Every independent country always celebrates or mark the day they were free from colonial rule in the form of “independence day celebrations”. The impression was that they were no longer slaves working under a colonial master. A fleeting glance at cultural markets reveals that despite other competing countries like India, China and Mexico, American culture dominates. This dependency on American products for arts, entertainment, dressing, and lifestyle changes in general is the major thrust of this paper. Law is a body of rules whether formal, written, informal or unwritten that are used to maintain relative peace and order in any given society. Before the advent of civilization, the Igbo people had their own legal system which though might look different in form from the western law but have the same purpose of guiding man into the state of oughtness.
