Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts We have not used OCR, as this leads to bad quality books with introduced typos. In books where there are images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made available for future generations to enjoy.

Friedrich Paulsen war ein in der Wilhelminischen Zeit bekannter deutscher Pädagoge und Philosoph. Er gilt als Vater des modernen Gymnasiums. Paulsen ist auch als Kant-Forscher bekannt und ist ein Vertreter des Neuidealismus. Das vorliegende Werk umfasst neben der Biographie Kants eine ausführliche Auseinandersetzung des Autors mit dem philosophischen System Kants. Paulsen beschränkt sich nicht nur auf die Darstellung der Grundgedanken des Kantischen Systems, sondern versucht seine Leser, nach eigenen Angaben, "zugleich über die Kantischen Studien der Gegenwart, die Verschiedenheit der Auffassung (...) an den Hauptpunkten, das Quellenmaterial, das uns für die Erkenntnis der Gedanken und ihrer Entwicklung zu Gebot steht" zu unterrichten. Zentrale Partien des Kantischen Gedankenkreises werden hervorgehoben, peripherische nur skizziert und die Metaphysik Kants eingehend dargestellt, damit das Buch all denen " die Kant selbst lesen und studieren wollen, zum Führer dienen" soll. " Ich kann micht nicht zu den unbedingten Anhängern Kants zählen; wohl aber bin ich der Überzeugung, dass seine Philosophie mit ihren grossen Grundgedanken auch der Welt-und Lebensanschauung der Gegenwart die Wege zu weisen berufen ist. Und der Ernst und die Kraft, die er an die Aufklärung der letzten und tiefsten Probleme gesetzt hat, wird seine Werke für alle Zeiten zu einem ebenso anziehenden als würdigen Gegenstand des Studiums machen."
