    Democracy, Constitutionalism, Modernity, Globalisation.Cheryl Saunders - 2021 - Jus Cogens 4 (1):11-23.
This essay is a contribution to a symposium on Madhav Khosla’s important book, India’s Founding Moment. It uses the book to reflect on the relevance of the story of the Indian founding to constitution making around the world in the twenty-first century. It explores this question through three themes that run through the book: people and process; the substance of constitutions; and global influences. In conclusion, I suggest that the principal value of the Indian example lies in its emphasis on (...)

Philosophy's Role in Psychopathology Back to Jaspers and an Appeal to Grow Practical.Chloe Saunders - 2024 - Philosophy, Psychiatry, and Psychology 31 (1):13-15.
In lieu of an abstract, here is a brief excerpt of the content:Philosophy's Role in Psychopathology Back to Jaspers and an Appeal to Grow PracticalThe author reports no conflicts of interest. In "Philosophy's role in theorizing psychopathology," Gibson presents a defense of the continued relevance of philosophy to psychopathology, and a non-exhaustive framework for the role of philosophy in this domain (Gibson, 2024). I find it hard to disagree that psychopathology is soaked in philosophy from its origins, and that to try (...)

Psychiatric Diagnosis as Recognition in Disorder Identified Individuals.Chloe Saunders - 2023 - Philosophy Psychiatry and Psychology 30 (3):263-277.
Psychiatric diagnoses are increasingly seen as viable categories around which self and social identities might be drawn. This introduces a new pressure on the “boundary problem” for psychiatry: when members of the public request diagnoses to affirm their self-identities how should we draw the line between mental disorder and normality? If psychiatrists have the authority to recognize and diagnose mental disorder, how can roles as diagnosers and gate-keepers be balanced in a post-stigma era of mental health care? Focusing on the (...)

Piloting PTWI—A Socio-Legal Window on Prosecutors' Assessments of Evidence and Witness Credibility.Paul Roberts & Candida Saunders - 2010 - Oxford Journal of Legal Studies 30 (1):101-141.
This article presents original empirical data generated from the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) Pilot Evaluation of pre-trial witness interviewing (PTWI) in England and Wales. Section 1 introduces the PTWI Pilot and describes the methodological strengths and limitations of our qualitative socio-legal study. Forming the richly documented empirical core of the article, Sections 2–5 identify the principal considerations which seemed to influence case selection for Pilot interviews. An overlapping collection of evidentiary, strategic and circumstantial factors encouraged prosecutors to resort to PTWI, (...)

On withholding nutrition and hydration in the terminally ill: has palliative medicine gone too far? A reply.R. J. Dunlop, J. E. Ellershaw, M. J. Baines, N. Sykes & C. M. Saunders - 1995 - Journal of Medical Ethics 21 (3):141-143.
Patients who are dying of cancer usually give up eating and then stop drinking. This raises ethical dilemmas about providing nutritional support and fluid replacement. The decision-making process should be based on a knowledge of the risks and benefits of giving or withholding treatments. There is no clear evidence that increased nutritional support or fluid therapy alters comfort, mental status or survival of patients who are dying. Rarely, subcutaneous fluid administration in the dying patient may be justified if the family (...)

The Relation of Aeneid III. to the Rest of the Poem.Catharine Saunders - 1925 - Classical Quarterly 19 (2):85-91.
From the time when Friedrich Conrads published1 the first systematic study of the method of composition employed by Vergil in the Aeneid it has been recogmzed that Bk. III. is especially involved in the contradictions existing between the various parts of the poem. It is not my purpose in this paper to attempt an exhaustive study of this aspect of Bk. III.; the industry of classical scholars in the last half-century renders needless further repetition of this sort. I wish merely (...)

Board members, corporate social responsiveness and profitability: Are tradeoffs necessary? [REVIEW]Hugh M. O'Neill, Charles B. Saunders & Anne Derwinski McCarthy - 1989 - Journal of Business Ethics 8 (5):353 - 357.
The relationship between corporate social responsiveness and profitability is investigated in a sample of corporate directors. The findings show there is no relationship between the level of director social responsiveness and corporate profitability. The implications of these results are discussed, especially as they relate to concerns about corporate governance.

    Alienation in corporate America: Fact or fable? [REVIEW]Charles B. Saunders, Hugh M. O'Neill & Oscar W. Jensen - 1986 - Journal of Business Ethics 5 (4):285-289.
Using NORC annual survey data, the authors selected 21 questions describing respondent attitudes toward job, life in general, and financial status. Respondents were catigorized as management, white collar, blue collar, and those not affiliated with business organizations. Attitudes were compared across the four occupational groups. Little dissatisfaction was found in any but the blue collar group. Management as a group, and men as well as women managers showed high levels of satisfaction, with few significant differences found in responses by men (...)
