The Legal and Ethical Status of Children in Health Care in the UK.Rosario Baxter, Ann Long & David Sines - 1998 - Nursing Ethics 5 (3):189-199.
Ethical issues about children’s rights in respect of matters concerning resource allocation or treatment opportunities are now a matter for public consumption and concern. Alongside this exists a long-frustrated desire by children’s nurses to promote children’s health. Long-held assumptions about the legal and moral status of children within the health care system in this country are now rightly scrutinized and challenged. Those of us who claim to represent children now possess an opportunity to exploit public attention for the benefit of (...)

Stigmatization and Interpersonal Deviance Behaviors of Tour Guides: The Influence of Self-Identity Threat and Moral Disengagement.Aimin Deng, Wenxing Liu, Anna Long, Yanghao Zhu & Kai Gao - 2022 - Frontiers in Psychology 13.
Severe tour guide stigma is a significant problem hindering tourism development. Based on self-identity threat and moral disengagement theory, this study analyzed the relationship between tour guide stigmatization and tour guides’ interpersonal deviance behavior. Survey data collected from 241 tour guides at three different points in time showed that tour guide stigmatization was positively related to tour guides’ interpersonal deviance behavior and that self-identity threat mediated this effect. The results also show that moral disengagement moderated the effect of tour guides’ (...)

This article is designed to explore and examine the key components of communication that emerged during the interactional analysis of a role play that took place in the classroom. The ‘actors’ were nurses who perceived the interaction to reflect an everyday encounter in a hospital ward. Permission to tape the interaction was sought and given by all persons involved. The principal ‘players’ in the scenario were: the patient, a 70-year-old-woman who had been admitted with dementia, her son and daughter, and (...)

Making God: A New Materialist Theory of the Person.Ann Long - 2007 - Imprint Academic.
The great teachers of the Axial Age — the Buddha, Confucius, Zoroaster, the Hebrew prophets right down to Jesus — began the making of the modern God. They re-made their inherited gods, creating a personal God in their own image. We may best celebrate them, not by clinging to their creation but by emulating their work. Developments in psychology mean that our view of persons is unlike theirs, and therefore the God they made can no longer serve as ours. We (...)
