Regulation of gene expression in developing epidermal epithelia.Carolyn Byrne - 1997 - Bioessays 19 (8):691-698.
Skin is one of the most thoroughly studied epithelia and can be used as a model for transcriptional control of epithelial differentiation. In particular, the stages of epidermal development and differentiation from a simple epithelium are well characterized. Temporal gene expression during development can be used to assign roles for transcription factors in epidermal differentiation. Approaches to understanding transcriptional regulation in epidermis include extensive promoter analysis and expression studies, in some cases coupled to functional studies.
