A series of seven epigrams from the Anthologia Marciana (MS Marc. gr. 524) sheds light on the life of John IX Merkouropoulos, patriarch of Jerusalem in exile (1157-before 1166). The evidence that comes to light reveals traces of a monastic network connecting Jerusalem with Constantinople. According to the epigrams, John became a monk at Mar Saba - something further evinced by the double vita of St John of Damascus and Kosmas of Maiouma that he composed [BHG 395]. After staying at (...) the Koutsovendis monastery, he travelled to Constantinople, where Manuel I appointed him on the patriarchal see and also made him abbot of the monastery of St Diomedes/New Zion in Constantinople. Shortly before or after John’s departure from life, his disciple, the monk Clement, attempted to manifest that his spiritual father was a holy man. Thus, Clement had John’s portrait placed next to that of St James, the brother of God. John’s complex relationship with the Syropalestinian monastic tradition make his life and the survival of his memory an exceprional case study for understanduing the phenomenon of Holy Men in twelfth-century Constantinople. Historically Wales has been regarded as a country with relatively low levels of school exclusion, particularly in comparison with England. This has been used as an indicator of Wales’ commitment to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, which foregrounds a rights-based agenda that would argue school exclusion is a consequence of broader socio-economic structures than individual actions. However, simple analyses may mask a different picture of school exclusions in Wales. In this article, we study more detailed information (...) on formal school exclusions by looking at ‘instances’ of school exclusion, which considers the frequency and length of formal school exclusions in Wales, and alongside recorded school absence. The article also demonstrates that the pupils ‘at risk’ of formal school exclusion varies by when they experience school exclusion during their educational lifecourse. The article concludes by highlighting that patterns of school exclusion are complex, and that interpretation of these patterns depends on what kind of measure of school exclusion is used. By publishing these results, the article hopes to persuade policymakers and practitioners to re-examine their processes of exclusion to ensure they are commensurate with the law and to prevent unnecessary school exclusions. In den neun Büchern seiner Kirchengeschichte hat Salamanes Hermeias Sozomenos den religiösen Wandel vom Hellenentum zum Christentum dargestellt. Eine moderne deutsche Übersetzung der Kirchengeschichte des Sozomenos hat Günther Christian Hansen (H.) nach der von ihm bearbeiteten Textausgabe unternommen (Sozomenos, Kirchengeschichte. Hrsg. VON J. BIDEZ/G. C. HANSEN. GCS N.F., 4. Berlin 1960, 2. Aufl. 1995). Das vierbändige Werk enthält: Einleitung (S. 9–84) mit einer Inhaltsübersicht (S. 42–51), Textübersetzung der neun Bücher (S. 86–1103), Bibliographie (S. 1104–1128) und Register (S. 1129–1164).

Approaches to foster motor creativity differ according to whether creative movements are assumed to be enacted creative ideas, or solutions to emerging motor problems that arise from task and environmental constraints. The twofold aim of the current study was to investigate whether an enriched physical education intervention delivered with a joint constraints-led and cognitive stimulation approach fosters motor creativity, and the responsiveness to the intervention is moderated by baseline motor and cognitive skills and sex; the intervention may benefit motor creativity (...) through gains in motor coordination, executive function, and creative thinking. Ninety-five children, aged 6–9 years, participated in a 6-month group randomized trial with specialist-led enriched PE vs. generalist-led conventional PE. Before and after the intervention, Bertsch’s Test of Motor Creativity, Movement Assessment Battery for Children, Random Number Generation task and Torrance Test of Creative Thinking were administered. Linear mixed models were run accounting for the random effects of data clusters. Multiple mediation analysis was performed to assess whether motor coordination, executive function and creative thinking mediated any improvement of motor creativity. Results showed that specialist-led enriched PE, compared to generalist-led conventional practice, elicited a more pronounced improvement in all motor creativity dimensions independently of baseline levels of motor and cognitive skills and sex; and improved motor creativity was partially mediated by improved motor coordination and, as regards motor flexibility, also by improved inhibitory ability. In conclusion, enriching PE with tailored manipulations of constraints and variability may enhance the ability to create multiple and original task-pertinent movements both directly and through indirect paths. The results are discussed extending to motor creativity a theoretical framework that distinguishes different creativity modes. The intervention may have fostered the generation of creative movements directly through the exposure to variation in constraints, activating the sensorimotor ‘flow’ mode of creativity that bypasses higher-order cognition, but also indirectly through a systematic and conscious convergence on solutions, activating the ‘deliberate’ mode of creativity that relies on inhibition to reject common or task-inappropriate movement categories. Die Alexias Anna Komnenes ist eine sehr wichtige und interessante historische Quelle für die Zeit um die Wende vom 11. zum 12. Jh. Bereits im J. 1970 bezüglich des 15. Buches und im J. 1990 bezüglich der Bücher 1–14 der Alexias wurde von A. Kambylis und D. R. Reinsch entsprechend festgestellt, daß die bis zu jenem Zeitpunkt erschienenen Ausgaben einschließlich der von B. Leib (1937 (1967), 1943 (1967), 1945) verbesserungsbedürftig waren. So wurde der Plan zu einer neuen kritischen Ausgabe der (...) ganzen Alexias auf der Basis einer erneuten Kollation der Hss. und eines gesicherten Stemmas gefaßt. Durch das vorliegende Werk, das unter Mitwirkung von D. R. Reinsch und A. Kambylis entstanden ist (wobei D. R. Reinsch für die Bücher 1–14, A. Kambylis für Buch 15 verantwortlich ist), wurde dieser Plan auf beste Weise erfüllt: Nicht nur wurden die Hss. gründlich (neu) kollationiert, wodurch viele Verlesungen der älteren Ausgaben, insbesondere der von Leib, ans Licht gekommen sind und beseitigt werden konnten; darüberhinaus wurde ein (bisher fehlendes) sicheres und klares Stemma erstellt, welches wiederum zu einer Neubewertung der Hss. als Textzeugen führte. Demnach wurde mehr Wert auf die Hs. F gelegt, die nunmehr meistens als Basis der Textkonstitution zugrundegelegt worden ist, während die Hss. C und V um eine Stufe tiefer (als bisher) gestellt wurden. Auch haben die neuen Herausgeber viele Konjekturen älterer Editoren, hauptsächlich Reifferscheids, als erfolgreich bzw. fruchtbar anerkannt und beibehalten, während sie andere Eingriffe in den Text mit Recht rückgängig gemacht haben. Reinsch und Kambylis sind bei der Textherstellung insgesamt behutsam vorgegangen, d.h. sie haben sich davor gehütet, in den überlieferten Text einzugreifen, wenn er vertretbar schien. Wenn es hingegen notwendig war, haben sie glänzende Konjekturen erbracht. Insbesondere fällt hier die Leistung von Kambylis auf bei der Wiederherstellung des stark beeinträchtigten letzten Teils des 15. Buches, der nunmehr nahezu vollständig wiederhergestellt worden ist.
