Abstract

This dissertation is a section-by-section commentary to Nietzsche's Also sprach Zarathustra. An Introductory Essay provides the background information necessary for an initial appreciation of Nietzsche and Zarathustra. The main body of the dissertation is a section-by-section commentary to Nietzsche's text. Prefatory Remarks precede the commentaries to each Part, providing necessary information for a complete understanding of their unique features. Footnotes to the main body refer the reader to suggested readings or explain a comment in greater detail. Appendices provide basic information concerning the structure of Zarathustra, sources for further reading and remarks on other Zarathustra commentaries. Attempting to explain the philosophical principles behind each of Nietzsche's major images, this dissertation is perhaps the only recent section-by-section commentary to Zarathustra in the English language
