Ist der Relativismus eine Herausforderung für die Rationalität von Philosophie, Wissenschaft und Kultur? Seit der Antike bis hin zu aktuellen philosophischen Debatten wird kontrovers diskutiert, ob die Relativierung von Geltungsansprüchen auf bestimmte Erkenntnisformen oder Deutungskontexte eine Gefahr für die Objektivität der Wahrheitsfrage darstellt, oder ob sie, genau umgekehrt, angesichts der heutigen Pluralität von Denkformen und Weltbildern ein angemessenes Vorgehen ist, das epistemische Bescheidenheit ausdrückt und die Tolerierung unvereinbarer Überzeugungen ermöglicht. Das vorliegende Buch ist die erste deutschsprachige Einführung in die komplexe (...) Thematik des Relativismus. Dabei geht es um den Begriff, die Entstehung und bekannte Entwürfe des Relativismus, um die Debatte über den Wahrheitsrelativismus, aber auch um das Verhältnis zwischen Pluralität, Toleranz und Relativismus. Der Autor vertritt eine kritische Position zu Spielarten des normativen Relativismus, hält sich aber auch von Auffassungen fern, die im Relativismus eine generelle Gefahr für unsere Kultur und Rationalität sehen. Hick’s religious pluralism has been a matter of philosophical de­bate for more than two decades. Until recently, the philosophical framework of Hick’s pluralism has elicited a wide range of philosophical criticism. In this paper, I specify three core claims of Hick’s concept pertaining to the philosophical framework of his pluralism that have been under intensive discussion so far: Firstly, the epistemological claim that all exclusive religious truth claims have to be de-emphasised. Secondly, the methodological claim that Hick’s pluralism must be (...) understood as a meta-theory and not as a first-order theory such as, for example, exclusivism. Thirdly, the metaphysical claim that no substantial properties can be ascribed to the noumenal and therefore transcategorial divine reality. I examine these three claims and reconsider Hick’s responses to philosophical objections to these claims. I argue that Hick is not successful in his defense. A reconsideration of these problems shows that all three pluralist claims remain neither compelling nor consistent. (shrink)

In der aktuellen Hochschuldidaktik gibt es eine internationale Debatte um eine Wende von einem instruierenden zu einem partizipativen Lehrstil . Im vorliegenden Beitrag soll die Relevanz einer solchen Wende für die Lehre des Fachs „Philosophie" innerhalb des Studiums der Theologie untersucht werden. Vordergründig scheint dieser „shift" für die Lehre der Philosophie insofern gar nicht notwendig zu sein, als der Diskurs als primärer Lernort des Philosophierens ein monologisches Lehrkonzept von vornherein ausschließt und man - hinsichtlich eines klassischen Modells - nicht die (...) Philosophie, sondern nur das Philosophieren lehren und lernen kann. Da dieses Verständnis jedoch in der Praxis leicht zu einer Überforderung für Lernende und Lehrende führen kann, plädiere ich für einen Mittelweg zwischen einer opportunistischen Kontinuierung des Instruktionsmodells und einer zwanghaften Implementierung des Partizipationsmodells.In recent university didactics there is an ongoing debate about a „Shift from Teaching to Learning", which means a shift from an instructing to a learning and more participative teaching paradigm. This paper analyses the relevance and the implications of that shift for the teaching of philosophy within the study of theology. It would appear, at first, that a change of paradigm does not seem to be necessary for the discipline of philosophy, which is seen, classically, not as a monological instruction of theories, but as a discursive and critical way of exchanging ideas and conceptions. However, this concept might lead to an overtaxing of students and university lecturers in the academic practice. Therefore, I plead in this article for a middle course between an opportunistic continuation of the Instruction Paradigm and a compulsive implementation of the Learning Paradigm. (shrink)

Welche Herausforderung stellt der Relativismus für den christlichen Wahrheitsanspruch dar? Gelten Glaubensüberzeugungen bloß relativ für die christliche Gemeinschaft oder sind sie universal ausgerichtet? Ist der Relativismus eine Bedrohung für die christliche Botschaft oder ist er ein Indiz für religiöse Toleranz und die Bejahung von Pluralität? Diesen gesellschaftlich hoch relevanten Fragen gehen die Beiträger dieses Buches nach.

Faced by the challenge of religious plurality, most philosophers of religion view pluralism and exclusivism as the most accepted and fully developed positions. The third alternative, the model of inclusivism, held especially within the Catholic tradition, has not received adequate attention in the debates in philosophy of religion, perhaps as it is based solely on theological grounds. In this essay I offer a philosophical defense of the position of religious inclusivism and give reasons why this position represents the most appropriate (...) position in the face of conflicting religious truth claims.
