A Challenge To The View Of Sexual Freedom In Tang Dynasty

Abstract

Tang is not the existence of an open society, from marriage, divorce to remarry, Chinese is still traditional, conservative. For extra-marital sex, Chinese is hated, and to be severely condemned and sanctions. The so-called sexual liberation Tang Dynasty, between husband and wife with taboos and so on, just can not stand. The reason why scholars have come to the conclusion is open to the Tang Dynasty, Tang Dynasty, with their exaggerated the Hu-oriented, they believe that in northern China, told the Chinese minority of Western ideas and behavior patterns had a significant impact; also research methods and their biased and inappropriate for some, its baseless creations, sweeping, selective use of historical data, random fragmentation and interpretation of historical data and other improper practices, so that their study deviations occur. It is hard to say there was a sexual freedom in Tang dynasty since the Tang people were conservative and traditional in marriage, divorce and remarriage. The extramarital sexual intercourse had been abhorred and forbidden. There are several reasons for some scholars to say there was a sexual freedom in Tang dynasty: Firstly, they exaggerated the northern barbarians influence to the thoughts and actions of the people in Tang period. Secondly, they took partial materials and made a wrong conclusion
