    A quantitative examination of ethical dilemmas in public relations.Don W. Stacks & Donald K. Wright - 1989 - Journal of Mass Media Ethics 4 (1):53 – 67.
This research examined ethical responses of public relations preprofessionals to dilemmas they may face later in their careers. Subjects were required to respond to a request for information ordered suppressed by their employer. Results support earlier findings that students expect personal moral?ethical values to override organizational concerns. Implications of the findings are discussed.

It is about this. —Gertrude Stein Nachoem Wijnberg (1961) is a Dutch poet and novelist. He also a professor of cultural entrepreneurship and management at the Business School of the University of Amsterdam. Since 1989, he has published thirteen volumes of poetry and four novels, which, in my opinion mark a high point in Dutch contemporary literature. His novels even more than his poetry are (...)

continent. 1.4 (2011): 242—252. Introduction The following two works were produced by visual artist Jonas Staal and writer Vincent W.J. van Gerven Oei during a visit as artists in residence at The Bag Factory, Johannesburg, South Africa during the summer of 2010. Both works were produced in situ and comprised in both cases a public intervention conceived by Staal and a textual work conceived by Van Gerven Oei. It was their aim, in both cases, to produce complementary works that could (...)

Ethical problems in public accounting: The view from the top. [REVIEW]Don W. Finn, Lawrence B. Chonko & Shelby D. Hunt - 1988 - Journal of Business Ethics 7 (8):605 - 615.
The authors empirically examine the nature and extent of ethical problems confronting senior level AICPA members (CPAs) and examine the effectiveness of partner actions and codes of ethics in reducing ethical problems. The results indicate that the most difficult ethical problems (frequency reported) were: client requests to alter tax returns and commit tax fraud, conflict of interest and independence, client requests to alter financial statements, personal-professional problems, and fee problems. Analysis of attitudes toward ethics in the accounting profession indicated that (...)

    A look at tourism through a multi-dimensional model of public relations.Don Stacks - 2001 - World Futures 57 (5):481-493.
Tourism is examined from a public relations perspective aimed at focusing on multiple publics and multiple messages. Advancing upon an earlier proposed model for tourism proposed by Stacks (1995; Tilson and Stacks, 1997), this paper explores how public relations enters the ?integrated communications? mix by looking at American Airlines? penetration into the South American travel market as a case example of excellence in public relations in the travel industry.

    Protoalgebraic logics.W. J. Blok & Don Pigozzi - 1986 - Studia Logica 45 (4):337 - 369.
There exist important deductive systems, such as the non-normal modal logics, that are not proper subjects of classical algebraic logic in the sense that their metatheory cannot be reduced to the equational metatheory of any particular class of algebras. Nevertheless, most of these systems are amenable to the methods of universal algebra when applied to the matrix models of the system. In the present paper we consider a wide class of deductive systems of this kind called protoalgebraic logics. These include (...)

In this essay we discuss Tarski's work on what he calledthe methodology of the deductive sciences, or more briefly, borrowing the terminology of Hilbert, metamathematics, The clearest statement of Tarski's views on this subject can be found in his textbookIntroduction to logic[41m].1Here he describes the tasks of metamathematics as “the detailed analysis and critical evaluation of the fundamental principles that are applied in the construction of logic and mathematics”. He goes on to describe what these fundamental principles are: All the expressions (...)

  31. J. S. Mill on What We Don't Know About Women: G. W. Smith.G. W. Smith - 2000 - Utilitas 12 (1):41-61.
Mill's feminism has been attacked as being logically incoherent. The general verdict has been that Mill can easily be defended from the charge. However, both sides in the debate have ignored the fact that his feminism is part of a broader theory of liberal empiricism. Placing The Subjection of Women in this context re–opens the question of its logical credentials and reveals a basic weakness in Millian feminism.

    Autonomous processing in parallel distributed processing networks.Michael R. W. Dawson & Don P. Schopflocher - 1992 - Philosophical Psychology 5 (2):199-219.
This paper critically examines the claim that parallel distributed processing (PDP) networks are autonomous learning systems. A PDP model of a simple distributed associative memory is considered. It is shown that the 'generic' PDP architecture cannot implement the computations required by this memory system without the aid of external control. In other words, the model is not autonomous. Two specific problems are highlighted: (i) simultaneous learning and recall are not permitted to occur as would be required of an autonomous system; (...)

The empirical adequacy of cumulative prospect theory and its implications for normative assessment.Glenn W. Harrison & Don Ross - 2017 - Journal of Economic Methodology 24 (2):150-165.
Much behavioral welfare economics assumes that expected utility theory does not accurately describe most human choice under risk. A substantial literature instead evaluates welfare consequences by taking cumulative prospect theory as the natural default alternative, at least where description is concerned. We present evidence, based on a review of previous literature and new experimental data, that the most empirically adequate hypothesis about human choice under risk is that it is heterogeneous, and that where EUT does not apply, more choice is (...)

The suppression of sexuality is culturally widespread, and women’s sexual promiscuity, activity, and enjoyment are almost always judged and punished more harshly than men’s. It remains disputed, however, to what end people suppress sexuality, and who benefits from the suppression of female sexuality. Different theories predict that women in general, men in general, women’s intimate partners, or parents benefit most. Here we use the lies women and men tell—or imagine telling—about their sexual histories as an indirect measure of who is (...)
