Abstract

Is it possible to think the Paris Commune other than as a premature revolution or as having saved the Republic in France? If the event did not stem from any historical necessity, what is the meaning of the enigma of this unexpected affirmation of a political principle, under the banner of a universal Republic, which sees the nameless people constituting themselves as subjects of emancipation in the existence in act of a force of equality and in the unprecedented experience of a democracy against the state?
