Didactical reflexions on music teaching in early Socialism.Lada Duraković & Sabina Vidulin - 2023 - Metodicki Ogledi 30 (1):223-243.
The article analyzes textbooks and offers an insight into the didactical manuals written in early socialism. Textbooks of modest volume, published at the end of the forties and in the fifties of the last century, reflected the basic requirements of educational policy. The main goal of music education was to educate students to sing by notes. The publications were conceived as theoretical instructions for musical literacy. The first didactical manual written by Joža Požgaj was published, which in its revised version (...)

Normative and Islamic theology on the enforcement of COVID-19 health protocol in Indonesia.Anis Farida & Priyo Handoko - 2021 - HTS Theological Studies 77 (3):8.
This study aims to analyse the pros and cons of imposing penalties or fines in law enforcement regulations for violating health protocols in Indonesia. Some people consider that the norm of the fine sanctions in statutory provisions regulating health protocol violators is unconstitutional, but others say it is constitutional. As a country with the largest Muslim population in the world, a study of the perspective of Islamic law is essential. This article uses a normative legal research methodology using two main (...)

Private is (not) public: About Antigone’s mourning voice and its echo in Hegel and Kierkegaard.Lada Stevanovic - 2013 - Filozofija I Društvo 24 (1):254-272.
This paper presents a rereading of the interpretations of Antigone by Hegel and Kierkegaard on the grounds of research of Sophocles? text and its performance in Athenian theatre in the context of socio-political climate of the fifth century Athens. Focus is placed on the political aspect of theatre, as well as on the figure of Antigone, her voice and her action, which is the subject recognized by Hegel. However, what this interpretation lacks is the notion that Antigone is political and (...)

    Metamathematical Properties of a Constructive Multi-typed Theory.Farida Kachapova - 2017 - Studia Logica 105 (3):587-610.
This paper describes an axiomatic theory BT, which is a suitable formal theory for developing constructive mathematics, due to its expressive language with countable number of set types and its constructive properties such as the existence and disjunction properties, and consistency with the formal Church thesis. BT has a predicative comprehension axiom and usual combinatorial operations. BT has intuitionistic logic and is consistent with classical logic. BT is mutually interpretable with a so called theory of arithmetical truth PATr and with (...)

Using survey methodology we examined the relationships between commitment to moral self-improvement (CMSI), religiosity, ethical problem recognition, and behavioral intentions in a sample of 242 business students. Results of the study suggest that CMSI predicts ethical problem recognition and behavioral intentions. Our findings also suggest that CMSI is positively related to religiosity. The study provides some evidence of CMSI being a mediator in the influence of religiosity on ethical problem recognition and behavioral intentions. Compared to religiosity, CMSI turned out to (...)

    Multi-sorted version of second order arithmetic.Farida Kachapova - 2016 - Australasian Journal of Logic 13 (5).
This paper describes axiomatic theories SA and SAR, which are versions of second order arithmetic with countably many sorts for sets of natural numbers. The theories are intended to be applied in reverse mathematics because their multi-sorted language allows to express some mathematical statements in more natural form than in the standard second order arithmetic. We study metamathematical properties of the theories SA, SAR and their fragments. We show that SA is mutually interpretable with the theory of arithmetical truth PATr (...)

Public awareness of the problems of inclusion, as overcoming social inequality, is in the stage of formation in Ukraine and needs a socio-philosophical implementation. he main purpose of the article is to analyze the problem of social space of the city, which is convenient for the life of citizens with different set of opportunities, and the expediency of including disability as a social phenomenon in the broad philosophical context (...)

The author, whose principal occupation is teaching legal English, has created a Course on Language Aspects of English Contract for in-service lawyers. The course is aimed at teaching learners to understand and interpret English contracts written in traditional legal English and help them develop some drafting and redrafting techniques taking into account the modern tendency growing in (...)

The essay is an attempt to describe the ‘different’ personal life experience of the author. The problems of inclusion in the Ukrainian society of the Soviet period are touched upon and positive examples of inclusion at the present stage of formation of the civil society are given. The question was raised about the need for a philosophical analysis of the formation and functioning of the ’public sphere of disability’, the role and place of disabled people in modern Ukrainian society, as (...)

On Taking our Sources Seriously: Servius and the Theatrical Life of Vergil's Eclogues.Ismene Lada-Richards - 2019 - Classical Antiquity 38 (1):91-140.
This article revisits a famous staple of the Vergilian tradition, Servius's heavily contested scholion on the actress Volumnia Cytheris's theatrical rendition of Vergil's sixth Eclogue. By shifting the focus of inquiry from the strictly historical question ‘ did it happen?’ it cuts through, identifies and disentangles a nexus of prejudices which have led to the devaluing of Servius's information. The sidelining or dismissal of this piece of evidence, I argue, has more to teach us about our own culturally entrenched and (...)

This paper describes the possible compatibility of positions of the discussion participants on the current project of historical epistemology. The tension between descriptive and normative elements of this project is determined as one of the most important issue. I make an assumption of a philosophical nature of historical epistemology that does not detract from, but supports the historicity of thinking science.

    How Is Post-Normal Science Possible?Lada V. Shipovalova - 2022 - Epistemology and Philosophy of Science 59 (3):61-73.
The author starts from the contemporary image of “post-normal science”, which implies the openness of science to policy. She considers the idea of post-normal science as a normative basis for the scientists’ demand for the politicization of science, as a conceptual condition for grasping crises and the role of scientific expertise in their resolution, and as a designation of a special phenomenon of contemporary science with the ambiguous status of a scientist-expert. Based on the analysis of the concept, the author (...)

Not the least noticeable is the fact that the ancient Greek compound euthanasia, formed by Francis Bacon, has retained its original terminological form since it was first used in the 17th century. Among all other controversial ethical issues, however, the conceptual notion of euthanasia categorically evokes rather important controversies. The questions that arise in this context are whether there is a definition, or at least a determination, of the term euthanasia and whether we are aware of its use in scientific (...)

The paper also scrutinizes the case of representation of scientific researches by means of scientometrics methods. New technologies provide new forums for the expression and challenging of racism. This article explores the potential of an interactive blog about asylum-seekers to serve as part of the Habermasian ‘public sphere’, facilitating debate between those with opposing views. We offer evidence that pro- and anti-asylum seeker arguments made in blogs construct a binary between those in favour and those against. Arguments are collectively constructed producing relatively coherent discourses, despite being articulated by different individuals. We then explore the ways in (...)

Elephant motorbikes and too many neckties: epistemic spatialization as a framework for investigating patterns of bias in convolutional neural networks.Raymond Drainville & Farida Vis - forthcoming - AI and Society:1-15.
This article presents Epistemic Spatialization as a new framework for investigating the interconnected patterns of biases when identifying objects with convolutional neural networks. It draws upon Foucault’s notion of spatialized knowledge to guide its method of enquiry. We argue that decisions involved in the creation of algorithms, alongside the labeling, ordering, presentation, and commercial prioritization of objects, together create a distorted “nomination of the visible”: they harden the visibility of some objects, make other objects excessively visible, and consign yet others (...)
