  1. The Influence of Parents’ Perception on Online Education and Training Brand Recognition.Biyun Xue & Ye Song - 2022 - Frontiers in Psychology 13.
At present, the academic education of Chinese students is basically public education, but the quality training is mainly handed over to the market for training. Therefore, China’s online education and training institutions have gradually developed under this demand. With the improvement of people’s living standards, families have higher and higher requirements for children’s education, expecting that children can be well improved in physical, mental and psychological aspects, and hoping that they will have their own advantages in the future competition. Therefore, (...)

Stealing Time on the Company’s Dime: Examining the Indirect Effect of Laissez-Faire Leadership on Employee Time Theft.Biyun Hu, Crystal M. Harold & Dayoung Kim - forthcoming - Journal of Business Ethics:1-19.
Employee time theft is a costly and prevalent unethical work behavior. Yet, this construct has received less attention compared to other unethical behaviors, and as such, the literature has only a rudimentary understanding of why employees engage in time theft. Thus, the primary goal of this research is to provide greater insight into both why employees engage in time theft and who is most likely to engage in time theft. To do so, we draw from social information processing theory to (...)

Yes, There Are Costs Of Change.Robin Hanson - unknown
Yes, relative to the status quo. But the role of health policy experts is not to say what policies we personally favor, but rather to make policy consequences clear to the public. Once we tell the public that such a policy would not much harm the health of the non-low-income, then it is up to them to decide if they want to use the savings to subsidize low-income coverage.

  12. Yes, but How Do You Know?: Introducing Philosophy Through Sceptical Ideas.Stephen Hetherington - 2009 - Broadview Press.
_Yes, But How Do You Know?_ is an invitation to think philosophically through the use of sceptical ideas. Hetherington challenges our complacency and asks us to reconsider what we think we know. How much can we discover about our surroundings? What sort of beings are we? Can we trust our own reasoning? Is science all it is cracked up to be? Can we acquire knowledge of God? Are even the contents of our own minds transparent? In inviting, lucid prose, Hetherington (...)

Certain information-seeking yes/no (yn)-questions –e.g. Did Jorge really bring a present? and Doesn’t John drink?– convey an epistemic bias of the speaker. Two main approaches to biased yn-questions are compared: the VERUM approach and the Decision Theory approach. It is argued that, while Decision Theory can formally characterize the notion of “intent” of a question, VERUM is needed to derive the data.

Different Modes of Describing Emotions in Chinese: Bodily Changes, Sensations, and Bodily Images.Zhengdao Ye - 2002 - Pragmatics and Cognition 10 (1):307-339.
This paper examines the different ways in which the body is linguistically codified in the Chinese language of emotions. The three general modes of emotion description under examination are via externally observable bodily changes, sensations, and figurative bodily images. While an attempt is made to introduce a typology of sub-categories within each mode of emotion description, the paper focuses on the meaning of different iconic descriptions through the Natural Semantic Metalanguage. On the one hand, the linguistic evidence, from a Chinese (...)

I evaluate the metaphysical plausibility of the non-naturalist view of moral properties. I will mainly concentrate my evaluation on the views of Shafer-Landau (henceforth just S-L) whose defence of moral non-naturalism is the most lucid and vigorous so far. I shall try to show its metaphysical problems and defend Jackson’s Occamist naturalism about moral properties which I consider to be more consistent with the supervenience platitude.

Saying 'Yes' and 'No' in Matters of Personal Taste.Filip Buekens - 2017 - Logique Et Analyse 60 (239):209 - 226.
This paper examines the communicative function of public pronouncements about what is tasty, agreeable or attractive, followed by an equally public endorsement or rejection. The typical and expected reaction to contributions like ‘This is tasty’ or ‘Roller coasters are fun’ in a conversational setting is not ‘how come?’ or ‘How do you know that?’, but a reply that reveals one’s own attitude towards an object or state of affairs. Judgements of taste are explored in the context of a cooperative view (...)

Rather than assume—based on the contents of the Nachlass—that the Eternal Recurrence, in its initial formulation, coheres with the later theoretico-metaphysical sense (i.e., sharing abstract space with the Will to Power) I propose the inverse (contrary to Heidegger, Deleuze, and Nehamas (whose Proustian exegesis (Nietzsche: Life as Literature) I’m obliged to radically extend)); namely, that the rotary cosmology of recurrence, as a literal proposition, is a consequence of the poetic sense of the earlier parable (GS)–which, I find, ultimately prefigures the (...)

PETER SAINT-ANDRE explores the personal meaning of progressive rock music and Rand's fiction as both consistent with a world-view that values "joy and reason and meaning." This exploration leads him to ask whether Rand's novels and philosophical project are progressive, and to urge further cross-pollination between libertarian and progressive thinking and action in politics and the arts.

Similarity Measure of Refined Single-Valued Neutrosophic Sets and Its Multicriteria Decision Making Method.Jun Ye & Florentin Smarandache - 2016 - Neutrosophic Sets and Systems 12:41-44.
This paper introduces a refined single-valued neutrosophic set (RSVNS) and presents a similarity measure of RSVNSs. Then a multicriteria decision-making method with RSVNS information is developed based on the similarity measure of RSVNSs. By the similarity measure between each alternative and the ideal solution (ideal alternative), all the alternatives can be ranked and the best one can be selected as well. Finally, an actual example on the selecting problems of construction projects demonstrates the application and effectiveness of the proposed method.

It’s a truism of philosophy that Realists must not postulate more than we could reasonably hope to know, while Anti-Realists must not leave us with so little that all knowledge is impossible. But balance is not easily come by—and even less in philosophy than in life. So philosophy continues to struggle over the hard cases, with neither the Realist nor the Anti-Realist able to score an easy victory.

In what does the sense of a sentential connective consist? Like many others, I hold that its sense lies in rules that govern deductions. In the present paper, however, I argue that a classical logician should take the relevant deductions to be arguments involving affirmative or negative answers to yes-or-no questions that contain the connective. An intuitionistic logician will differ in concentrating exclusively upon affirmative answers. I conclude by arguing that a well known intuitionistic criticism of classical logic fails if (...)

Open peer commentary on the article “A Computational Constructivist Model as an Anticipatory Learning Mechanism for Coupled Agent–Environment Systems” by Filipo Studzinski Perotto. Upshot: The CALM cognitive agent with its learning mechanism, as presented by the author, can be described as “trivially constructivist.” Probably, at best, it can be seen as a model of the empirical abstraction but not of the reflective abstraction. The “intrinsic motivations” in the simulated agent presented as “evaluative signals” sent from the agent’s “body” to its (...)

This will require, among other things, increasing class sizes in the elementary schools to thirty five students, and making major cuts in non-varsity sports, kindergartens, after-school programs, summer programs, and magnet, Montessori and gifted schools.
