The Minnesota Starvation Experiment and Force Feeding of Prisoners—Relying on Unethical Research to Justify the Unjustifiable.Zohar Lederman & Teck Chuan Voo - 2021 - Journal of Bioethical Inquiry 18 (3):407-416.
This article poses a response to one argument supporting the force feeding of political prisoners. This argument assumes that prisoners have moral autonomy and thus cannot be force fed in the early stages of their hunger strike. However, as their fasting progresses, their cognitive competence declines, and they are no longer autonomous. Since they are no longer autonomous, force feeding becomes justified. This article questions the recurrent citation of a paper in empirical support of the claim that hunger strike causes (...)

Minnesota News Council: Principles, Precedent, and Moral Authority.Jack Breslin & Erik Forde Ugland - 2000 - Journal of Mass Media Ethics 15 (4):232-247.
This study addresses the Minnesota News Council's moral authority-that is, its ability to serve as a referent for the ethical or moral choices of others-and how its authority might be affected by perceptions of its legitimacy. After analyzing all of the Council's 125 written determinations, we argue that the Council's legitimacy and authority could be enlarged by clearer statements of ethical principles, explicit expressions of standards of conduct, and more consistent references to past determinations.

Minnesota Court Upholds Statute on Unlicensed Medical Practice.T. B. H. - 1996 - Journal of Law, Medicine and Ethics 24 (1):75-76.
The Court of Appeals of Minnesota, in State v. Saunders ), held that the statutory offense of practicing medicine without a license was not unconstitutionally vague as applied to a claim involving a farmer who offered a home remedy to cure cancer. The court held that, although Minnesota Statute § 147.081 subd. 3 contains general language and undefined terms, the statute contains sufficient particularity to show ordinary persons what conduct is prohibited, and thereby passes the void-for-vagueness test. The (...)

This third volume of the Minnesota series differs from the first two in its greater emphasis on the methodology of the physical sciences. Most of the interest of these earlier volumes was directed to an analysis of the concepts of psychology, psycho-analysis, and the philosophy of mind. The concept of scientific explanation is here analyzed in successive papers by Feyerabend, Hempel, Scriven, and Brodbeck; and the problem of the status of theoretical entities in science is treated by Maxwell and (...)

Here in more than a hundred photographs is portrayed Liebling's Minnesota. During two decades marked by social, political and cultural change, Liebling travelled the state and found his largest subject -- the depiction and interpretation of commonplace human experience. The images range from the grain elevators and skid row of Minneapolis to the slaughterhouses in South St. Paul and the poor, working-class streets of St. Paul's West Side; from the Iron Range and the Red Lake Indian reservation in the (...)
