    Law as a System of Rights: A Critical Perspective.Azadeh Chalabi - 2014 - Human Rights Review 15 (2):117-138.
The “rhetorical incorporation of human rights terminology” into domestic law is the central concern of this article. Over the last 20 years or so, countries have faced international pressure to conform to human rights standards in order to enjoy legitimacy. However, there is a huge gap between what is legalized as “human rights” in domestic laws and what is set forth as “human rights” in international human rights instruments. Based on this presupposition that a proper incorporation of human rights on (...)

Using Mobile Devices for Vocabulary Learning Outside the Classroom: Improving the English as Foreign Language Learners’ Knowledge of High-Frequency Words.Azadeh Rahmani, Vahid Asadi & Ismail Xodabande - 2022 - Frontiers in Psychology 13.
The present study investigated the impacts of mobile assisted vocabulary learning via digital flashcards. The data were collected from 44 adult English as Foreign Language learners in three intact classes in a private language teaching institute in Iran, randomly assigned to experimental and control learning conditions. The experimental group used a freely available DF application to learn items from a recently developed corpus-based word list for high-frequency vocabulary in English. The treatment was implemented as out-of-the-classroom learning activities where the EFL (...)

    Neurofilaments and neurological disease.Ammar Al-Chalabi & Christopher C. J. Miller - 2003 - Bioessays 25 (4):346-355.
Neurofilaments are one of the major components of the neuronal cytoskeleton and are responsible for maintaining the calibre of axons. They are modified by post‐translational changes that are regulated in complex fashions including by the interaction with neighbouring glial cells. Neurofilament accumulations are seen in several neurological diseases and neurofilament mutations have now been associated with Charcot‐Marie‐Tooth disease, Parkinson's disease and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. In this review, we discuss the structure, normal function and molecular pathology of neurofilaments. BioEssays 25:346–355, 2003. (...)

Vom Standpunkt des Erkennens: Nietzsches Philosophie des Perspektivismus.Azadeh Ataeian - 2013 - Berlin: LIT.

The media's presentation of human rights during the financial crisis: framing the 'issues'.Mona Chalabi - 2010 - Journal of Global Ethics 6 (3):255-272.
As forms of employment and migration changed, the financial crisis which began in 2007 affected the human rights of individuals, particularly those in developing countries. How the media reported on these consequences is essential in understanding how and why public and political perceptions of the importance of human rights may have changed since the crisis began. Using quantitative and qualitative analysis of major newspapers in the UK and the USA, this paper seeks to understand the ways in which the media (...)

Thinking Tools: Gestures Change Thought About Time.Barbara Tversky & Azadeh Jamalian - 2021 - Topics in Cognitive Science 13 (4):750-776.
Our earliest tools are our bodies. Our hands raise and turn and toss and carry and push and pull, our legs walk and climb and kick allowing us to move and act in the world and to create the multitude of artifacts that improve our lives. The list of actions made by our hands and feet and other parts of our bodies is long. What is more remarkable is we turn those actions in the world into actions on thought through (...)

Can Corporate Divestiture Activities Lead to Better Corporate Social Performance?Shih-chi Chiu & Azadeh Sabz - 2022 - Journal of Business Ethics 179 (3):849-866.
Prior research showed that corporate divestitures could help firms restore their strategic controls and long-term focus. This suggests that divestiture activities may have implications for firms’ commitment to corporate social responsibility following divestitures. Drawing from the attention-based view of the firm, we examine this underexplored yet important research question. We propose that firms’ divestiture scale is positively associated with their commitment to post-divestiture CSR. However, this relationship is weakened among firms facing pre-restructuring financial decline and selling more related businesses, but (...)

Le mal et la symbolique: Ricœur lecteur de Freud.Azadeh Thiriez-Arjangi, Geoffrey Dierckxsens, Michael Funk Deckard & Andrés Bruzzone (eds.) - 2022 - De Gruyter.
The contributions in this book address the relation between evil, symbolism and psychoanalysisc by focusing on the two works of Riœur in which these topics play the most prominent role: The Symbolism of Evil and Freud and Philosophy. Furthermore, the bilingual book includes contributions that examine the relation between evil, symbolism and psychoanalysis in Ricœur’s work in a more general fashion, by investigating his philosophy as a whole. It brings together both French and English chapters from leading Ricœur scholars from (...)

In continuation of [JOH04, OH07], we prove that existentially closed CSA-groups have the independence property. This is done by showing that there exist words having the independence property relative to the class of torsion-free hyperbolic groups.

BackgroundThe relatively young and inexperienced healthcare professionals in Mongolia faced with an unprecedent service demand in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Due to the small size of the healthcare workforce the Mongolian Health Ministry had no choice but to mandate continuous and long workhours from the healthcare workforce. Many of the healthcare professionals exhibited signs and symptoms of mental health disorders. This study aimed to discern the prevalence various mental health concerns, i.e., depression, anxiety and stress, insomnia, and to discern (...)

Social Robotics, Education, and Religion in the Islamic World: An Iranian Perspective.Minoo Alemi, Alireza Taheri, Azadeh Shariati & Ali Meghdari - 2020 - Science and Engineering Ethics 26 (5):2709-2734.
The social impact of robotics applied to domains such as education, religion, nursing, and therapy across the world depends on the level of technology as well as the culture in which it is used. By studying how robots are used in Iran, a technologically-savvy country with a long history and a rich culture, we explore their possible impact on interrelated areas of religious and ethical features in education in an Islamic society. To accomplish this task, a preliminary exploratory study was (...)

    The Place of Fuḍayl Chalābī’s ad-Ḍamānāt fī al-furūʻ al-Ḥanafīyyah in Compensation Literature.Kamil Yelek - 2020 - Cumhuriyet İlahiyat Dergisi 24 (1):297-320.
The law of responsibility (compensation), which was formed around the concept of the ḍamān and was developed by the scholars within the system of furû‘ al-fiqh (substantive law) over time, constitutes one of the important parts of Islamic law. Although compensation law (ḍamān) was not addressed as a private subject in the first period fiqh literature, it is seen that the literature on this specific area started to emerge after the early period. It is the Hanafi jurists who first brought (...)

    Mâtürîdî-Hanefî Aidiyetin Osmanlı’daki İzdüşümleri = Projections of Māturīdite-Ḥanafite Identity on the Ottomans.Mehmet Kalaycı - 2016 - Cumhuriyet İlahiyat Dergisi 20 (2):9-70.
Māturīdism is an Ottoman identity and this identity was not limited, as is commonly believed, to the last period of the Empire. It maintained its formal existence throughout the Ottoman history. Nevertheless, the context in which the Māturīdism was located or with which it was associated changed in the course of time. In the early period when the eclectic way of thinking was dominant, Māturīdism as a creed was apparent mainly in the jurists whose ascetic identity was prominent and partly (...)

    Rumi's Plato: Between Reason and Rapture.Cyrus Masroori - 2020 - Philosophy East and West 70 (4):999-1021.
The first name mentioned in Rumi's1 masterpiece, the Masnavi is Plato: Love is the cure for our arrogance and wickedness; it is our Plato and Galen. Given that virtually all books written by medieval Muslims start with "in the name of God" and the praising of the Prophet Muhammad, Rumi's deviation from that tradition is in itself intriguing. Further, knowing Rumi's deep and unwavering devotion to Shams Tabrizi, why is he not mentioned before Plato, particularly in a book aiming at (...)
