  2. Making Sense of Whistle-Blowing's Antecedents: Learning from Research on Identity and Ethics Programs.Abhijeet K. Vadera, Ruth V. Aguilera & Brianna B. Caza - 2009 - Business Ethics Quarterly 19 (4):553-586.
ABSTRACT:Despite a significant increase in whistle-blowing practices in work organizations, we know little about what differentiates whistle-blowers from those who observe a wrongdoing but chose not to report it. In this review article, we first highlight the arenas in which research on whistle-blowing has produced inconsistent results and those in which the findings have been consistent. Second, we propose that the adoption of an identity approach will help clarify the inconsistent findings and extend prior work on individual-level motives behind whistle-blowing. (...)

Mental Integrations as Functional Wholes.Abhijeet Melkani - 2021 - Journal of Ayn Rand Studies 21 (1):56-64.
It is argued that a mental integration is formed only if the result is a functional whole. This idea is then used to clarify the definition of a concept and discuss problems in which an instance may belong to different conceptual classes depending on the context. The same idea is also applied to the rules for dealing with an entity when it is formed out of sub-entities. Specific examples of how such rules are frequently violated in literature as well as (...)

The Evolution of Vocabularies and Its Relation to Investigation of White-Collar Crimes: An Institutional Work Perspective.Abhijeet K. Vadera & Ruth V. Aguilera - 2015 - Journal of Business Ethics 128 (1):21-38.
White-collar crimes are illegal and unethical actions by agents of an organization. In this paper, we address two related research questions concerning white-collar crime—how did the language of white-collar crime evolve? And how did this language co-evolve with the investigation of white-collar crime? Building on research on institutional work, we find that key institutional actors such as the Presidential Office are likely to use frames and adopt a particular language in order to legitimize institutional practices . Conversely, less powerful actors (...)

African Philosophies of Education and Their Relevance to School Leadership in Africa: A Guide for Educational Systems and School LeadersFrederick Ebot Ashu, Moses Seemndze Lavngwa & Michel Auguste Tchoumbou Ngantchop - 2023 - Open Journal of Philosophy 13 (1):32-47.
Over the past few decades, significant research efforts have been devoted to establishing a relationship between African Philosophies of Education (APE) and School Leadership (SL). Such efforts have revealed how important African Union Philosophies of Education (AUPE) have been, or could be, in shaping School Leadership (SL) policies and practices. To achieve the above, this paper reviews contemporary literature on African Indigenous Education (AIE) and school leadership (SL) research. A descriptive and analytical interpretive approach is used to understand the methodological (...)

  11. The Dark Side of Authority: Antecedents, Mechanisms, and Outcomes of Organizational Corruption.Ruth V. Aguilera & Abhijeet K. Vadera - 2008 - Journal of Business Ethics 77 (4):431-449.
Corruption poisons corporations in America and around the world, and has devastating consequences for the entire social fabric. In this article, we focus on organizational corruption, described as the abuse of authority for personal benefit, and draw on Weber’s three ideal-types of legitimate authority to develop a theoretical model to better understand the antecedents of different types of organizational corruption. Specifically, we examine the types of business misconduct that organizational leaders are likely to engage in, contingent on their legitimate authority, (...)

Distributional Models of Category Concepts Based on Names of Category Members.Matthijs Westera, Abhijeet Gupta, Gemma Boleda & Sebastian Padó - 2021 - Cognitive Science 45 (9):e13029.
Cognitive scientists have long used distributional semantic representations of categories. The predominant approach uses distributional representations of category‐denoting nouns, such as “city” for the category city. We propose a novel scheme that represents categories as prototypes over representations of names of its members, such as “Barcelona,” “Mumbai,” and “Wuhan” for the category city. This name‐based representation empirically outperforms the noun‐based representation on two experiments (modeling human judgments of category relatedness and predicting category membership) with particular improvements for ambiguous nouns. We (...)

What is Good? A Study of Educational Insights in Nicomachean Ethics.Abhijeet Bardapurkar - 2022 - Journal of Human Values 28 (1):11-19.
Journal of Human Values, Volume 28, Issue 1, Page 11-19, January 2022. This work is a study of Aristotle’s Nicomachean Ethics to characterize the good: the good that features in education and good life. Nicomachean Ethics teaches us that human good is neither in thought/theory, nor in action/practice alone, it is neither an exclusively individual prerogative, nor an outright social preserve. And, human good is impossible without education. The practice of education can neither be isolated nor conceptualized apart from the (...)

Between Animal and Human: The Evolving “Mouse” in Successive Versions of Fifteen Strings of Cash.Xinzhu Li - 2019 - Cultura 16 (2):151-164.
This paper focuses on the change of the image of “mouse” which was transformed from the legend of Fifteen Strings of Cash to the other versions. The legend of Fifteen Strings of Cash, written by Zhu Suchen, was a story of the vindication of defendants in a court case and formed the basis for a series adaptations. The legend of Fifteen Strings of Cash provided a frame of imagination about the image of a “mouse”. Meanwhile, the adaptation of the legend (...)
