The Modern Forms of Confucian Philosophy and the Potential Studies: With Liu, Shu-xien and Tu, Wei-Ming as Examples

Abstract

Today, the Confucian philosophy of facing the challenges of contemporary culture, ethical foundation for the challenges and moral challenge, which has been from the traditional theory of values ​​and meaning, and continue to turn a new pattern emerged, with the direct face of contemporary modernity, I communicate with the public nature of human life-world properties. This paper is anchored, and then to two iconic figures of contemporary neo-Confucianism: Liu Shu and Tu Wei-ming, for example, on the one hand confirmed the Confucian philosophy is philosophy of life, culture, the combination of philosophy and moral philosophy, and global concern from the Liu Shu-xian ethics for, elucidation of the new humanism of Confucian ethics content; the other hand, places the Confucian philosophy of modernity for the observation of the dimensions, the interpretation of Confucianism, Tu Wei-ming as the "science of experience" 'and continued with its "A new global social ethics" as the architecture, modern Confucianism think a lot of possibilities, in order to understand the development of contemporary Confucian scholars intrinsic meaning of the new work is actually never Shaoxie. Challenged by contemporary humanism, ethics and morality, Confucian philosophy has come up with new forms evolving from traditional values ​​and meanings, in order to address the living world with its modernity, public ness, and character of communication. Thereupon, this paper is to demonstrate that Confucian philosophy combines bioethics, cultural ethics and moral philosophy, with reference to two Confucians, Liu Shu-hsien and Tu Wei-ming. We will also explicate the neo-humanistic immanence of Confucian ethics from the perspective of global ethics. On the other hand, while Du Wei-ming interprets Confucianism as a "doctrine of experience" and uses the framework of "a new type of global social ethics," we will observe in terms of the modernity of Confucian philosophy and contemplate various possibilities of the modernization of Confucianism, so as to understand how contemporary scholars exploit the new content and meanings of Confucianism
