El trabajo reexamina la obra inicial de Ortega y Gasset, Meditaciones del Quijote, considerada habitualmente como primera exposición de su filosofía, al tiempo que aparece como un estudio inacabado de la figura y obra de Cervantes. Aquí se subraya la importancia de su estudio sobre la novela, estudio que presenta interesantes similitudes con la Teoría de la Novela de G. Lukacs. Además, se destaca el papel de ¿discurso del método¿ que este estudio orteguiano parece tener respecto de su obra, al (...) ser la novela un ¿método¿ para el conocimiento de la vida humana. El trabajo examina los primeros juicios conocidos de Ortega sobre Cervantes y el Quijote, contenidos en diversas cartas de su epistolario con Unamuno y Navarro Ledesma, así como un artículo inédito que data de sus años de estancia en Alemania. Atribuye a Cervantes una teoría de la "simpatía", que construye el mundo desde la imaginación. Tal doctrina parece guardar estrecha relación con otras ideas de J.F. Herbart, filósofo y educador alemán cuyas ideas expuso con profundidad Ortega en 1914.

What merit should we find in Heliodoros' novel? Towards its end Hydaspes, agonizing over whether to save Charikleia from human sacrifice, sees before him an internal audience stirred by πθη equal to his and ‘weeping through pleasure and pity at Fortune's stage-management’ . This is a popular audience, a demos, evincing a popular reaction, but one which Heliodoros anticipated and doubtless welcomed. Their reaction is characterized by simple, direct emotions and some limited awareness of the larger processes that (...) have been going on in this novel. For them this is a world of τχη and amazement. Does the novel invite any deeper critical reaction than this? (shrink)

Amongst all the works within the genre, the novel _Aethiopica_ stands out for its composition techniques. In fact, the author Heliodorus shows the ability of both innovate and astonish readers, by creating scenes and characters, as well as distinguished and completely original situations. Taking the verb μιαίνω as a red string, since it is recurrently used in Heliodorus’ work and also summarizes the idea of miscegenation, some pieces of the romance in which the idea of hybridity, opposition of contraries or, (...) still, the overlapping of elements are highlighted and used in the present study. The results show that miscegenation, besides being a sign of Helidorus’ style, is a technique that gives rise to questioning about social, geographical and cultural conventions of that time. This paper argues that research in the primary sources must precede the investigation of Byzantine philosophy. Two points are to be considered, on the one hand, the gathering of texts, and, on the other hand, the study of texts in relation to their sources. Thus the external evidence as well as the internal evidence of texts should be examined. In this double regard, the manuscripts containing Aristotle’s Nicomachean Ethics are considered. Their authors are Michael of Ephesos, Eustratios of Nicaea, “Anonymus”, (...) Heliodoros of Prussa, Georgios Pachymeres, Michael Psellos, John Italos, Nikephoros Blemmydes, George Gemistos Plethon. The Lycian elite were heavily ethnos-oriented in their political activities and marriage policy. Social relations with members of the elite in other provinces were seldom established. The two siblings Claudia Iasonis and Tib. Claudius Agrippinus of Patara are an exception in this respect. Agrippinus acted as benefactor beyond the borders of his province and received honours by the koinon of Asia. His sister Claudia Iasonis married a man from Asia and attained the post of Asiarch. Social contact with the provincial (...) elite of Asia appears to have been established via the Pergamenian Iulius Quadratus, legate of Lycia-Pamphylia in ca. 90-92 A. D. About two decades later Claudia Iasonis seems to have persuaded the Pergamenian magnate to support Heliodoros of Lydai in obtaining the Roman citizenship. An honorary inscription from the agora of Lydai published here in first edition is so far the only testament to this woman’s activities. (shrink)
