Drawing on Merleau-Ponty’s hypothesis about transcendental geology in the final phase of his work, this article examines the debate about the Anthropocene from the perspective of philosophy of history. Firstly, we follow the author through the preliminary materials for The Visible and The Invisible by situating transcendental geology within the book’s complex theoretical architecture, and by foregrounding the necessity of rethinking the notion of Earth through the reading that the French philosopher offers of Husserl’s phenomenology. We will thus focus on (...) the theme of the overturning of the Copernican doctrine in an ethico-practical perspective, showing that Merleau-Ponty’s ecology can be considered a philosophical ecology ante litteram. Finally, drawing on the hypothesis proposed by historians Bonneuil and Fressoz, the essay will attempt to highlight the relevance of Merleau-Ponty’s practical thought for the debate about the Anthropocene. In 1920s Russia domestic life is the object of a specific political debate that tries to formulate housing forms and comfort models alternative to the one of the bourgeois house. By analysing the texts written by Fourier, Engels and Russian functionalist architects and the discourses that accompany USSR housing policies, the article reconstructs the concepts of comfort underlying this debate and their functions.

Living the threshold: Simondon and the living individuation Describing the evolution of the individual from the physical to the vital individuation, from the psychic to the collective individuation, the article aims at reconstructing Simondon’s theory of the individual with which the philosopher shows how the subject is a never-ending process of individuation that emerges from a pre-individual field that makes individuation itself possible.

L’articolo si propone di offrire un contributo alla riflessione sul concetto dell’abitare nell’accezione heideggeriana. Tale principio trova il suo fondamento nello spirito poetante e viene qui sviluppato a partire dal richiamo al “poeticamente abita l’uomo” di Hölderlin. L’elemento poetico dell’abitare, quale tratto essenziale dell’esserci, secondo la tesi heideggeriana, è esperienza originaria da cui si ricava l’invito a una nuova forma di pensiero: un “pensiero poetante”. Il parlare poetico presenta una sua specifica rilevanza in questa direzione, risalendo a una (...) messa in opera della verità in cui risuona la provenienza della dif-ferenza tra essere ed ente nel ritmo originario di apertura e nascondimento. Solo l’uomo poetante, comunicatore per eccellenza, può giungere all’originario abitare e toccare il divino, il sacro, disponendosi all’autorivelazione dell’essere secondo l’immagine della quadratura (Geviert) in cui le quattro voci (cielo, terra, divini, mortali) sono un tutt’uno rilucente al cospetto del suo dire. Lungi dal ripiombare nel linguaggio della metafisica, piuttosto col proposito di rinnovarla, Heidegger assegna alla parola poetica, in quanto misura del nostro dimorare, il ruolo di fondamento ontologico da cui si effonde l’evento e l’apertura dell’essere. La città, risultato della storia, della cultura e della civiltà, si presenta a noi, a un primo impatto, come un’esaltazione dell’edificare in un gioco delle forme e dei volumi, o come una glorificazione dell’architettura; in un secondo momento viene percepita anche come un segno delle comunità e dell’appartenenza di cui le forme sono il riflesso. Si profila, a ben ragionare sul suo significato, dall’antichità alla modernità, un composito fare umano, il disegno straordinario dell’azione collettiva e dei singoli, l’effetto di un’arte (...) dello spazio esteso. Esso interagisce con ciò che si chiama l’arte del paesaggio, perché propone elementi della cura, dell’immaginazione e della progettazione, i segni della fantasia e le creazioni della necessità. Allo stesso modo di un’attività dove l’uomo è creatore di coltivazioni, si può dire infatti che esista un’arte della città come prodotto delle comunità e dei singoli, degli architetti e degli artisti, dei progettisti e dei semplici lavoratori, dei cittadini e dei loro rappresentanti politici: risultato di uno sforzo ideale e civile, ma anche di un concreto, sfaccettato manifestarsi delle tecniche nello spazio, modellato anche, volta a volta, da quel certo gruppo sociale o dalle ideologie. Nell’intento di dare risposta a questi interrogativi la riflessione attraversa il pensiero di alcuni tra i maggiori filosofi del Novecento, secondo un (...) orientamento fenomenologico che prende le mosse dall’esperienza vissuta.Is it possible to “intentionally” pursue the hope or is it an inner attitude beyond anyone’s will? And if it derives from a research, can it be transmitted, aroused? Can it be declined as a practice to be followed in a helping relationship? Is it realistic to consider the capacity of disclosing new possibilities of living a meaningful as a professional skill in care job?The intention of giving an answer to these questions crosses the beliefs of some of the greatest philosophers of the twentieth century, in compliance with a phenomenological orientation taking its moves from lived experience. This article explores the forms of housing and living of the subaltern classes in the French urban context of the early 19th century affected by the social consequences of the Industrial Revolution. It focuses on the social representations and discourses developed by the liberal elites in order to retrace the genesis of the concepts of “domestic comfort” and “public hygiene”. Notas de un viaje a Oriente, el Diario del Crucero por el Mediterráneo que realizó el joven Julián Marías en 1933, durante sus años de estudio en la Facultad de Filosofía de la Universidad Central de Madrid, que constituye la reedición en tiempos recientes de su primer texto publicado, ha merecido algunas reseñas académicas. Este artículo se propone analizar, primeramente, hasta qué punto el joven Marías había ya interiorizado a sus 19 años la técnica filosófica aprendida de su maestro Ortega (...) y Gasset, reflejada en su manera de mirar la realidad y estructurarla metafísicamente, así como en su propio estilo, animado espléndidamente por la metáfora. Se mostrará asimismo cómo los temas principales de las Notas enlazan con los desarrollos posteriores. Hay un hilo de continuidad entre la manera de comprender la herencia helénica aquí y lo escrito en su obra Historia de la filosofía, así como lo hay entre su reflexión juvenil sobre la temporalidad con la de Antropología metafísica. Pensar Europa filosóficamente hoy no constituye un intento de definición y representación de una identidad cultural con carácter unívoco y, menos aún, de una identidad política que, por siglos, ha sido siempre parcial y ha estado entretejida con imágenes y prácticas diferentes y plurales. Lo que hay que replantear y recolocar en el centro es su carácter dialéctico, su continuo saltar (la aptitud acrobática de la que hablaba Ortega) y oscilar entre razón y pasiones, lógica e instinto, progreso y decadencia, (...) libertad y totalitarismo, entre el reconocimiento del otro y del diverso como voluntad de apertura a lo nuevo y la reivindicación de una civilización eurocéntrica que objetivamente ha sentado las bases de la modernidad. This study presents some observations related to a phenomenological-based research aimed to document the influence of the home environment on the human creative sphere. The main objective is to study the links between literary creation and housing of the individual who is generating it, with the aim to highlight some recurrences which make it possible to show how the relationship of writers and “creative people” with their own homes reveals the presence of special “psychological types”. We are presenting here only (...) one example for each of these main “types”. The phenomenological discipline records every single experience as irreducible to a objectified science, but does not deny that it could establish a set of examples from which to draw intersubjective considerations. We studied, therefore, a large number (cases) of experiential reports, without, as claimed by Brentano and Husserl in Crisis of European Sciences, abstracting an objective fact, but recurrences of experience. The research has been carried out with some students of the Polytechnic of Milan in recent years. The purpose of this analysis is also to record the ways in which a place is influencing individual sensibility (mainly of writers) through the analysis of his works, and to highlight “recurrent types” in relation to this connection.
