Human Detection Using Partial Least Squares Analysis.W. R. Schwartz, Aniruddha Kembhavi, David Harwood, L. S. Davis, A. V. Williams Building & College Park - 2009 - Analysis.
Significant research has been devoted to detecting people in images and videos. In this paper we describe a human de- tection method that augments widely used edge-based fea- tures with texture and color information, providing us with a much richer descriptor set. This augmentation results in an extremely high-dimensional feature space (more than 170,000 dimensions). In such high-dimensional spaces, classical machine learning algorithms such as SVMs are nearly intractable with respect to training. Furthermore, the number of training samples is much (...)

    Elsewheres in Queer Hindutva: A Hijra Case Study.Aniruddha Dutta - 2023 - Feminist Review 133 (1):11-25.
In July 2021, a series of gruesome videos exposed a case of brutal torture perpetrated by a guru or leader of the trans feminine hijra community in eastern India. This guru was allegedly of a Bangladeshi Muslim background, and various community members used the case as an alibi to target hijras of such national and religious origin, sometimes even demanding their expulsion from India. This phenomenon paralleled increasing affiliations between certain sections of trans/hijra communities and the Hindu Right. This article (...)

Continuity postulates and solvability axioms in economic theory and in mathematical psychology: a consolidation of the theory of individual choice.Aniruddha Ghosh, M. Ali Khan & Metin Uyanık - 2022 - Theory and Decision 94 (2):189-210.
This paper presents four theorems that connect continuity postulates in mathematical economics to solvability axioms in mathematical psychology, and ranks them under alternative supplementary assumptions. Theorem 1 connects notions of continuity (full, separate, Wold, weak Wold, Archimedean, mixture) with those of solvability (restricted, unrestricted) under the completeness and transitivity of a binary relation. Theorem 2 uses the primitive notion of a separately continuous function to answer the question when an analogous property on a relation is fully continuous. Theorem 3 provides (...)

Memory, Modernity, Repetition: Walter Benjamin's History.Aniruddha Chowdhury - 2008 - Telos: Critical Theory of the Contemporary 2008 (143):22-46.
In an important fragment in The Arcades Project, Walter Benjamin points to two perspectives on the present. The present is defined either as catastrophe or as triumph.1 Two perspectives, Benjamin seems to suggest, constitute two modes of temporality. Whereas for a triumphant history, the present is located in the duration of time that Benjamin famously calls “homogeneous, empty time,”2 in the movement of the same, for the historiography of the oppressed, on the other hand—and that is how Benjamin sees the (...)

The Genes of Life and Death: A Potential Role for Placental-Specific Genes in Cancer.Erin C. Macaulay, Aniruddha Chatterjee, Xi Cheng, Bruce C. Baguley, Michael R. Eccles & Ian M. Morison - 2017 - Bioessays 39 (11):1700091.
The placenta invades the adjacent uterus and controls the maternal immune system, like a cancer invades surrounding organs and suppresses the local immune response. Intriguingly, placental and cancer cells are globally hypomethylated and share an epigenetic phenomenon that is not well understood – they fail to silence repetitive DNA sequences that are silenced in healthy somatic cells. In the placenta, hypomethylation of retrotransposons has facilitated the evolution of new genes essential for placental function. In cancer, hypomethylation is thought to contribute (...)

The emergence of a group of four characters (vāsudeva, saṃkarṣaṇa, pradyumna, and aniruddha) in the harivaṃśa: Points for consideration. [REVIEW]André Couture - 2006 - Journal of Indian Philosophy 34 (6):571-585.
There are good reasons to think that Vāsudeva, Saṃkarṣaṇa, Pradyumna and Aniruddha already form a sort of implicit tetrad in the HV. The aim of this paper is to draw attention to often overlooked data related to this tetrad. (1) Upon first reading, the sequence of the HV episodes appears to be somewhat disconnected, and might lead one to conclude that no such grouping of these figures had as of yet taken place. Nevertheless, a closer look at the structure (...)

  14. Quantum mechanics and retrocausality.David Atkinson - manuscript
The classical electrodynamics of point charges can be made finite by the introduction of effects that temporally precede their causes. The idea of retrocausality is also inherent in the Feynman propagators of quantum electrodynamics. The notion allows a new understanding of the violation of the Bell inequalities, and of the world view revealed by quantum mechanics. Published in The Universe, Visions and Perspectives, edited by N. Dadhich and A. Kembhavi, Kluwer Academic Publishers, 2000, pages 35-50.
