The problem of the rightness of moral judgment is central for ethics. The main point of this article is Adam Smith´s answer to this problem. I am going to argue that Smith did not think that moral judgment depends on private sentiments, but on the judgment of the impartial spectator. I will defend that the smithian´s answer is beetwen the humean scepticism and the kantian criticism.

This article studies the relationship between philosophy and city in the works of Strauss and Machiavelli. It begins analyzing the Straussian interpretation of Machiavelli, without questioning its correctness. Two ways of understanding this relationship are compared: the Strauss’s way, according to which the Truth should be accessible only to few, and the republican way, for which the Truth should be accessible to all.
