Integration of Heterogeneous Biological Data in Multiscale Mechanistic Model Calibration: Application to Lung Adenocarcinoma.Claudio Monteiro, Adèle L’Hostis, Jim Bosley, Ben M. W. Illigens, Eliott Tixier, Matthieu Coudron, Emmanuel Peyronnet, Nicoletta Ceres, Angélique Perrillat-Mercerot & Jean-Louis Palgen - 2022 - Acta Biotheoretica 70 (3):1-24.
Mechanistic models are built using knowledge as the primary information source, with well-established biological and physical laws determining the causal relationships within the model. Once the causal structure of the model is determined, parameters must be defined in order to accurately reproduce relevant data. Determining parameters and their values is particularly challenging in the case of models of pathophysiology, for which data for calibration is sparse. Multiple data sources might be required, and data may not be in a uniform or (...)

CERES in higher-order logic.Stefan Hetzl, Alexander Leitsch & Daniel Weller - 2011 - Annals of Pure and Applied Logic 162 (12):1001-1034.
We define a generalization of the first-order cut-elimination method CERES to higher-order logic. At the core of lies the computation of an set of sequents from a proof π of a sequent S. A refutation of in a higher-order resolution calculus can be used to transform cut-free parts of π into a cut-free proof of S. An example illustrates the method and shows that can produce meaningful cut-free proofs in mathematics that traditional cut-elimination methods cannot reach.

    Cut-Elimination: Syntax and Semantics.M. Baaz & A. Leitsch - 2014 - Studia Logica 102 (6):1217-1244.
In this paper we first give a survey of reductive cut-elimination methods in classical logic. In particular we describe the methods of Gentzen and Schütte-Tait from the abstract point of view of proof reduction. We also present the method CERES which we classify as a semi-semantic method. In a further section we describe the so-called semantic methods. In the second part of the paper we carry the proof analysis further by generalizing the CERES method to CERESD . In (...)

Responsible research and innovation (RRI) is a governance framework promoted by influential policy makers such as the European Commission and academics from the fields of science and technology studies and management. This book is the first text to serve industry. Inspired by existing Corporate Responsibility standards and principles, it offers a selection of tools that can assist practitioners in implementing RRI in business and industry. -/- Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) is integrative. Gluten ataxia is a rare immune-mediated neurological disorder caused by the ingestion of gluten. The diagnosis is not straightforward as antibodies are present in only up to 38% of patients, but often at lower titers. The symptoms of ataxia may be mild at the onset but lead to permanent damage if remain untreated. It is characterized by damage to the cerebellum however, the pathophysiology of the disease is not clearly understood. The present study investigated the neurochemical profile of vermis and (...)

The Anderson Station massacre highlights problems with both sovereignty's fragmentation and biopolitics. Sovereign entities have power over and determine the value of human life. Over and over, Belter life is reduced to bare life. They are exploited and then exterminated when their “usefulness” runs its course. What we often see in these reductions of Belters to bare life is the way that capitalism corrupts—both other sovereign entities and as a sovereign. In The Expanse, the problems with the uncontrolled capitalist sovereign (...)

Lucretius, Euripides and the Philosophers: De Rerum Natura 5.13–21.S. J. Harrison - 1990 - Classical Quarterly 40 (01):195-.
Here in the proem to his fifth book Lucretius is praising the philosophical achievements or discoveries of Epicurus through favourable comparison with other discoveries of traditional heroic or divine figures; first, in this passage, with the products of bread and wine associated with the gods Ceres and Liber , and later with the deeds of the god-hero Hercules. This technique clearly derives from the σγκρισις of formal rhetoric, one of the basic exercises through which composition was taught in ancient (...)

    Too Many Ablatives Spoil The Broth.E. J. Kenney - 1978 - Classical Quarterly 28 (2):471-472.
The orthodox explanation of the syntax of lines 453–4 is that repeated by the most recent commentator, F. Bömer, p.343): ‘neque adhuc epota parte ist Abl. absol.; der Gegenstand, mit dem Ceres den Jungen überschüttet, ist mixta … polenta.‘ The ablative absoluteis in itself unexceptionable, but the proliferation of three ablatives in two verses is awkward writing. As transmitted, line 454 is the product of a copyist who, as is often the habit of copyists, was confininghis attention to the (...)

    Art Restoration and Its Contextualization.David A. Scott - 2017 - Journal of Aesthetic Education 51 (2):82-104.
Art restoration has been around as long as human beings have been involved with artifacts and works of art. Pliny mentions the Shrine of Ceres in the Circus Maximus at Rome.1 When the shrine was undergoing restoration, the embossed work of the walls was cut out and enclosed in framed panels, and figures were taken from the pediment and dispersed. Alteration, or the lack of it, clearly impacts the aesthetic appreciation of works of art, and the hermeneutics of that (...)

Adresowany do polskiego czytelnika, umożliwia mu zorientowanie się w podstawowych relacjach i różnicach między filozofią i psychologią ekologiczną a teoriami projektowania, głównie na przykładzie pionierskiej propozycji Jamesa Gibsona i koncepcji Donalda Normana, w pewnym odniesieniu do szerszego kontekstu.

Some researchers have argued that firms with favorable environmental performance are more likely to provide voluntary environmental disclosure, while others have argued that firms with poor environmental performance are most likely to disclose. The authors propose a curvilinear relation between environmental performance and environmental disclosure that is moderated by visibility. Data were obtained from S&P 500 firms queried by the Ceres’ Climate Disclosure Project. Previous research provides mixed results on the relationship between corporate environmental performance and the level of voluntary environmental disclosure. We revisit this relation by testing competing predictions from defensive and accommodative approaches to voluntary disclosure with regard to climate change. In particular, we add to the prior literature by determining the extent to which environmental performance and company media visibility interact to prompt voluntary climate change disclosure. Using ordinal regression and Ceres, KLD, and Trucost ratings of S& P 500 (...)

The two versions of the myth of Ceres and Proserpina produced by Ovid at Fasti 4.417‒618 and Metamorphoses 5.341–661 have played an exceptionally important role for the knowledge and transmission of this episode in Western culture, from an anthropological and religious point of view but above all from an artistic and literary one. Nonetheless, the complexity of the two texts still confronts modern readers with questions and points to investigate. The present article, devoted specifically to the episode of the (...)
