Abstract

The book is published in the International Library of Philosophy and Scientific Method. It proceeds under the assumption that the Tractatus and the later works of Wittgenstein are mutually illuminating. The general program is to present the Tractarian picture theory, to explain why it was abandoned and a new theory of language adopted, and to explicate the new theory of use. Conceptually the book is arranged around the problem of intentionality. Bogen believes that Wittgenstein’s chief concern was with the problem of false belief.
