Dewey's Experiences in China and Implications for Global Democracy

Abstract

This paper to explore the American philosopher John Dewey • in the years between 1919 to 1921 visit to China to participate as the main experience of school thinking, and then think about Dewey's experience in China to the global democratic inspiration. This paper is divided into three parts: first, Dewey and China's "edge" and "circle", Dewey described how he and the May Fourth China has no intention of encounter and various coincidence, harmony into the lives of their own experience, that is, of John Dewey in China has experienced why, In order to learn What, he thought of the future is What? Second, Dewey's "China problem" to explore, how to hold regardless of the pragmatism of Dewey described continuously explore mental attempt to angle from the Chinese people's understanding of China's Heart network qualification process. Third, Dewey's Concept Chinese experience the agitation of its democratic management, democratic management of the Concept view Dewey's experience and interpretation, has experienced what changes, and in contact with their social and cultural experience in China what connected. Conclusion of the section, I will explore Dewey's experience in China, the current implementation of the global democratic inspiration. The paper discusses John Dewey's two-year trip to China from 1919 to 1920, focusing particularly on what he thought and learned during the trip and what implications we can draw from his experiences regarding the promotion of global democracy. The paper is divided into three sections : first, what happened to Dewey in China, what he learned, and how he transformed these experiences into meaningful learning events; second, how Dewey attempted to study the China problem via the pragmatic sense of continuous experimentation and inquiry; third, how Dewey's experiences in China influenced his matured thinking about democracy. In conclusion, the paper delineates some implications for how we should promote and deepen democracy in today's globalizing world
