos severos na precarização da aprendizagem escolar, principalmente em estudantes de famílias de baixa renda. E como alternativas para que a educação escolar não estagnasse, foi proposta a realização de aulas síncronas através da internet. Entretanto, essa modalidade de ensino não proporciona a universalização do ensino e muito menos o acesso por todos, uma vez que muitos estudantes não possuem acesso à internet. Nas aulas (...) síncronas, o ensino híbrido possibilita que o processo de ensino tenha continuidade no período pandêmico, por utilizar diversas estratégias pedagógicas e também mitigar a aglomeração dos estudantes nas escolas. O professor e os alunos são inseridos em um processo educacional diferente em relação ao ensino tradicional, favorecendo o protagonismo dos alunos, para que possam trabalhar em grupos e compartilhar conhecimentos, e utilizando tecnologias digitais como aliadas nesse processo. Le normalien Tran Duc Thao (1917-1993), ne fut pas seulement le premier agrégé de philosophie vietnamien, il a aussi été un des premiers en France à traverser toute la pensée de Husserl, jusqu'à ses zones les moins fréquentées. Il campe un Husserl entier, pris dans toutes les ramifications de sa réflexion. La physionomie de ce qu'est Husserl pour nous, aujourd'hui, dépend encore largement de la synthèse qu'il a effectuée. En même temps on ne saurait le comprendre sans tenir compte du (...) passage entre cultures qu'il incarne, de sa langue maternelle vietnamienne, de son effort pour trouver une solution de continuité entre la phénoménologie et ce qu'il considère comme l'outil essentiel dans les luttes anticoloniales, à savoir une forme personnelle de marxisme. Au moment où son ouvrage sur la phénoménologie husserlienne, version étendue d'un mémoire présenté à Jean Cavaillès, paraît chez un éditeur confidentiel en 1951, son intérêt s'est déplacé vers le Vietnam et les mouvements annonciateurs des luttes pour l'indépendance en Indochine. Tran Duc Thao qui, d'Althusser à Derrida en passant par Kojève ou Sartre, a marqué tant de philosophes de l'après-guerre a également été un des premiers intellectuels du Vietnam indépendant. Ce livre présente certains des résultats du travail du Réseau Thématique Pluridisciplinaire du CNRS "Phenomath". Les philosophes et mathématiciens de ce groupe ont uni leurs forces afin de développer une réflexion originale sur la pensée mathématique. Au lieu de soumettre cette dernière a priori à un cadre théorique, ils ont voulu l'interroger dans les formalismes qu'elle met en place pour y reconnaître les lieux de la production d'un sens. It had another advantage which was that the criticisms aimed at Bellarmine could apply to a wide range of the positions held by Anglicans. The heterodox theology defended by Thomas Hobbes had been condemned equally by Rome and Canterbury on several essential points, such as the corporeal nature of God and the soul, the mortality of the soul, the denial of Hell's (...) eternal punishments, and the implicit rejection of the Trinity. The indirect power stigmatized by Hobbes was a central element in Bellarmine's conceptual arsenal. The critique of papalism connected Hobbes with a powerful anti‐Roman current within the Catholic Church, which remained a central target of the pope's advocates for a long time. (shrink)

This book explores the ethical dimensions surrounding the development of education for sustainable development within schools, and examines these issues through the lens of ethical literacy. The book argues that teaching children to engage with nature is crucial if they are to develop a true understanding of sustainability and climate issues, and claims that sustainability education is much more successful when pupils are treated as moral agents rather than being passive subjects of testing and assessment. The many well-publicized food scandals in recent years have resulted in a general state of vulnerable trust. As a result, building consumer trust has become an important goal in agri-food policy. In their efforts to protect trust in the agricultural and food sector, governments and industries have tended to consider the problem of trust as merely a matter of informing consumers on risks. In this article, we argue that the food sector better addresses the problem of trust from the perspective (...) of the trustworthiness of the food sector itself. This broad idea for changing the focus of trust is the assumption that if you want to be trusted, you should be trustworthy. To provide a clear understanding of what being trustworthy means within the food sector, we elaborate on both the concept of trust and of responsibility. In this way we show that policy focused on enhancing transparency and providing information to consumers is crucial, but not sufficient for dealing with the problem of consumer trust in the current agri-food context. European animal disease policy seems to find its justification in a “harm to other” principle. Limiting the freedom of animal keepers—e.g., by culling their animals—is justified by the aim to prevent harm, i.e., the spreading of the disease. The picture, however, is more complicated. Both during the control of outbreaks and in the prevention of notifiable, animal diseases the government is confronted with conflicting claims of stakeholders who anticipate running a risk to be harmed by each other, and who ask (...) for government intervention. In this paper, we first argue that in a policy that aims to prevent animal diseases, the focus shifts from limiting “harm” to weighing conflicting claims with respect to “risks of harm.” Therefore, we claim that the harm principle is no longer a sufficient justification for governmental intervention in animal disease prevention. A policy that has to deal with and distribute conflicting risks of harm needs additional value assumptions that guide this process of assessment and distribution. We show that currently, policies are based on assumptions that are mainly economic considerations. In order to show the limitations of these considerations, we use the interests and position of keepers of backyard animals as an example. Based on the problems they faced during and after the recent outbreaks, we defend the thesis that in order to develop a sustainable animal disease policy other than economic assumptions need to be taken into account.
