The aim of our study was to investigate the effects of a small therapeutic animal on the social behavior of nine autistic children. The social contacts of the autistic children were evaluated by a descriptive method of direct observation that was performed without and with the presence of a TA. In period one, contacts with an unfamiliar person and acquaintances were registered; in period two, contacts with the acquaintances and the TA were registered. The frequency of contacts of autistic children (...) with their acquaintances significantly increased in the presence of the TA . The frequency of contacts with the TA was significantly higher than the frequency of contacts with the UP . The form of the autistic children’s contacts with A, with the UP, and with the TA was individually dependent, and the presence of the TA changed the characteristics of contacts with A. Our results indicate that the presence of a small TA can positively influence the quantity and quality of the social behavior of autistic children and that the characteristics of social contacts were dependent on the individual. In sensible reality, we often speak of the “untouchable,” the “invisible,” the “inaudible,” and the “untastable.” In the abstract realm, we speak of the “non-conceptual,” the “ineffable,” the “unsayable.” These are the modalities of the ungraspable that are explored in this study.

Lyric Philosophy: To Think by Experiencing an Echo of Meaning The study aims to present and shed light on lyric philosophy, a philosophical orienta- tion established by the Canadian philosopher Jan Zwicky. It does so in several steps. First, it presents the central idea of the existence of nonverbal lyric thinking and the experiencing of lyric practice in the framework of which the meaning of this world and its individual parts is to be shown to us. It then illustrates these (...) theses by present- ing the two main inspirations of lyric philosophy – the philosophy of Ludwig Wittgen- stein and gestaltism. It also brings nearer the relationship between lyric philosophy and the philosophical method that is reduced to thinking in words with the help of logical categories. It then focuses on the communication of meaning through meta- phorical expression, which Zwicky considers to be a sort of “window” in the “wall” between us and the meaning through which we are able to see meaning. Finally, the study considers lyric philosophy’s problematic areas and relationship with the philo- sophical tradition and makes an attempt to outline its potential for philosophical re- search in general. The paper examines the book Martin Buber’s Theopolitics and analyzes the conflict between the hierarchy in nature and in human society. Buber qualifies our relations to nature and to other non-living objects as darker than human relations. This creates an imbalance between the human You and the other type of You. This reflection allows us to think about the meaning of the principle of humanity in relation to personhood, and in relation to different forms of communities (natural, or inorganic communities). (...) It is an important question in the light of “conflicts” and tensions created by the environmental crisis we are facing today. In this paper, I explore Derrida’s concept of exteriorization in relation to texts generated by machine learning. I first discuss Heidegger’s view of machine creation and then present Derrida’s criticism of Heidegger. I explain the concept of iterability, which is the central notion on which Derrida’s criticism is based. The thesis defended in the paper is that Derrida’s account of iterability provides a helpful framework for understanding the phenomenon of machine learning–generated literature. His account of textuality highlights the incalculability and (...) mechanical elements characteristic of all texts, including machine-generated texts. By applying Derrida’s concept to the phenomenon of machine creation, we can deconstruct the distinction between human and non-human creation. As I propose in the conclusion to this paper, this provides a basis on which to consider potential positive uses of machine learning. (shrink)

These are to be considered as three modalities of the ungraspable language that enable us to understand Derrida’s attitude to negative theology. Our aim is to examine ironical intertextual references and metalanguage in the movies of Woody Allen. The first part of the paper is devoted to intertextuality. To begin with, we specify the notion of intertextuality. Consequently, we provide certain typology of intertextual references, which takes its inspiration from Gérard Genette and Denis Fortin. Finally, we use this typology in investigating the phenomenon of intertextuality in Allen’s movies. The remaining part of the paper focuses on metalanguage. Again, we specify the crucial (...) notion, the notion of metalanguage. This part is inspired mostly by Patricia Waugh’s work on metafiction. We introduce the distinction between embedded stories and metafiction. Subsequently, we examine their occurrences in Allen’s movies. (shrink)

Laws set requirements that force organizations to assess the security and privacy of their IT systems and impose them to implement minimal precautionary security measures. Several IT solutions (e.g., Privacy Enhancing Technologies, Access Control Infrastructure, etc.) have been proposed to address security and privacy issues. However, understanding why, and when such solutions have to be adopted is often unanswered because the answer comes only from a broader perspective, accounting for legal and organizational issues. Security engineers and legal experts should analyze (...) the business goals of a company and its organizational structure and derive from there the points where security and privacy problems may arise and which solutions best fit such (legal) problems.
