Abstract

In scientific language a distinction can be made between 'pedagogical' metaphors and 'theory constitutive' metaphors. pedagogical metaphors are considered to encourage memorability of information and to generate a better, more insightful and personal understanding. they play a role in the teaching or in the explanation of theories that can already be formulated completely-or almost completely-in a nonmetaphorical way. they normally do not bring about any new theoretical views in the science.
