Caregivers’ Sensemaking of Children’s Hereditary Angioedema: A Semiotic Narrative Analysis of the Sense of Grip on the Disease.Maria Francesca Freda, Livia Savarese, Pasquale Dolce & Raffaele De Luca Picione - 2019 - Frontiers in Psychology 10.
Background and aims. In pediatrics receiving a diagnosis of a chronic condition is a matter that involves caregivers at first. Beyond the basic issues of caring for the physical body of the ill child, caregivers’ manners of facing and making sense of the disease orient and co-construct their children’s sensemaking processes of the disease itself. The aim of this article is to explore the experience of a rare chronic illness, Hereditary Angioedema (HAE), in pediatrics, from the caregivers’ perspective. Hereditary Angioedema (...)

Injustice Perpetrated on the Dead.Linus Dolce - 2010 - The National Catholic Bioethics Quarterly 10 (4):667-676.
At a Body Worlds exhibition, human corpses are displayed as museum pieces for educational purposes. The bodies are preserved by plastination, a technique invented by Gunther von Hagens and engineered at the Institute for Plastination in Heidelberg, Germany. Because of the wide controversy surrounding the displays, it is necessary to study how justice obtains. Understood from a Thomistic perspective, the use of a plastinate by Body Worlds is unjust because it dishonors the donor. The goodness of that use fails in (...)

The role of quantum recurrence in superconductivity, carbon nanotubes and related gauge symmetry breaking.Donatello Dolce & Andrea Perali - 2014 - Foundations of Physics 44 (9):905-922.
Pure quantum phenomena are characterized by intrinsic recurrences in space and time. We use this intrinsic periodicity as a quantization condition to derive a heuristic description of the essential quantum phenomenology of superconductivity. The resulting description is based on fundamental quantum dynamics and geometrical considerations, rather than on microscopical characteristics of the superconducting materials. This allows us to investigate the related gauge symmetry breaking in terms of the competition between quantum recurrence and thermal noise. We also test the validity of (...)

Negative Affectivity, Authoritarianism, and Anxiety of Infection Explain Early Maladjusted Behavior During the COVID-19 Outbreak.Vincenzo Bochicchio, Adam Winsler, Stefano Pagliaro, Maria Giuseppina Pacilli, Pasquale Dolce & Cristiano Scandurra - 2021 - Frontiers in Psychology 12.
During the first phase of the COVID-19 outbreak, Italy experienced problems of public order and maladjusted behavior. This study assessed the role of negative affectivity, right-wing authoritarianism, and anxiety of COVID-19 infection in explaining a variety of the maladjusted behaviors observed with an Italian sample. Specifically, we examined the effect of Negative Affectivity and Right-Wing Authoritarianism on maladjusted behaviors, and the moderating role of anxiety of infection. Seven hundred and fifty-seven Italian participants completed an online survey between March 3rd to (...)

Compact Time and Determinism for Bosons: Foundations. [REVIEW]Donatello Dolce - 2011 - Foundations of Physics 41 (2):178-203.
Free bosonic fields are investigated at a classical level by imposing their characteristic de Broglie periodicities as constraints. In analogy with finite temperature field theory and with extra-dimensional field theories, this compactification naturally leads to a quantized energy spectrum. As a consequence of the relation between periodicity and energy arising from the de Broglie relation, the compactification must be regarded as dynamical and local. The theory, whose foundamental set-up is presented in this paper, turns out to be consistent with special (...)
